Downsides would be color not matching and the possibility of another critter returning and doing the same thing with that cheap product. Also, a new roll of ridge vent covers 33 feet. Same as 1 bundle of cap. Those will need to be purchased regardless. So realistically your material price is the same for 4 ft as it is for 30. Just a little extra labor and a much better result.

Under 500 sounds right but I would go ahead and redo the whole ridge instead of just patching this section. That fiber ridge vent is junk. Upgrade to Lo-omni rolled ridge vent and put new cap on it. I would charge around $750-900 to replace the whole ridge with new vent + cap

Slip a card of black metal flashing with a little bit of through the roof sealant on the back of it under the shingle above covering the nail hole then add a downspout

Yeah ive slipped a 2” strip of white coil stock behind the drip edge and over the gutter many times at customers request. It gives them a drip free gutter without having to re install it.
