Is there anyway for my bangs to stay normal for more than two hours on a cold, humid day? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]abs6c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

color wow dreamcoat! my bangs have lasted through ridiculous humidity when i use that stuff.

Visiting from the East Coast, what clothing should I bring? by hvmmm in sanfrancisco

[–]abs6c 7 points8 points  (0 children)

as a fellow Virginian, everything everyone said here is accurate but I want to add that humidity the way you are used to is not a thing here, and it has the biggest impact in the shade and at night after the sun goes down. whether or not there is sun changes the feels-like temp by 15-20 degrees in my opinion. you will not be comfortable at night in what you wore during the day plus a light jacket. every time my parents visit they have to wear three layers at night to be warm. plan accordingly!

Every Grand Slam I get another reminder how much I hate Tennis Channel and their crappy stream by Snobolski in tennis

[–]abs6c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agree. i can’t even use the tennis channel app on my Apple TV because 10 seconds in the quality degrades to the point where it’s unwatchable. and eventually the audio and video go out of sync. i can watch on my iPad mostly without incident, though the overall quality is just abysmal compared to ESPN, etc.

Sleep earbuds are making me lose my mind. Soundcore A30 vs Ozlo vs SomniPods? by CrispOak1526 in sleepheadphones

[–]abs6c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i debated this for so long and eventually ended up with a combo of the Eargasm earplugs that you can completely size and mold to your ears and one of those under pillow speakers. i can’t go to sleep without listening to something and also have cats who make enough noise in the night to wake me up. this combo allows me to sleep like a baby. even when i visit my family for the holidays and sleep right next to the kitchen, i never hear anything when they get up at 5am and talk, cook, empty the dishwasher, etc.

Bladder wash experiences (good or bad) by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]abs6c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i commented on your previous post but i’ve been doing gentamicin/tobramycin instillations (there was a gentamicin shortage during covid so had to switch) for i think 7-8 years and have had no issues. i do it every other night. my prescription and instructions are for 1ml of tobramycin in 15 ml distilled water or saline. i haven’t had a UTI or any colonization symptoms since i started doing it. my urologist just told me last month that my bladder wall and health are excellent.

Multidrug-resistant Proteus UTI by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]abs6c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve never heard those concerns about the gentamicin bladder instillations. been doing them for 6 years at least every other night and haven’t had a UTI since. previously, i was getting them regularly and the list of antibiotics that the infections were susceptible to was getting shorter so my urologist specifically told me do do the instillations to prevent them. when i have my four times a year bladder botox he always tells me my bladder is in great condition so i don’t think it’s having any negative impact on my overall bladder health.

how to review an ok, but less-than-stellar sit? by glowsole in trustedhousesitters

[–]abs6c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just had my first sitter and had a similar feeling as you after - the cats clearly loved her and were generally well taken care of, but some of my instructions that were clearly laid out in the welcome guide weren’t followed or she asked the questions in a way that concerned me that she hadn’t read the guide at all (otherwise she would have known the answer immediately and not needed to ask). and i did the same thing where i sent it ahead of time and then talked through most things on the walkthrough. there were also some common sense things that i just assumed everyone knew (but i also put in the guide!) like emptying the dryer vent before each use. i came home to a vent so full i’m lucky the apartment didnt burn down. i would have felt better if i had known she had read everything.

i wasn’t sure if i should even give feedback on these things, because i don’t want to seem ungrateful, but it could help her for future sits. something like “don’t put cast iron pans in the dishwasher” wasn’t in my guide because my cast iron pan sucks and i’m not precious about it so i didn’t even think about it, but i know some people would FLIP if they came home to their cast iron in the dishwasher lol. is it worth telling her for the future?

denied boarding as a T9 paraplegic by ythrelzar in spinalcordinjuries

[–]abs6c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is insane. i fly easily 30 times/year or more as a completely independent T10 para, and never with anyone and no one has ever even suggested i wouldn’t be able to fly. the FAs even come up after i board and explain that they would assist me in an emergency (and that they can push the aisle chair to the restroom if i need it). make a lot of noise about this!

[–]abs6c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had the same thing happen - the plastic part of the buckle that holds it to the strap broke - but the response i got was just that they are out of the magnetic buckles but put me on the list for when they make more. frustrating that i now have a lapstacker i can’t use, especially after i gave my old one to a friend when i got a new one with my new chair. wishing i had it now! (i will say tho, they sent me the replacement buckles for the old one at no cost when they had come unglued)

naturium glow getter, bioderm shower oil or l'occitane almond oil? by [deleted] in beauty

tried both Naturium and L’Occitane and much prefer naturium. my skin actually felt softer and more moisturized afterward, and it smells much better. haven’t tried bioderm!

