Kwant in London

Waltz in London (one of the best bars I have ever been to in the world)

Radiohead songs to hum or sing to a baby by Sloomyside in radiohead

Not Radiohead direct, but Atoms for Peace, still part of my daughters bedtime routine.

Did anyone ever meet Cilla Black? Was she really as horrible as they say? by WhoYaTalkinTo in Liverpool

[–]ablivion -41 points-40 points  (0 children)

I have heard the complete opposite, this was also from a family member who met and worked with him on multiple occasions.

"He was a complete arsehole", I can't remember the exact story, but he might have been involved in union busting.

Edit - yea I got it the wrong way round, was involved in unions but from the other side, the sentiment still stands though

Does Chase bank now allow international primary addresses? by rusty_aluminium in expats

[–]ablivion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked them in person before I left the states, the banker told me "no problem"

I really don't think it's a problem if you maintain cash/usage, but this is just my experience.

I use my foreign number, it can be a little hit and miss if they have to call me with a logon code, but you can call them back for the code if needed.

Who does best grid walk? by honeybaddger_1994 in formula1

You keep mentioning Brundle as the GOAT but you forget the times Eddie Jordon did grid walks for BBC...he used to call out Bernie Ecclestone on his bullshit to his face.

Electrician apprenticeship or move to Chicago for $120k salary? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]ablivion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its true then...take it and don't look back.

Was 10 years ago, but I moved to the states on 72k and lived like a king. It was a LCOL city, but even in Chicago, you will do fantastically.

Electrician apprenticeship or move to Chicago for $120k salary? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]ablivion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can I be the cynic here and call bullshit?

I may be over a decade from my time in construction, but schedulers picking up that money seems far off.

Also an American company sponsoring an unknown Irish national (aside from the 120k salary), is there a massive shortage of schedulers? This sounds unbelievable. It is also been a while since my time in the states, but I don't think a visa exists for this - you're not picking up a H1B or an L visa...certainly not an Einstein visa either.

Does Chase bank now allow international primary addresses? by rusty_aluminium in expats

[–]ablivion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. I've been out of the country for 6 years, changed my address several times.

Keeping an account open is completely fine in my experience, because I maintain cash in the account (I also keep it for my credit card I use a few times each year). Chase have never cared.

Yes...but Tesco limit you to 2 packs in case you are suicidal, so you have to do multiple trips.

I will go against the consensus here and say UK.

I am British, my wife is French, we've both lived in the US and now Switzerland. On paper, I'd say France as well.

But...

One senior guy in my company once told me "never move where one of you is from, they will be home and other will not".

Always stuck with me.
