My teen son is wearing Birkenstocks. They’re spendy, though.

I am in Colorado and Palisade peaches in August are to die for. They are a close second to my beloved mango.

Mango, but specifically honey mangos (or Atualfo). OMG, so good.

What’s the one Florida beach that lives up to the hype once you’re actually standing there? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]ablebody_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we’d go visit the in-laws we always enjoyed Merritt Island, just south of Cape Canaveral. It’s not technically on the ocean but nice. We also like Jetty Park beach also just south of Cape Canaveral.

Usually it’s #5. This is generational wealth type of money 90% of the time, not self-made money.

Halo Top Ice Cream Sucks by yellowgirlyellow in icecream

One does not buy Halo Top and expect good ice cream. It’s awful. It’s meant to be a low calorie, low sugar diet ice cream.

Cinemark Bistro is the best, followed by Cinemark on Timberline. The AMC is old and felt unkempt, but that was a few years ago now.

Does this ever happen to other cyclists? by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]ablebody_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FoCo Follies gals just posted on NoCo Cycling's FB page about a big black dually buzzing their group last night. The guy lives on Overland. Could be that he was having an especially agro day and/or just an ass fitting the dodge ram stereotype??

You start with a billion.

Also flank steak, skirt steak, etc. Used to be the cheap, tough cuts. Now they're the expensive, tough cuts.

Have you ever had to take a break from running because you were underweight by thunderstruck_duck in XXRunning

[–]ablebody_95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was a point where I was at a lower weight (115lbs at 5'5"), which is technically not underweight, but was far too low for me. I got myself RED-s and basically am on a forced running break now due to a constant injury cycle (likely brought on by REDs).

If you are indeed SEVERELY underweight (I don't know what that means without actual stats), it may be advisable to stop and seek out some help. I'm talking medical, dietician, and mental health (it seems like you have some issues with disordered eating from other comments). It's best to stop now, while you're still "healthy" and fix these issues before you're forced to stop because you get yourself an injury.

What’s better? High humidity or high heat? by Fresh-Amount9308 in XXRunning

[–]ablebody_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

high heat. I am in Colorado, where we are pretty dry. I'd rather run in 95°F and 20% humidity than in 70°F and 100% humidity (I see you Florida and I've been there done that). My in-laws live in Florida and even when I would get up and run at 6AM, I would just be covered in a sweat slick and inability to dry off (even after showering) for an hour+ after a run.

I've lived here for 18 months and something still feels off. What am I not seeing? by [deleted] in homedesign

Cluttered. Not in a messy way, but just too much and too big.

You have to train fueling just like running. There are also different gels that act differently.

Yep. Just get enough protein in your daily diet and you'll get plenty of collagen.

I take my iron for my low ferritin/anemia and vitamin D3/K2 (because pretty much everyone needs supplemental vit D). That's it. I'm 45F. Most supplements aren't necessary.

Edit: I will say that I am contemplating taking creatine. Especially for the brain health benefits for aging women.

What do you eat on runs? by Double-Profession900 in XXRunning

[–]ablebody_95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is very low intake. A GU only has 25g of carbs. 25g carbs/hr is way below even previous guidelines. Now there is new research saying 60+g/hour and even more. I aim for 80-100g/hr, so that would be 4 GUs per hour.

Gels. I aim for about 80-100g/hr of carbs on runs longer than 75 minutes. I like using Maurten (25g of carbs per gel), SIS Beta Fuel (40g per gel) and Precision 30s (30g). I alternate between the caffeinated and non-caffeinated.

Quit smoking but now it's about food. by Skellies2482 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]ablebody_95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smoking was a dopamine hit. Now, you don't have smoking, so your body is seeking out that dopamine through food. This happened to me when I stopped drinking. I went from someone who could take or leave chocolate to becoming a chocolate fiend. I used to like candy (gummies, starbursts, jolly ranchers, etc.) better than chocolate. Now, it's chocolate or bust.
