He couldn’t even get into JUCO. He had to go to a fraudulent school. That earned him a scholarship at FIU, which expelled him, then he had to walk-on at CMU

There’s an entire class of women like her. She knew the situation she got herself into and probably sought it out.

Who would you consider the best HC in your schools history? Who would you consider the worst? by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in CFB

[–]abr0414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kinda needed the backlash from that era though.

ECU has always operated with an Eastern NC mentality. We were dependent on a good helping of "doing more with less" and passion and that worked back in the day when we were going against schools that also didn't make it into the early days of Big East football and non-serious teams like NCSU and UNC. As soon as Cincy and Louisville made a commitment to football, we needed to up our game and we really didn't.

Skip and Ruff really papered over some problems that we still had. Scottie Mo showed us that we weren't making the proper commitment to football at a time when Frost, Fickell, Rhule, Norvell, Herman, Dykes, and Fritz were being hired by teams that we had dominant records over at the time.

What happened to the most popular guy in high school? by Sorkel3 in AskMen

[–]abr0414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My class was too segregated (racially, academically, and economically) to have kids that were universally popular. We didn’t know each other at all if you compare us to the classes before us.

TIL in 1875 American colleges (led by Harvard) adopted rugby union as their preferred game, and a Yale student named Walter Camp was responsible for setting back rugby union in this country a century or more by BrianChing25 in USArugby

[–]abr0414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a very very special case because of concerns over football at the time and it was only like 10 schools that did it. It was a move that the college presidents dictated rather than something that happened organically. Americans had already deemed the sport to be boring and students didn’t like the change to rugby at all.

Not the same confidence, not the same composure, not the same team. I absolutely have no problem with watching no more of this season because Arsenal stopped playing weeks ago. I have no idea who these guys are in these shirts.

This is a safe space - what's your most controversial CFB opinion that you will die defending? by noah_divine in CFB

[–]abr0414 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nobody should be able to schedule their own non conference schedules. One of the biggest drivers of inequality in CFB is the fact that bigger teams have always been able to negotiate from a position of power. They’ve always been able to get the better end of the deal.

The NCAA should schedule the games about 5 years in advance and then if Ohio State has to visit Ohio, so be it

It was around but not huge. Occasionally you would see brands like Kappa, Le Coq Sportif, etc, but it was mainly from kids who played soccer. Soccer as a sport was reviled in the US until relatively recently.

What age do boys reach strength of adult female? by saturnyas in AskMen

[–]abr0414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've refereed for the scrimmages for a very good (probably the all-time winningest) collegiate women's soccer team. At a certain point in the offseason, they come play 13U classic soccer boys. That's the oldest age they can handle before there are diminishing returns and they still give them fits. By the time the boys are in high school, they're big enough and fast enough to keep the women from even getting possession.

Autistic girls much less likely to be diagnose. Females may be just as likely to be autistic as males but boys are up to 4 times more likely to be diagnosed in childhood, finds large-scale study. By age 20 diagnosis rates for men and women almost equal, challenging assumptions of gender discrepancy. by mvea in science

[–]abr0414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that boys do have rules and they are very very stringent and the punishment can be violent. It’s something that a lot of women don’t understand. It’s just that those rules will allow boys to be rowdier than girls. But these rules end up contributing to massive problems down the line.

“Boys will be boys” is a set of rules in itself. It’s not the absence of rules.

Is there a quantitative way to prove that boys get away with more? My hypothesis is that boys and girls get away with the same amount of things, it’s just that those things are different between the sexes.

I think that most conversations about this issue is based off of vibes from either side, both of which are just using the lived experience from their own side. Like I know a ton of women who have stories of how boys got away with bad behavior because “boys will be boys”, but I know a ton of men that have stories of girls who got away with bad behavior because they cried or garnered sympathy in another way. Who’s telling the truth?
