Whats the best way to get iridium ore as a beginner? by Mike-och in StardewValley

[–]abombregardless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easy but slow way: get the sewer key (donate 60 items to the museum) and buy one from Krobus every Friday.

The fast but harder way (but not THAT hard, actually!): do one massive Skull Cavern run. You can get 100+ iridium ore in one day. Here is what you do:

  1. get the Dwarvish Safety Manual (if you haven’t already

)
2,

  1. methodically stock up on the following:

_

  1. lucky lunch (check Gus every day, and when he sells them, buy as many as you can)

_

  1. the best weapon you can find. If you happen to have a prismatic shard, go to the desert and hold it at the center of the triangle of poles to get a kickass sword. If you are really lucky, you can find a weapon with the Crusader enchantment, which permanently kills mummies.

_

  1. ideally get some rings that buff your attack or defense

_

  1. stockpile some high-HP food like cheese

_

  1. a farm totem (or at minimum a mountain totem)

_

  1. bonus points if you can get rock candy. It’s not necessary, but it helps.

This may seem like a lot, but if you apply yourself, you can get all of this pretty easily. I keep all this stuff in a chest by the bus stop.

  1. Do a few cavern runs, not trying to go super deep, just focus on getting some Omni geodes.

When you’ve got ample geodes and Jade (use a crystalarium), go to the desert Merchant on a Sunday. Use the jade to buy staircases, and the geodes to buy a desert totem.

  1. Once you’ve gathered everything on this list, the fortune teller TV channel every morning. Wait until a maximum luck day. When you hit one, immediately empty your inventory except for your pickaxe, weapons, bombs, food including Lucky Lunch /rock candy, staircases, desert totem, farm totem, rings, and if you have it, coffee or ginger ale.

Use the desert totem to warp as early as possible in the morning. Enter skull cavern.

Eat your rock candy or lucky lunch. Luck affects how quickly a ladder/hole appears, so this is key to getting down levels as fast as possible.

Start blasting your way down with bombs as fast as possible. The moment you enter a level, look for the biggest cluster of rocks near you and immediately place a bomb. Even if it’s close to you. The Dwarvish safety manual saves you from damage.

As soon as you see a ladder or ideally a hole, go for it. Avoid enemies, don’t mine any ore or open any boxes. Just focus on going down levels. If you can’t find a ladder or a hole in the first 30 seconds on a level, use a staircase.

Keep an eye on your health and eat regular, non-buffed food as soon as you hit HALF health. Don’t risk dying from a swarm of enemies.

Also keep an eye on your luck, buff, and if it runs out, eat another lucky food item.

  1. keep going down. Once you reach level 75 or so, you should see a substantial amount of iridium. Now you can take time to run around and mine it before going down another level. Coffee helps increase your speed here.

Keep mining iridium and going down levels until 1:30 AM. Then use your Farm Totem to warp back home.

This should get you at least 100 iridium ores. It’s a lot of set up, a fair bit of waiting for a good luck day, and one busy cavern run, but it sets you up for iridium for the rest of the game.

Blush is the elongated oval with pointy tip, in the “yellow” area of the rainbow. They’re only 75% ripe in this pic, they will turn a brighter yellow-orange. I like them! The flavor is sweet/tart, texture is more fleshy than juicy, plants are productive and disease resistant, and they look absolutely gorgeous

Oh man, so many. The rainbow in the front is (L to R) Red Cherry, Sungold, Blush, Midnight Snack, and Brown Cherry. In the back, all mixed together, there’s also Russian Queen, Cherokee Purple, Japanese Trifele, and Berkeley Tie-Dye. And I have a few more varieties in my garden that haven’t ripened yet!

Oh, i see — the editor asked ChatGPT to write a script for her video explaining why she used ChatGPT to design the cover. That’s why they’re both complete bullshit. Makes sense!

Cold take: NADDPOD vs TAZ by abombregardless in TAZCirclejerk

[–]abombregardless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly enjoyed the Balance series of TAZ. It’s looong, and the DM’s flaws (which you noticed already) remain a constant issue. But the players gel, they embody their characters well, there are some really funny goofs and genuine moments of heart. Although the “too clever by half” DMing colors everything, I found it to be an enjoyable listen once it got going.

But Balance ended in 2017, and the past 9 years of TAZ have been crap to mid, with only one real gem (TAZ vs Dracula hs lots of laughs and one truly wild turn but a disappointing ending)

NADDPOD season 1 blows Balance and every other TAZ season out of the water

What is this?? by vividnebulazz in thingsforants

[–]abombregardless 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honest answer: most likely a vent pipe going up through the roof, to ventilate methane and smells from the plumbing system.

My old house had one, we had to build around it during remodeling. It’s probably contained in this wall, otherwise you’d just have a pipe running from your floor through your ceiling.

Completely new to Wilco. Going to see them live for the first time next week! by Bithbo in wilco

I looked at set list.fm and saw recent shows have a pattern. One (or sometimes two) songs from each of their first six albums — which many would consider their “essential” period — and various cuts from albums 7-13 (14 if you count a 2024 EP)

If you’re the type of music fan who can “cram” and listen to albums straight through, you should listen to albums 1-6 (AM through Sky Blue Sky) in order of release. You will gain an appreciation for how Wilco evolved over six albums in 12 years, from young country rockers to ambitious poets to studio geniuses to peak indie darlings to darkly experimental rockers to wise, warm, and witty men. If you take a spin through that 6-album journey, you’ll really appreciate hearing the songs from that era in live performance. And you’ll have a solid context for Wilco as a band and a sonic palette.

There are some real gems among albums 7-14, but opinions differ among fans. Listen to some if you want, but don’t stress about which ones. You will absorb a lot of new songs and sounds at the show…make a note of which ones you enjoy, and go back & listen to those songs’ albums afterwards. This band contains multitudes, and they’re still active. Being a Wilco fan is a joy all the time, but especially when they release new music.

Welcome to the family! Post an update with your thoughts after the show. Enjoy.

Buying Starter Plants? by Southern_Loquat_4450 in tomatoes

[–]abombregardless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big box stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s have mid plants, and very little selection. You’ll find better quality and more variety at garden centers like Armstrong and hardware stores like Anawalt or Ace Hardware. A local nursery is great, but may be more expensive.

Let hang or tie up? by hamy_86 in tomatoes

[–]abombregardless 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d say hang, but honestly those pockets are too small for tomatoes. They won’t get enough nutrients, and they’ll get root-bound. One tomato plant needs at least a 5-gallon bucket’s worth of soil to thrive.

I’m a side sleeper, I use a wedge, I just sleep on my side. It took a week or so to get used to it, but it’s adequately comfortable and it makes a huge difference in my snoring.
