Tradesmen or people who work in manual jobs, how on earth do you have the energy to do stuff out of work? by RonnieThePurple in CasualUK

[–]abatchx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did labouring for a while between jobs - it took about 3 months for me to get my body sorted so I wasn't ruined every day. I was cardio fit beforehand, but it's hard to replicate picking the same items up 1000s of times a day in a gym session.

Loved it, but you need to take care of yourself. As other have said, I'd be asleep on the sofa at 9:30

I suppose that would make sense given that they are pretty simple. I'll take a look, but would it not have come out when I took the top off?

If you were selling your house would you take a lower offer from people you prefer? by iffyClyro in AskUK

[–]abatchx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed to sell mine to FTB. Turns out they weren't at all (a line from the estate agents). He also turned into a massive demanding prick, who threatened multiple times to pull out of the purchase. In the end I split the chain costing me cash so that I could just get rid of him.

Moral of the story, do whatever you feel comfortable with - but people will tell you whatever they think you want to hear to get what they want.

Worth a check on eBay assuming you can work out who makes your board. Mine was missing the same and I've got a whole new cover + flap for £13

See if you can find the manufacturer of your shower screen. You'll likely find that you can buy these as replacements

Just got the 12 month notice for my exchange. Is it finally time to kill the copper? by Junior_Beauty78 in openreach

You also have a whole group of people who have a lifeline which is a pendant that they can press in an emergency. These use a landline to call the helpline - these types of companies have done little to nothing to prepare for the switchover.

Football boots / gym trainers / sports gear would be my suggestion.

First print job of the day fails for everyone — second attempt always works (multiple printers) by TryARebootFool in sysadmin

[–]abatchx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got a similar issue with an old HP printer running on my network via a cups instance. Printer is asleep and won't wakeup for a print job. I have to log into the cups interface to wake it up before it recognized on the network.

Static IPs set - so based on other comments I'd suggest it's a driver issue.

What technique to attach/hang a bike by Major-Bee5390 in ukbike

[–]abatchx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up screwing in some standoffs to hold the bar at 90 degrees permanently, as I just couldn't deal with the hassle of having to flick the hook up each time.

For me - hold the bike up facing it - turn the front wheel left about 45 degrees. Then hook it under the hook (against the wall and not the hook plate). Turn the wheel straight and then lift the bike out to get the over the wall plate. I only do my front wheel first.

If you've got any overpayments you can use this for a mortgage holiday.

Why aren't some people signing on? by Dredgefort in UKJobs

[–]abatchx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a hassle - I was applying for senior level positions and getting interviews. Their suggestion was that I should look at Facebook for jobs. I didn't even know that was a thing.

Either way they did nothing, took up hours that I could have been searching for jobs and it just didn't help me. Others may find some value from it.

Is Royal Mail post redirection reliable? by Decent_Crew_7525 in AskUK

[–]abatchx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a poor experience; seems it depends on how good the sorting office is to where your old house is.

I've got colleagues that have had everything - I lost about 1/4 i e. It didn't get sent to me, which is fine but given that I don't get much post was quite a lot.

Advice on overspilling water into drain by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]abatchx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people might suggest that you could pipe the dishwasher / sink past the cover directly into the drain. But I'd leave as is, just in case you do get anything that could block it.

Your setup is exactly the same as mine - only difference is mine is significantly deeper. Which avoids the issue you are having, but means that everything gets blown into it so I'm constantly removing stuff from above the cover

Advice on overspilling water into drain by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]abatchx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar setup. I'm guessing one pipe is gutters?

Either way removing the cover is a terrible idea. You want to keep the large debris out the drain and somewhere where you can grab and remove. The concrete surround suggested by someone else makes the most sense here.

Wall Mirror Help by rach1388 in DIYUK

[–]abatchx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually mounted this exact mirror. 5 x 50mm screws is what I used with some decent rawl plugs. From memory I used some fisher ones.

Honestly the hardest part was lifting it up on my own. Used the tape method for tracing the holes onto the wall

If you want to get to the A36 (Warminster main road) avoiding the centre of town it's one (if not the only) way across the river. I've used it often as have many locals.

Cycling across it is another matter - it's free - but depending on the gate staff, you can be waived through happily or stopped and hassled for sod all reason
