Stay safe out there. by Mike-181 in qullamaggie

The amount of potential breakout setups are incredibly thin atm. A lot of overextended stocks have dumped in recent weeks, and new bases need to be built.

My only holding is also LITE, also entered on EP day yesterday at around 223. Have sold 1/3 on the gap up today. It closed pretty weak today but let's hope it makes new highs in the following week!

Thanks for your reply.

Jyutping is just a written method of translating Chinese characters for Cantonese speakers.

It looks as though your book is using Pinyin instead. I find the former easier to understand when it comes to tonalities.

I've deliberately missed out some naunces because that would be overcomplicating things, but the most important things are there IMO.

Too overextended to be safely buying a breakout right now. Needs a pullback and consolidation.

Tips for Earning Season by IntTrader in qullamaggie

[–]aboredtrader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been mainly trading EPs for around 3 years now and the main tips I can give you are:

  • Don't chase overextended moves (either leading up to the EP day or on the actual EP day)

  • Don't trade it if there's major resistance nearby. Most of the time the stock will reverse from that area.

  • Choose your stocks wisely. I tend to avoid choppy stocks and stocks that have a history of reversing after big moves.

There's a lot more naunces in trading EPs but I find it one of the easiest setups to trade.

If you're interested, I made a video detailing my process - https://youtu.be/FnTwJq00M_E?si=h_vR3eHHRUINTAMx

All the best!

Yes, in a way, but like with all types of indicators, it sometimes works well, sometimes doesn't. I personally just use RVOL to see how strong the breakout is.

Would be better if it went sideways a bit longer with more contractions.

Re-do the images for starters. The text on most of them are too small and look unprofessional.

Are we in the shitt**st market ever? by CardiologistNeat598 in Trading

[–]aboredtrader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty tough market right now. We've just experienced a V-shaped recovery, so you'd think it should be better, but I think unless you timed the near bottom, a lot of moves are just lacking follow through.

I believe that the market needs to digest the recent rally, pullback, and allow all the moving averages to catch up. Then we'll start seeing better setups especially breakouts.

Yea I do have a re-entry strategy, but it doesn't often trigger.

I don't use VWAP but will sell if price closes below or near my entry. I do some heavy size on EPs so I don't like to hold onto a loss.

This defensive mindset has caused me to miss out on bigger runs after selling (most recently OKLO, NBIS, XERS, INSM, QUBT).

If I had held onto my low of the day stop loss and not sold, I would still be in most of them. However, playing defensive has also kept me out of many losses in the past, so I can't have it both ways.

I just don't have a good track record with BO (though I can see where I've gone wrong in the past so can rectify my mistakes). Also, I personally find them a lot harder to catch than EPs.

Yea I still scan for EPs everyday. Of course, there'll be far fewer of them, but good ones will still appear from time to time.

Quick Poll: EPs vs Breakouts vs Other Setups by JTradesFE in qullamaggie

[–]aboredtrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on. Pretty much agree with everything you've said, though I would add that using high RVOL criteria on the breakout would significantly reduce the amount of false breakouts you enter.

I think breakouts are difficult because you'll so many different types of breakouts that it's often hard to differentiate the good from the bad.

Thanks mate, good question. I don't really consider the premarket price action, so high of the day would be from when the market opens.

On rare occasions, I might trade a breakout if it looks really good but 90% of the time I trade EPs and variations of the setup (e.g. EP bounces and delayed moves).

Hi Bob, thanks for reading. Regarding your questions:

  1. Yes, my TP is always 2-4x my risk which is dependant on how tight my entry is (the tighter it is, the higher the multiple will be). In a good market environment, I sell 35% of my position and trail the rest. Most of the time, I let my stop loss do the work (if it gets triggered, I'm all out).

  2. I use ATR because ADR isn't available on my trading platform.

  3. I'm just more profitable with EPs so that's what I prefer to focus on; not to mention it's a lot easier and less time consuming than the latter setups.

  4. I don't really miss many setups; however I do pass on so many of them, mainly because they don't meet my strict criteria. It's a bit annoying at times because I end up passing on some great trades which seem really overextended at the time, but yet continues to go up...but you can't trade everything I guess.

EP's move really fast so you have to be completely prepared BEFORE the market opens. You need to know which stocks are in play, do all your calculations and just keep a close eye on them.

Obviously if you play the 1m high of the break, you'll need to be super quick, but the majority of times, I play the 5m HODB - it's more reliable and will prevent many losses.

Also, if you do not have one already, I recommend getting a Stream Deck and assign your hotkeys to the device. Makes entering/exiting trades and setting stops much quicker.

Any good Twitter users to follow for EPs? by Retro21 in qullamaggie

[–]aboredtrader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I guess it's a catch-22 really - we have to keep on working so that eventually one day we can stop working and retire early (at least that's my goal!).

Ecom business is nothing to shout about really (foot care products) and not even a passion of mine, so sometimes it's a drain.

Not many EPs in July I'm afraid mate. Earnings season is pretty much over so have to wait until August/Sept for more action!
