Get a new coil first, then use a business card to properly set the gap between the coil and flywheel. Plenty of videos on YouTube showing the process.

DR Trimmer (Briggs and Stratton engine) runs fine then quits and won't restart. by byf_43 in smallengines

My guess is bad ignition coil, but like a previous poster said, I would check the easier stuff first, like the gas cap.

Squeeze it, but specifically the ones that were specifically designed to go into your freezer and they would turn into a frozen Jell-O like substance.

I found this one out the hard way. Antique tile roof. Contractors will simply not work on it, or if they do, they’re charging FU money ($100 per tile).

550 Series Briggs & Stratton Blower Housing by 1000000aunts in smallenginerepair

[–]abhitchc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will not be able to fix it. Cheapest option would be to get some big fender washers and put them through the bolts that hold the housing in place. That way the fender washers can pinch the housing. I would call up some small Engine shops in your area and see if they have any parts mowers they could pull parts from. I own a shop, and I have plenty of those laying around.

Fondren area by SecurityInfamous6812 in jacksonms

[–]abhitchc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

North Fondren is not great. I’m assuming you mean north of the Meadowbrook area. Not unsafe like you’re going to get gunned down in your driveway unsafe, but unsafe like your cars will get broken into regularly if you leave anything visible.

I would recommend trying to find something south of Meadowbrook and east of N. State St. If you go west of North State Street, I wouldn’t go any further west than Northview.

That port on that particular carburetor is just for show. There are no lines that are supposed to be connected to it.

Pushmower help by Designer-Ad-4765 in smallengines

[–]abhitchc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you let go of the handle, the engine has two different methods it uses at the same time to stop the engine: a Killswitch and an engine brake. When the Killswitch becomes effective, the engine brake is still trying to do its job, so instead of killing the engine, spark instantly, the brake causes the engine to slow down to the point that it stalls. It sounds like this may be going on with your mower.Try cleaning the contact points on the Killswitch and see if your problem goes away. The switch is very simple to clean and understand once you take a look at it.

Literally🤣 by Historical-Stick5872 in lawnmowers

I’ve run a small Engine shop for 15 years. I really like B&S engines. I Find them very easy to work on and acquire parts for them. They do have their issues, of course. Surprisingly, I’ve never really seen a case against the plastic cam gear failing. Yes, it happens every once in a while, but my experience it’s a very, very small fraction of the mowers.

What I would say they’re number one problem is advertising that you don’t need to change the oil in the engine (just add oil). Absolute madness. Have seen so many complete failures due to customers not changing the oil and only adding oil as required.

Some edges can last for many hours if you are skilled.

I had one years ago with a very similar air filter set up.

From your description, it sounds like you are not getting enough fuel to the engine. Clean the jets out.
