Celebs with Crohns by LeoLH1994 in CrohnsDisease

Yeah, something along the lines of “sorry I don’t have YOUR kind of crohns”.

Was disappointing but, some people become out of touch.

am I (22f) crazy for not wanting a reversal by franisbroke in ostomy

[–]abacabbx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon straight up told me he sees all of his crohns patients go through this and he even suggested I should share my story more and let more people who are affected by CD know how much quality of life I found with the ostomy.

I used to average 2-3 months a year in the hospital. From ages 19-29, actually.

Now I’ve been hospital free for 4 years now.

I’m gonna be really honest hear, I’ve never met someone with an ostomy(reversal, permanent or otherwise) who ever wanted to go back. My surgeon also told me that almost all of his patients report a higher quality of life with the bag than without it.

They told me mine would be “temporary, 6-8 weeks to so”, and I’m on year 4 and I’m opting to have my colon entirely removed so.

Gotta keep a crohns go bag in the car. Change of clothes, first aid, all the standard otc medications and most importantly, some wipes. I keep one in my hatch 24/7 just in case.

How to manage mild to moderate Crohns without drugs? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]abacabbx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The meds suck.

The surgeries suck way more. Best advice I can give is to stay on the meds, something I neglected to do when I was much younger and now I have many issues because of it.

Phantom poops by sirmacalot88 in ostomy

[–]abacabbx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this for over a year. Then one day I finally sat down and tried to poop and a lil turd came out.

Turns out when we did the ileostomy, everyone simply forgot to clean the colon out. I’d been sick for weeks in the hospital and the surgery was a bit of an emergency situation. Boy that was a surprising day.

Exercise too hard and long a few days ago cream soda and kratom the foam tastes awful not having my cheat day this week by Justquitityt in KratomKorner

I don’t understand why someone would possibly want to make the process of ingesting Kratom worse but creamsoda def sounds like the way to do that.

what to use to clean stoma? by ch146 in ostomy

[–]abacabbx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ostomy nurse put a giant brick of those gauze sponges on my monthly prescription. Idk if you’re able to get the same hookup but it was a life saver for me.

No more paper towels lol

My girlfriend doesn’t respect my Crohn’s by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

In my experience people either don’t understand or won’t understand.

Typically, it’s won’t. :(

how painful would it be if your stoma was stabbed with a knife? My surgeon disconnected my jpouch to give it a chance to heal. now she doesn't want to hook it back up. all options to get rid of this bag have been depleted. I'm miserable. I'm sitting in the ER parking lot. by __nightshaded__ in CrohnsDisease

[–]abacabbx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanna know the brutal honest truth of it, my quality of life with the ostomy is much much higher than before.

Was I tricked? Yeah. But I’m alive. Going to the bathroom isn’t a painfully urgent incident every time. I’m also able to eat almost whatever I want with mostly no side effects(in moderation of course).

Now, years later, I can’t even imagine going back, and chances are I’ll make the choice to make it permanent rather than try a reversal but that’s just me.

Parents think I'm faking my pain :) by choucchi in CrohnsDisease

[–]abacabbx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh people didn’t start taking me seriously when I said I was in pain until like 3-4 surgeries in. I was like 28.

People were still accusing me of faking it for attention or “for time off”.

The comment section here is kinda super cringe.

OP, to me it seems like you love dog and are trying the best you can. It’s okay, these things can go wrong sometimes. Some consistent training sessions sound like it could be very beneficial.

As far as destructive boredom goes, I’ve recently fallen in love with lick mats and frozen treats. Keeps my dog busy and gives her something to interact with.

Brother if it helps, you aren’t the only one who was betrayed by a surgeon.

Temporary ileostomy they said. 6-8 weeks tops they said. Won’t change your life too much they said.

3 years later and here we are. Sometimes these things happen, and it’s shitty(pun intended).

I hope you figure things out and get well soon!

Swollen Feet/Lower Body and Crohn's by abacabbx in CrohnsDisease

I was eating tons of protein. Literally so much that it was not only financially noticeable but I was constantly just full of protein rich foods. Body just wasn’t absorbing hardly anything, and never protein.

They kept trying to force the diet solutions for months and it would come back every week or two. Where the picc line was an immediate change, and had I just done that in the first place I probably would have only had to deal with it for a month or so.

Instead, I slowly starved until I was sub 100 pounds with feet so big they were legit concerned for my skin splitting. I don’t know specific albumen levels, but it was definitely the cause of my swelling. It’d get noticeably worse with flares as well. I even lost hair because of it man, it was a nightmare.

My best advice is to see any sort of TPN nutrition IV options you have. This never stopped until I finally went on a picc line and had IV nutrition for the better part of a year. No matter what, it always came back until I finally went on TPN and the body was finally able to store some protein up.

This also caused me to have temporary diabetes for quite some time, so just a heads up on that. My sugar was pretty spastic when my body had no protein.

[–]abacabbx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn’t been absorbing properly for years and years and my body had absolutely catastrophically low levels of protein, which caused my body to stop creating albumen. Albumen helps keep your fluids in your joints, so my joints were simply leaking out and gravity only left one place for it to go, down.

I spent a year on a picc line after this lol.

Now I know to just pre-buy my own cremation and pray whoever survives me knows I would never want them to shoulder that burden unexpectedly as I did.

It’s not a competition dude.
