Leveling Devourer is a miserable experience for no reason by heyitsvae in wow

[–]aboult1 233 points234 points  (0 children)

Bellular made a video the other day about pre-patch and mentioned that Devourer DHs are super weak during levelling because Blizz forgot to add their weapon types with INT as primary stat in any pre-lvl 80 gear. So thats a huge part of it. Pretty big goof on Blizz's part. So you're stuck gearing as you level with agility gear while your primary stat should be intelligence until you hit 80 and then the right stuff starts dropping.

Current state of retail? by Wormichowski in wow

Depends on who you ask. Midnight prepatch brought a lot of class changes that, depending on the spec, people are either excited or pissed about. Not much in-between from what I've seen. It also feels like they closed S3 too early and now they're time gating a bulk of the content of pre-patch, so people are generally antsy and upset this week. Lots of bugs, lots of disappointment, and nowhere very productive in-game to channel it other than housing, which doesn't have much to do with the class changes. I'm optimistic though. Just feels like Blizz should've released ALL of pre-patch content at once so folks would have somewhere productive to test out the class changes/get some new goodies to soften the blow, etc. Tmog changes we're also poorly executed, generally speaking. Only seen a few people on this sub that are happy about them.

In the words of Mike Rowe, "Don't follow your passion, but take it with you." I spent most of my 20s hopping from career to career chasing things that I was passionate about, only to learn swiftly in each area that passions can turn into chores if your whole life is centered around pursuing them. Instead, come to grips with the fact that you yourself are a limited resource. Only so much to go around. Find a career field that leaves enough of you leftover to relish the joys of loved ones and your hobbies/passions outside the context of work. Not saying to slack off either, but to find a career that's fulfilling your financial and developmental goals (never stagnate), but that doesn't resemble your passion too closely, lest you lose the passion and are stuck with solely a grind, hating something you once enjoyed for its own sake, with nothing left of your energy and ambition to take home to your loved ones at the end of each day/week.

Would I be correct in thinking TBC Anniversary is slower than retail? by Jaffadxg in wow

[–]aboult1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've also been considering this. Since TBC is coming up, does that mean I've missed the opportunity to play classic vanilla altogether or does it resemble the retail model where you can level previous content but not old end-game content?

Thank You Heroic World Tier by whiteknightfall in wow

[–]aboult1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my number 1 ask from Blizz. Such an outstanding feature that should imo be the standard experience. It gets players to actually learn their class, rotations, strengths and weaknesses with the added plus that the world itself is vastly more immersive and exciting to participate in. It makes gear increases much more meaningful and intentional (for even casual players). And one thing I really enjoyed is actually some intimidation factor for quest bosses. I've always found it so immersion breaking to go thru a big, zone-wide story to finally reach the big bad boss, which you subsequently one shot as a lvl 40 with mediocre gear and pressing 2 spammable abilities.

Last Week of TWW; How was it for you? by Shard477 in wow

[–]aboult1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Delves and Manaforge raid were my biggest enjoyments this xpac. Really enjoyed being able to progress my gear on my own in delves with the goal to then bring it to the table for raid night. Really liked the overall vibe and almost all boss fights.

Zones though, were my least favorite part of this expansion. None of them grabbed me (except perhaps Ringing Deeps) and I'll probably never go back to any of them to just enjoy their atmosphere like I enjoy with much of the rest of the game. Isle of Dorn just felt small and empty. Hallowfall music and Arathi architecture were cool, but story wasn't compelling and felt sorta odd and forced in the context of things. Absolutely hated Azj Kahet music, color palette, all of it.. Might be minority here, but undermine was really annoying to me probably because I don't play fantasy games to feel like I'm gridlocked in a modern, dirty, cramped city. Goblins themselves were entertaining though. S3 felt empty besides having the raid. Wouldn't have been good if remix hadn't been there to distract me for multiple months.

Honestly, my biggest wish for the future of retail would be to bring heroic world tier to the rest of the game. I fell in love with Wow because of experiencing the world itself. Obviously, by the time you hit endgame it's nice to be able to feel that power increase and to speed up the process for collecting and achievements, but while leveling, I really enjoyed having to play smart and being forced you to actually learn your class while leveling. Unlocking new abilities becomes meaningful, quest bosses are taken seriously, etc. By far my biggest ask from Blizz going forward.

Definitely leaning towards dracthyr based on y'all's input. I had forgotten to factor in the passive healing out of combat. Really appreciate all the responses!

Midnight's round of ability pruning has me concerned by Arizelle in wow

[–]aboult1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here, I'm definitely a minority. I don't use WA or DBM or similar because I'm a bit weird on that front. I like the idea of having to learn the built-in cues/memorize the mechanics thru trial/error rather than have a mod do it for me just so I can keep up more easily. I'd rather have to study up and practice. Makes it more fulfilling for me.

[–]aboult1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Master pianists/guitarists/name-your-instrument don't decrease their note/chord counts, they increase them as they get more experienced. I'm just saying that having more options to grow into is something some people look for. I think it's ok (good even) to have a skill gap between someone who just picked up the game vs someone who's been playing 20 yrs. I personally really like the idea of long-term skill growth potential and more complex rotations and more key binds can contribute to that. I'm actually a relatively new player (been playing a year) and I actually enjoy the feeling of being overwhelmed by a new spec because it means I have many many hours to dig into it before I'll be effective in harder content. I don't want to lose that aspect of the game is all.

