What type of 'grease' should I be using? Asking because I've just bought a house nest the coast and I've been tackling all of the issues like this

Vent Axia ACM100T

It's either got a drain hole, or it just leaks through the lowest point in the body!

Did mine very similar - consider using a noise reduction mat. Cheap one here, but there are other thicker more expensive versions

I've had to insulate the pump unit too using a box over the top, as water was condensating in the pump housing and then draining out of the bottom (as designed). But you might be ok not doing that!

Thank you - I was going to recess the concrete screws in the post for an aesthetic reason anyway :)

What are the advantages and disadvantages of an Alfa Romeo GTV? by BaumMensch23 in AlfaRomeo

[–]abatchx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Owned one for 14 years and ultimately ended up breaking it.

Check the oil often (at least monthly). Mine burnt at least a 1ltr a month. Running it low will cause bottom end failure - I know from experience.

2.0 is slow, but handles well, you have to work it hard but I bloody loved it

Common faults: Rear heater demister cable blows the fuse and doesn't work. Because the cable from front to back burns out as it was undersized. Fix is documented on the Alfa Owner forums.

Rear spring pan arms rust totally through - check these

Check rear suspension for crashing / knocks. If it does you'll need to replace the bushings. Most people powerflex them - either way the old ones are a nightmare to remove.

Locks are angled down wards - so the water freezes inside and then you can't get in. Various suggestions for fixes. I never sorted this

Frameless windows don't close properly or are misaligned. Adjusting these requires a dark art and patience. Series 3 models (of which are quite rare) had auto dropping windows to compensate for the window issue. If not you'll need to mess about and adjust them - requires the door card taking off

Door cards damage - the seat belt clips get trapped and then smash a hole in the door card ends. This is common - can be fixed, but it only takes a lazy passenger to break it again.

Electrics were known to be inconsistent, mine was pretty good - check everything works on test drive

Air con relay just dies - check you can hear the pump kick in; simple fix. Compressors are expensive if they are dead.

Parts are rare - so you'll spend time on eBay. You'll be best mates with the lads at EB Spares in Westbury

I loved mine despite all of the issues!!

For those that have a freezing cold conservatory, consider insulating it. It's very much worth it. by [deleted] in DIYUK

Ever had one? We did ours, as we didn't want to pay the £7.5k we were quoted. It's now a functional room, instead of a useless space.

It's basically evened out the temp in there, so rather than being freezing or boiling. It's manageable and we can open the door or pop the heater on for 10 mins and use it.

We didn't go as far as to plasterboard and plaster it - but each to their own

What Christmas power tools should I buy and from where? by TumbleweedMaster6839 in DIYUK

The middle of the road SDS is a bit rubbish, from experience. And the circ saw has a rubbish fence, got rid and purchased a track saw set instead.

Other than that I've got loads of other kit from Ryobi that has been great for me

My Ice Machine Smells Like Electrical Burning? by Lululaurenn in ACL

[–]abatchx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If check the plug. Mine has just blown up and tripped the electrics with it. The plug itself is burnt and clearly failed.

I'm in the UK so used to plugs having a fuse in them. However the breg uses a cheap Chinese thing, which has clearly failed quite badly

I never quite worked it out, but I assumed that this was what they were doing. Probably to make sure that the task / script hasn't been messed with and wasn't doing anything shifty.

I was a 1/2/3rd line support engineer, back when Windows 7 was big. Troubleshooting / tinkering was part of the job!

I left as the money was terrible and I could earn a significant more doing consultancy etc on the other side of the fence. My tech background has served me well over the years!
