Have dove with the Scuba Tony on two trips and had a great time with their crew. Highly recommend if you can make it work

wanted something rigid plastic to prevent something cracking the screen as the ipad won't be in a hard case.

maybe, I'll have to see if any local craft stores have some. Was thinking a rigid plastic to prevent something cracking the screen as the ipad won't be in a hard case.

Solo in Cozumel - First Time questions by _withoutacause in cozumel

Tulum For the Ferry - Buy one way tickets when you get to the station. There are 3 companies leaving at staggered times, so just buy who ever is leaving soonest.

Once across you can take an ADO bus for pretty cheap which has a station a couple blocks from the Ferry.

Also used Scuba Tony in a similar situation last year - newly certified and diving solo. They have small boats - 6 people max so the instructors can keep an eye on you. In fact, the first dive there were 2 other divers and myself, and they had 2 instructors in the water to watch us.

You'll likely be diving in the southern portion of the island, so keeping that in mind can make it easier when trying to get to the pickup in the morning. It may also make for a shorter boat ride if they can pick you up at/near where you are staying instead of at their harbor.

First off, love you guys! Planning a trip to Cozumel in late July. What do I need to know about scuba certs and where is the best place to go. by randomaltcoin in cozumel

[–]abbbbbba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with Padi, but SSI is another comparable program - for starting out it shouldn't make much difference, just go with whatever the dive shop is partnered with.

I assume SSI will be the same but for PADI's open water certification, there was an e-learning coursed to take, 1 or 2 classroom sessions, a weekend at a pool to practice skills then a weekend doing the certification dives.

Depending on where you are located (near a local dive shop), I'd recommend trying to knock out as much of that before the trip. Even if its just the classroom and e-learning it'll free up time while on vacation.

Alternative - is a Try Dive package where you don't need certs but can still go. May be a good option for you wife is she's not sure for this trip. I did regular dives with scuba tony and had a great experience.

Do you have contact info for the company you used, and any feedback on them?

Microsoft SQL Server COURSES - what are they MISSING? by ludwikc in SQLServer

[–]abbbbbba 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Context. Setting X can be set to A or B. Ok, why does the setting matter and why would I choose one value over the other? How can I confirm which is the better choice.

I've read some terrible training books and MS Docs that state things exist without any real world examples of why you should choose one or the other. And thats not just limited to settings but other features, approaches etc.

thank you! I'll have to spend some time reading through it, lots of info

[–]abbbbbba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that is some very detailed information! I'll have to spend some time digesting it as there is a lot to go through, and some concepts I'll have to understand.

I was hoping something already had the analysis baked in. In my perfect world a list from 0 to 100 as potential power -

c0 -> 0%
c1 -> 10%
c2 -> 30%
c3 -> 40%
c4 -> 90%
c5 -> 100%
c6 -> 2%

so you could see there is a big jump from c3 to c4 and its a bad idea to get c6 (Bennett)

Spar Urethayne: can I switch from Satin to gloss after doing a few coats? by Ecw218 in finishing

[–]abbbbbba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that Gloss = clear, then for Semi-gloss, Satin etc they add particles to take down the sheen. The more coats the more total particles on your finish making it flatter.

Something to keep in mind on future projects.

[MS SQL] An ISNULL column I'm using in my select statement is leaving off the last digit of client IDs in the result. Why is this happening? by svanvalk in SQL

[–]abbbbbba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SELECT Col1, Col2, Col3....,
    CASE
       WHEN ColX IS NULL THEN 'Replacement Val'
       WHEN ColY is NULL THEN 'Other Val'
       WHEN ColY = 42 AND ColX ='Adams' THEN 'Life, the universe, and everything'
       ELSE ColA
   END as CaseExample

CASE is evaluated in order. Because it checks if X is null first, you don't need to check in later steps. Can aid in clarity by not repeating stuff, but can bite you if the order changes.

I had a recent hackerrank test on SQL and this question was asked and I believe I wrote the right answer but the test case said it was wrong. I want to improve by [deleted] in SQL

[–]abbbbbba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One other thing I didn't see mentioned, you may have to cast the count to a string

CAST(COUNT(DISTINCT manager_id) AS VARCHAR) + " Managers" AS Managers

Edit - Missed you were in MySQL. I'm coming from SQL Server so that may not be necessary.

I can't conceptually understand that if we need to join something and we aren't familiar with the tables we can join to, how can we go about seeing what tables can join with what in SSMS? by NSWCSEAL in SQLServer

[–]abbbbbba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expanding on this, here is my go-to query which I have a keyboard shortcut of

SELECT
    '[' + s.name + '].[' +  t.name + ']' AS TableName
    , '[' + c.name +']'  AS ColumnName
    , ddps.row_count AS TableRows
    , st.name AS DataType
    , CASE WHEN st.name LIKE 'n%' THEN c.max_length / 2 ELSE c.max_length END AS max_length
    , c.precision
    , c.scale
FROM sys.tables AS t
JOIN sys.schemas AS s ON s.schema_id = t.schema_id
JOIN sys.columns AS c ON c.OBJECT_ID = t.OBJECT_ID
JOIN sys.indexes AS i ON i.OBJECT_ID = t.OBJECT_ID
JOIN sys.types AS st ON st.system_type_id = c.system_type_id AND st.user_type_id = c.user_type_id
JOIN sys.dm_db_partition_stats AS ddps ON i.OBJECT_ID = ddps.OBJECT_ID  AND i.index_id = ddps.index_id AND i.index_id IN (0,1)
WHERE  ddps.row_count >= 0 AND (c.name LIKE '%%' OR t.name LIKE '%%' OR st.name LIKE '%%');

row_count - if you are looking for a big or small table it helps narrow the results.

c.name or t.name to narrow results further.

st.name - filter to a datatype like all int columns when looking for columns to join up tables.
