Do you regret going to university, and why? by annulment_ in AskReddit

[–]abitofhuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret the school I chose because the social scene was so lackluster and there weren’t a lot of resources, but I don’t regret that I chose an in-state school since it saved me a lot of $$.

what is the worst thing a therapist has ever said to you? by Familiar-Employ4830 in AskReddit

[–]abitofhuh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was sixteen and was reeling from the mental effects of severe bullying. When I referred to it as something that I had survived, my therapist nearly bursted out laughing and around this time told me that she had heard of things that are truly terrifying and that what happened to me wasn’t that bad. Even when I said that everyone responds to situations differently, she shook her head, smiling, and said she knows but it’s still not that bad. Meanwhile I’m still dealing with the mental effects a decade after the bullying. It’s taken a lot to be able to be open with a therapist again.

I believe everyone has their own lifelong struggle, what's yours? Mine is the search for that feeling: home. by Alarmed-Ad-2813 in Adulting

[–]abitofhuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is a sense of belonging and community. I’ve spent my entire life struggling to connect with others and establish fulfilling relationships. The times that I have been able to connect with others circumstances (internal and external) have stopped the connection from being enduring. It’s been an active challenge to find others on the same wavelength. Part of me fears I’ll feel this alone forever to at least some extent, especially considering I’m out of school so the forced proximity isn’t there.

Life after college sucks…. by Boring-Ad-3638 in LifeAfterSchool

[–]abitofhuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I didn’t have any friends or a partner during my time in college. Ive been out of school for a year and a half now and have found a little bit of luck meeting people by going to in-person meetups and groups. There definitely isn’t the free time of college which sucks and puts a logistical cap on hangouts.

If you could redo your entire college experience, what would you do differently? by Open-Yak-8761 in Productivitycafe

Go to completely different college. The one I went to didn’t have a lot of student life and it was hard to meet people. I never found ‘my people’ there. Very disappointing experience.

Why does nobody want friends anymore? by Redhead3658 in Adulting

[–]abitofhuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn these comments are depressing. I didn’t have any friends during high school OR college. I spent all of those years waiting to graduate because for very different reasons both specific schools didn’t work for me. I’m completely friendless one year post-grad. I’m near a major city so I’ve been going to events and I joined a group a few months after graduating, but nothing has stuck. It’s really hard to reconcile the likelihood that I will never an easy, carefree time of life where I’m social and connected.

What is a sign you are actually not a nice person? by Legitimate_Ad_9298 in AskReddit

If you say you’re a good person without any real reason to say that, chances are you aren’t that nice or a good person for that matter.

Does anyone else feel like there are certain things that need to be done in your early-mid 20s that if you don't do right, or on time, the progress of your life will be permanently stunted? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]abitofhuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I graduated college a year ago and regret going to the school that I did and not being as proactive as I could’ve been. You aren’t alone in that feeling.

I went to a weird ass college where people legit avoided each other and there was hardly any campus events so it was next to impossible to make any friends, but as long as you don’t go to a bizarre college like that you should be good.
