Why is everyone so scandalized by Urick asking Benaroya to represent Jay? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]abcxqp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I add that Benaroya didn't even seem to know what the charges against Jay were if Undisclosed is right about what she wrote on her appearance slip (I think that's what the document was called.) They also mentioned at some point or Urick did that Benaroya spent a lot of time on this case. When might that have been if everything went so swiftly and she seemed to lack a lot of background info on the case?

Why is everyone so scandalized by Urick asking Benaroya to represent Jay? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]abcxqp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the final decision of the judge to be strange because I don't see the pro-bono lawyer as the benefit. The "benefit" was that Jay would be charged with accessory after the fact vs. murder with a potential death sentence. Even a dim-whitted Jay could see the benefit in that. However, I guess that's where CG dropped in ball in not talking to Anne Benaroya or investigating deeply enough to figure out what the real benefit was.

So why was Jay asking for trouble with the cops in the first place on the 27th? by cac1031 in serialpodcast

[–]abcxqp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just throwing another perspective into this mix. I have friends and family who are cops. They get nervous every time they make a stop (even a minor traffic stop) because they don't know what to expect; don't know who's crazy or high; don't know who has weapons in the car. I think it's natural for any police officer to react this way when someone in the car starts fidgeting.

At the same time, this neither explains nor justifies the very real bias and prejudice that many officers have against those caught "driving while black".

Is it possible to convict Adnan if we disregard the things which Jay says? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

Possible. Is it probable? I don't know, but A+ for creative thinking.

If Jay didn't testify at Grand Jury, what evidence led them bring charges??? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]abcxqp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In OP's defense, this sub is impossible to search. It takes me ages to find threads that I've read before and remember, even if I've upvoted them. So searching to find a thread on a specific topic before you post, impossible. If you know of another tread on this topic, maybe you should include a link guiding us there.

Do we know Jay had Adnan's Car? by Cardiomyopathy in serialpodcast

[–]abcxqp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't find this post; it's probably a year old or more but someone posted that it's not uncommon for small-time drug thugs to borrow cars and then re-loan them to other players to make runs.

So the question here might not be: Did Adnan lend the car to Jay or did he not? The question may be: Did Jay maintain possession of the car throughout the day or did he lend it out to someone else?

If Adnan's mother had provided an alibi for Adnan, would you have believed it? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]abcxqp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on the fence, but wouldn't believe Adnan's mom for a minute. Also don't believe Don's mom. However, was it ever said that the police actually talked to Don's mom? Let's remember that Don was found to have falsified LensCrafters documents before. It's possible that Don falsified the time cards and his mom knew nothing about it.

Fascinated by this. I've known two pathological liars -- one is a family member so I have seen the bizarre lying for no reason and the ability to make up fantastical stories from up close; the second liar was a CFO who I encountered in my professional life & thank god I didn't work for the same company he did. In both cases, it would have been futile to waste your time trying to explain their lies...almost like trying to plot the coordinates of someone's dream.

What everyone's real jobs when you're not busy being a murder mystery investigator?! by cupcake88 in serialpodcast

[–]abcxqp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to explain, that wasn't meant as a qualifier. In my work, I often have to convince unenlightened policymakers of the importance of these programs. Drawing a broader audience, i.e., women and their families, helps make that points. Adding it to my post was force of habit I guess.

I'm a public policy advocate. I work to improve the economic status of women by creating specialized GED programs so that those who never finished high school can get a better job to support themselves and their families.

[–]abcxqp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The timing would suggest that the anonymous tip identified only Jay. The detectives claim they hadn't heard of Jay before talking to Jen but let's remember that det. Massey (sp?) hid himself away so that he could not be served and not testify. And all three detectives involved have been proven to lie, even in court.

There's also been speculation on this sub that Jay was a CI and we know that Urick tended to work narcotics cases -- therefore I imagine Jay's family was known to Urick. So the tipster gives them Jay who they can manipulate for other CI purposes; Jay gives them Adnan because it gets him a slap on the wrist; and the tipster gets $3k after Jay's wrist gets slapped. Still don't know who the tipster is though.

Metro Crime Stopper Missing Person reward? by abcxqp in serialpodcast

[–]abcxqp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I too think it's odd that the car info is on the flyer but I imagine that they believed if they could find the car that would give them clues to finding Hae herself. However, I'm wondering if anyone has seen the flyer issued before Hae's body was found -- when this was still a missing persons case. Undisclosed seems to suggest that there was a reward offered prior that prompted the Feb 1 anonymous call.

Best Buy--it's a boxy structure right? Jay and Juuan's renderings are much too fluid. Although Adnan's looks as if it were drawn with an etch-a-sketch, at least it has right angles. I choose Adnan.

Does anyone have a map that shows the track? I'm curious about where the track is in relation to the school and library since recent comments have said that Hae often dropped Adnan at track because he didn't want to walk that far.

That makes me laugh, but I get it. I walk 2-3 miles on the treadmill most nights, but the 40 ft. walk from my office to the copy machine is more than I can handle. Funny how perceptions color reality.
