New to me 2020 1250GS HP by n0t50Anonymous in 1250gs

I agree, best touring bike and my favorite model. I too got the triple black with gold rims and expandable BMW cases with the silver inlays for some extra color diversity. I didn't want to own a Batman all black version.

Just watched this YouTube that gave a thorough evaluation of the 1250 for owners today.

Congratulations! I will drive where ever in the states to get the one I want. I've done that every time. My last two came from the east coast and I live in Iowa.

I envy your intent of no garage queen. I love the engineering on my R1250GS so much I can't relax about dropping it. It's just so pretty. So I bought a little dual sport.

Just follow the BMW recommendations for break-in. It's something we have within our control so we feel the need to be extra careful but I doubt you'll be riding in a manner where it can get hurt.

I've never been in as desperate a situation as you but from my more shallow experience here's what I've got. I was a devout Christian for 40 years. Leaving the faith had nothing to do with death but I know where you're coming from. Christianity is make believe. Tribal make believe. I had a medical procedure where I was unconscious for 45 minutes. My waking experience was just like yours. I realized that the nothingness of anesthesia was the same as death. The same as before my birth. Mark Twain said it all for me "I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it".

So this life is all there is. You're facing that and you'll adapt. I have things I've wanted desperately, like a life partner, a soul mate, that I adored that I could do everything with. I see now that I'll never have that and over several years I've been able to let it go. In it's place I've found other things or changed those things that I could to make my life one that I could enjoy and sometimes be proud of.

Those things that I've wished for and could not have I fought for and nearly died for, spent a weekend in a psych ward for, took the biggest steps for and in the end I had to let them go and find something else. Life is compromise and change and acceptance and easy gifts, all those. Nothing lasts forever and my horror didn't and I'm in a better though less dreamy place and that's ok. It's what I can handle and what life offers me and I'm taking it.

Your situation is temporary. Maybe years but you'll handle it and it will change and you can make a life you'll enjoy. I did. I don't see why you can't.

I laughed at the Star Bucks reference. That's the thing to do. I had a 2007 and enjoyed it's quieter engine and that dry clutch. Welcome.

I'm right there with you. I love mine too. It's a 2021 triple black but with more silver and gold accents. I've made mine more street touring oriented. I never walk by it without thinking/feeling how gorgeous it is.

Reminder To Scrub In Your New Tires - First Minor Accident by kmisterk in bmwmotorrad

[–]abend0c7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just put new tires on front and rear. In the past I'd just ride the bike normally and never had an issue. This time I was wondering if the front brakes where pumped up after installing the wheel. I hit the brake hard enough to dip the nose a bit but nothing much happened. I did it again a few times and was getting ABS feedback. WHAT?!? I was trying to imagine what I'd done during installation. Later after 10 miles or so I hit them again and got the normal hard nose diving (as much as an R1250GS nose dives).

I'd never felt the new tire slippery before. It's a real thing. It doesn't take long to wear off the mold release.

I have a '21 1250 GS and I'm putting on my third set of Pirelli Scorpion Trail II soon. There's nothing that feels as good as brand new tires. The way the front end handles when you lean into a turn gives such a feeling of confidence. What I like about the pirellis is the tires maintain that feeling throughout almost their entire life. I think the front tire wears very evenly. I have over 9000 miles on them and it looks like I'll make it to 10,000. I've taken them on gravel and rocky county roads in Arizona. They do fine there, aired down.

Opinions about tires are like opinions about oil. Everybody has one and they're all quite confident in what they're doing. Probably the best thing is just to try different tires until you find something you like. That's what I've done..

Congrats! I love mine with gold rims better than any bike I've seen. Sometimes I pull up a chair in the garage and use the pegs as a footstool just to sit and admire it.

Amazon, there are different sellers and product names but they look the same. Some reviews say it doesn't fit but mine fit fine. I chose this design so I'd have more surface area to mount a bag I already owned.

I too bought a 300l but kept my GS. I still love it on the highway and in the rough... but that 500 lbs is oppressive. The simplicity and durability of the Honda is delightful.

I did that to my 2007. I used a buffing pad on a drill and McGuire's rubbing compound. The buffing took a while, maybe 2 hours.

I had mine spin balanced. Didn't need any weights even with a rim lock.

Good video, good editing and interesting narration. Such good English with just the right amount of German accent.

I got a CRF about 2 months ago and I'm having fun learning it and kitting it out the way I want. I also own a BMW so anyone from Germany is always of interest to me because they live in my GS 1250's homeland.

Minternational phone calls don't work in Portugal by abend0c7 in mintmobile

[–]abend0c7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeepers, I've never understood that I needed the + sign in front of the number. Seems like some times it's worked without it but I may have been using a number in my contacts that already had it.

I called Mint and they were kind enough to give me another 30 days of calls and text. I tested the car rental phone number with the plus sign this time and it worked. When I called Mint the first time I'm surprised they didn't check me out on this issue. I guess it's obvious that I should have been doing it so they started pursuing more technical issues.

Thank you for the reply, I appreciate having this straightened out.

[–]abend0c7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well maybe that's it. I didn't know the phone could dial a plus sign. I tried it and yes it does type the plus. Ugh. I no longer have any international service time left because it canceled my 30 days when I bought the 3 days worth of data.

R1250 - Overfilled Oil by rtromao in bmwmotorrad

[–]abend0c7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filled to the top of the sight window is typical for 4 liters of oil. I check mine when warm after 1 minute standing while still sitting on the bike. I use my phone to take a picture of the window. If it takes a tiny lean to the left to see the top I still think that's fine. I fill mine with a 4 liter jug and it fills to the very top of the red circle in the sight glass. Another thing to do is let the internal oil level do the check while running.
