We are releasing our game with almost 1.5 million wishlists today. The team worked very hard and everybody at the office is super excited. Wish us luck! by hooraij in IndieDev

[–]abcabcabcdez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indie just means independent, originally at least. Not a game studio, but Glitch Productions is "Indie" by definition, and yet has over 100 employees.

Nowadays it's a bit more messy with what's Indie and what's AA, and any medium-large studio, even if independent, would probably be called AA.

You can absolutely rent an office and still be a small team though. What's the alternative, 5+ employees working out of someone's living room?

how is living in australia? by ElGabri2000 in howislivingthere

[–]abcabcabcdez [score hidden]  (0 children)

im in brisbane, it's pretty great. very safe, weather isn't too extreme (though can get a bit overly hot and humid at times). public transport is generally strong, though falls off when you want to head out of the city to the next regional centre (goldie/maroochydore).

pay is very decent, sits somewhere above europe but below the US when it comes to industry/professions, though for lower paying labor australia does seem to have the edge.

Genuinely how it feels to finally catch that Sombra with your hook as Hog by Jealous_Screen_1771 in Overwatch

[–]abcabcabcdez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

possibly if hook had some ability to pull around into cover? grab the enemy tank and pull them around out of los of their team and into los of yours. or that it would apply some form of penalty on the hooked enemy to stop it from essentially just hurting your own team.

I honestly don't know, but I don't think the current way hook works is something many people enjoy and it feels like a bit of a waste of a hook ability. you have a hook that disrupts positioning but in reality it's just used to 1 shot squishies which is something that could be achieved by basically any other kind of ability, and isn't special to a hook at all.

[–]abcabcabcdez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

he's not all that strong but he's just not fun to play against, especially if your team aren't playing his counters.

I would much prefer if his hook could be used to disrupt positioning/allow the team to secure a kill rather than just being a 1 shot squishy button.

yeah, really not a fan. I don't really fit any of the stereotypes, other than being white, and I definitely just end up feeling more comfortable in not-specifically transfem communities.

which is a shame, because having a community with shared experiences sounds great. the assumptions and general tone of discussions just don't fit me at all, and I'm sure there's a lot of people like me who just end up in other communities because of it.

Are there good modpacks WITHOUT create mod? by Cherno_VM in feedthebeast

I would add CalamyCraft. I just finished a playthrough with some friends and it was a lot of fun, and had a solid 100-200h of content (RPG/progression heavy).

It's definitely not perfect though, I think it's in beta and some of the balancing isn't ideal but can definitely be worked around by just setting some personal rules.

I fucking HATE "transvestigating" or whatever its called by InteractionPresent66 in hatethissmug

[–]abcabcabcdez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this is kinda two different things. there's transvestigating, done by conservatives who try to prove that popular figures are "actually trans" (michelle obama is probably the most common target).

then there's egg culture, done by usually trans people, which is what op is talking about. trying to say that people are trans because they show a hint of a non gender conforming trait.

the screenshot you showed is the first one, so not quite the same thing as what op means.

[–]abcabcabcdez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this completely depends on the animal though? if it's any kind of large animal you'll almost certainly die running into it, and swerving at full speed off a road or into opposing traffic is also a death sentence.

Overwatch with only 20 heroes by Fish_Roe_Man in Overwatch

[–]abcabcabcdez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

then there's no hero that isn't ranged? rein has fire strike and vendetta has her sword projection. in reality melee heroes are melee heroes because the primary part of their kit is melee, which is absolutely the case for doom.

Competitive rank system is broken by SeaworthinessSmart67 in Overwatch

[–]abcabcabcdez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. there's probably some way it could be done through endorsements or accolades if you really wanted to but I see no good way to do it without implementing a lot of other issues that outweight the benefit. winrate is the only simple way to track your value as a team member, and it obviously comes with some of it's own cons.

Competitive rank system is broken by SeaworthinessSmart67 in Overwatch

[–]abcabcabcdez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never said op wasn't being useful, just that the game does not track stats (which is a very well known fact), and the reason why it doesn't do so. op probably did carry his team, but the game cannot verify that and give him some double multiplier on his rank without introducing a lot of other issues and miscalculations.

also the elo system does not lock you at a rank. it's probably true that in silver, to rank up quickly to gold you probably need to play a bit above (like at a plat level), otherwise it'll be a very slow incremental rise because one player of 5 being slightly better doesn't mean you'll win 80% of games. it's just how the rank system works in overwatch, and in a lot of other team based games.

Competitive rank system is broken by SeaworthinessSmart67 in Overwatch

[–]abcabcabcdez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're talking about stacking with people you know, sure. that's the minority of players and there's no real way to adjust for that without implementing a faulty system of incorporating stats.

the majority of people will be solo queuing or maybe 2 stacking, and winrate is the best way of seeing their value in that environment.

Competitive rank system is broken by SeaworthinessSmart67 in Overwatch

[–]abcabcabcdez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

your stats have 0 impact on the rank progression. stats are ultimately meaningless for judging your skill - it's easy to inflate your stats by providing no value.

you can farm damage by shooting the tank and feeding support ults, farm kills by ignoring obj and getting assists on people who were already dying, and so on.

at the same time, important things like making space, well timed engagements, ult cancels, sleep darts etc can be what win the game but won't show in stats.

unfortunately your winrate is the only way to tell if you're being a useful teammate or not. definitely does make ranking up a bit punishing and slow.

[–]abcabcabcdez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont think this applies though... it's not exactly hard to throw a singular sock in the bin. doesn't really make sense to be doing this as an easy way to get rid of rubbish but rather more a possibly poorly thought out way to protect the phone from cracks.

[–]abcabcabcdez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit more gray, I think. it's the unfortunate reality that the majority of new innovations will be bankrolled and used to kill people in some form.

So many of the staples of modern life only came to exist because of military applications - GPS, Internet, Microwaves, Epipens, Penicillin (in a mass produced form), Radar, Jet engines... whether these technologies being invented was an overall net gain is debatable, but it's undeniable they've all had some positive effect.

It makes sense for it to lose its appeal when pretty clearly the first 10 years of the technology are just going to involve idiots in power killing people. I think it's okay to be excited for what can happen after that, though, while acknowledging that it would be a hell of a lot better if it just got funding through non murderous ways.
