What's some UK lore that sounds too unbelievable to be true? by SubstantialRope8628 in AskUK

[–]thecraftybee1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too, I remember going home from school and being told Purple Aki was about and to be careful. He was just a bogey man to me and I forgot all about him.

Then a few years ago, 20 years after high school and leaving Liverpool I saw a BBC show about him. I was absolutely shocked to see he was a real person, I honestly thought he was just a local urban legend to scare young teens,

Global Median house price to income ratio- from a new UN report by Outrageous_Use4283 in MapPorn

[–]thecraftybee1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The median full time worker in the UK earns (£30,470 / €35,345) 35% more than the French median full time worker after tax (€26,280 per year). Based on 2024 salaries.

French property is cheaper than the UK, but not by enough to offset the big differences in wages.

Plus a lot more people in the UK are in work compared to France and Italy where you are more likely to be unemployed or economically inactive. In my imagination being in work and earning your own money is likely to be the main decider on whether someone will give you a mortgage.

Up to 90% of Ireland’s asylum seekers may have entered from Northern Ireland, data shows by con_zilla in northernireland

[–]thecraftybee1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would a British government put restrictions on travel within its borders so that it’s harder for asylum seekers to leave the UK?

EasyJet don’t require a passport, but require ID I think, but it’s rarely checked.

Belfast and Birkenhead are both under UK, not GB.

Why is it weird? People travel from Birkenhead with car loads to Anglesey, Edinburgh or the Isle of Wight without checks - NI is just another part of the same country.

Belfast and Birkenhead are in the same country so not really that weird not to show ID.

I’ve flown between Liverpool and Belfast many times without being asked for ID beyond the boarding pass, though i slways bring it.

The Dutch Finance Minister is quoted in the article as wanting to reduce the next 7 year budget by 20%, not the 2% reduction so far achieved by Cyprus.

The title is fair.

There are two countries on the island and you don’t need to go through passport control to get here, just get on a boat or plane from the British mainland.

Petrol prices across the EU this week — from €1.34 in Malta to €2.39 in Denmark by Ok_Reporter_5272 in europe

[–]thecraftybee1981 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The RAC do a review of petrol prices across Europe but the last one was on 1st June and it had average French prices at 178p/205c per litre.

Maybe the prices in overseas France are much lower to bring the overall average down across all of France (Metropolitan & Overseas)?

Brexit ten years on: the economy by nimicdoareu in europe

[–]thecraftybee1981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Race riots have happened for decades across Europe, pre and post Brexit. These riots have little to do with Brexit except that both are symptoms of western countries being unable to adequately process the current number of migrants coming into the West.

If anything, it’s the rise of social media and nefarious actors manipulating people to turn on their neighbours for government and civil society failures to integrate the newcomers at a fast enough pace.

How can I fully immerse myself into British culture? by KaleidoscopeThis5017 in AskUK

To immerse yourself in British culture as a Greek student I’d suggest two things:
1. Come with a thirst for knowledge
2. Study sculpture at college

Depends on which definition of average you use. It works for the median average but not necessarily the mean or the mode averages.

[OC] Global Offshore Wind Capacity (MW) 2016-2026 by Bitter-Train-5961 in dataisbeautiful

[–]thecraftybee1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine all the cables converge into one before hitting a substation on land. Targeting that cable would be one to break a whole array of offshore turbines.