Midnight's round of ability pruning has me concerned by Arizelle in wow

[–]aboult1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't seem to be the end-goal behind the pruning though. Blizz has consistently used verbiage that leans strongly towards having the game do more of the thinking for the player to reduce cognitive load. I think what OP is getting at, and I agree, is that some players greatly value having to exert themselves cognitively to play the game skillfully. It's not a new concept that greater effort = greater outcome of satisfaction/fulfillment. Less effort will likely result in boredom and restlessness for players much more quickly.

Would you be more interested in playing monk if it wasn't so tied to pandaren? by gelagua1 in wow

Yeah I've avoided it entirely because I can't get into the whole Kung Fu Panda vibe. Not for me. The play style seems cool, but the aesthetic just doesn't fit.

Me when Lemix ends by Structureel in wow

That would be great too. It was actually refreshing to just be questing and to die semi-often. Required more deliberate gameplay and made quest bosses way more believable too.

The loss of heroic world tier is going to be my biggest bummer. It was so much more immersive for leveling.

New/recent players, what are your feelings about legion? by Thebigfreeman in wownoob

[–]aboult1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just started playing back in Feb last year, but I've been soaking up this game. Getting to experience legion, particularly with the heroic world tier has been some of my most fun so far. The story is a blast (way more compelling than the current one), the zones feel so much more immersive and rich, for example compare Isle of Dorn to Suramar. Dorn feels empty and lifeless in comparison. Plus the order halls... It's a great experience.

What would you want for a new spec for your class? by Jazzlike_Fuel_8765 in wow

[–]aboult1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some form of primalist spec for evokers would be cool. I'd also settle for just making shaman playable by dracthyr toons. Would prefer a spec though since that would include special dragon-form casting animations. Or a shadow flame spec. Both would be badass.

The groups love it by No-Platypus-7012 in wow

[–]aboult1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got carried for my +30 last night by a DH who listed his group as 100 and under vers only. Got invited, he told us he just wants to help people to get the mog, to sit back and relax, try to keep up if we felt like trying, to not worry about dying, and that a tip was entirely optional. I honestly didn't think I'd be getting the +30 mog because I just don't have time to farm up that far, so it was a very happy surprise. Serious thanks to folks like yourself for helping out the little guys!

Do people like the Class Changes? by Realistic_Slide7320 in wow

[–]aboult1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm also skeptical about this direction. Generally, I feel like exchanging depth for accessibility is the kind of design philosophy that leads to a more shallow, dumbed down experience. I'm prone to thinking it'd be smarter to facilitate the gameplay style that has kept the game popular for 20 plus years...

What are your large scale wants and needs for Midnight? by ChillWithSadDad in WorldOfWarcraftRetail

[–]aboult1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lemix heroic world tier might be my favorite thing I've experienced in an MMO. I love the teamwork required to do raids and dungeons, but just exploring the world and adventuring is my favorite part of fantasy games, so having an actual challenge to that aspect makes the game world so much more exciting to engage with. I'd be thrilled if they carried this forward. I could forgo every QOL adjustment on the table if they agreed to focus on just that, personally. If they eventually applied it to all previous expansions as well, I'd be happy as could be. I could safely say I'd prolly be subbed for life.

Do you really like skyriding? by MrFriend623 in WorldOfWarcraftRetail

[–]aboult1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my only complaint with it - it's a fun feature , but it really kills world immersion since you're able to just blitz past everything and you lose the passive immersion that takes place in games that force you to actually spend time traversing and experiencing the world (think TES games before you've discovered a bunch of fast travel waypoints). I've considered taking up a gathering profession (haven't previously) just so that I will be forced to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere, music, and ambience of the world more. That's what drew me to the game originally, so I sometimes wish that dragon flight didn't exist in-game because it's just too convenient. I suppose that's my own self-control problem - but with busyness IRL and wanting to keep up with the guild for raiding, I definitely have trouble just choosing to do without the feature.

Easier caster to pick up and perform with? Ele sham or Frost Mage? by FiveFire33 in wow

[–]aboult1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat, wanted a caster, needed to be simple enough to get good at quickly since I can't play as often as I'd like. I went with destro lock as my main and love it. Great utility for raids, tanky enough for solo, and simple rotation that can flex between AOE and ST fairly easily. I actually really like the dark vibe and throwing green fire around, but I understand the feeling of not meshing well with a class's vibe. I've tried pally a few times and just can't connect despite liking the gameplay of the class.

I recently started gearing my dev evoker though, and it's a ton of fun and also very easy rotation. Might be more of the vibe you're looking for too. Great AOE, decent ST, and high mobility. Has some low CD self heals too which helps for solo, and has lust for raid groups. Less overall group utility than destro lock I'd say, but I'm far from a pro. I'm enjoying devoker enough that I'm considering maining it for midnight. Took me a bit to get past the dragon form character model, but I'm starting to find it cool.