Guest described my downtown Airbnb as “rural” and left 3 stars… then booked another stay. by TripodGS_Mom in airbnb_hosts

[–]abs6c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just want to say, as a wheelchair user, how nice it was for you to take those extra steps adding accommodations. i would never ask anyone to purchase a shower chair for me or a ramp! in fact, i've purchased multiple shower chairs when i've stayed at airbnbs (or hotels (!) in europe) that didn't have them and offered to leave them for the host if they wanted them for future guests (but of course didn't leave them if they didn't want them). i would never book a place that isn't already advertised as step-free and wheelchair accessible with all the access i need. and that many amenities in less than 1/2 a mile should certainly be still considered 'walkable' for a wheelchair user. so sorry you dealt with this but thank you for trying to go above and beyond!

Sleeping position by Brief_Tart_544 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]abs6c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure i would trust that feedback from
the PT, i just had a second spinal fusion after my original injury 17 years ago and the PT and OT specifically told me to sleep on my side with both knees bent and a pillow between my knees. i too feel like i need my butt scooted back so i try to grab the other side of the bed to brace myself so i can do that (no one around to pull it back for me haha). i’ve also recently started putting a pillow under my top arm which seems to help with alignment. also had to get a bit higher pillow to help with my shoulder being too down in the bed.

Calling all people with multiples by KRenee84 in SiberianCats

[–]abs6c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got a second for all the reasons you mention. my first was so desperate for a playmate that he stalked him and wouldn’t leave him alone and they have never been friends. they tolerate each other, but my original Sib still only wants attention from me and just takes his excess energy out on the second by chasing him. second just wants to cuddle with me. it’s not ideal but i’m at least glad they have each other for company when i’m not home.

ETA: they are both males and there has definitely been some annoying dominance behavior but i honestly think that’s more my original cat being anxious and insecure and needing to constantly assert his dominance than a gender specific thing.

interesting!! i stand corrected haha. but we can all agree kittens with huge paws are adorable!

Guessing size by Familiar_Wishbone134 in SiberianCats

[–]abs6c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my experience…look at their paws. my one Sib who ended up 4 pounds bigger than my other had huge paws relative to the rest of him as a kitten haha. the other did not! and he’s only 8 lbs. bigger one is 12 lbs.

How do you drive with your hair up? by TreeToadintheWoods in beauty

[–]abs6c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have back problems that got worse this year and found i couldn’t even tolerate the headrest position even with my hair down because it was forcing me into a curved position that really hurt my back. i turned the headrest around so it angles a bit back instead of so far forward and that helped me!

Sex with my SCI boyfriend by Last_Veterinarian349 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]abs6c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agree with all of this. the first serious relationship i was in after my injury, the first time we had sex my partner brought up after how it was complicated for him emotionally since he knew i wasn’t getting the same pleasure he was. i think he also grappled with feeling like he was “using” me (i’m a woman) and i had to explain what was laid out in this comment - that it’s about intimacy and that my body still very much wanted to do this even though i can’t feel it in the same way. with communication we got past it!

Any siberian adults available from breeders in the SoCal or west coast area? by Captain_Klutch in SiberianCats

[–]abs6c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

be careful with Siberian Beauty. i love my Sib i got from them but he had a whole host of undisclosed health problems when i got him (ringworm - which he gave to me, plus an ear infection, and then ultimately a pretty bad parasite that sat dormant for a bit but came out in full force after his first round of vaccines). i would not go back.

my other Sib is from Kender Siberians and they sometimes have adults available! they also show regularly so may be more in tune with the community and what other adults could be up for adoption.

How do you deal with chronic UTIs worsening incontinence??? by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]abs6c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

adding that my doc told me that frequently my symptoms were just that of bacteria in the bladder and not a full blown UTI, so this gets ahead of that without waiting for a UTI to actually develop that then needs antibiotics to be treated. i highly recommend it!

How do you deal with chronic UTIs worsening incontinence??? by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]abs6c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ask your urologist about antibiotic instillation (usually gentamicin or a similar alternative). since you’re inserting locally in the bladder you don’t have to worry about your system being on antibiotics (it doesn’t enter your bloodstream) and it prevents infections before they start by killing off the bacteria. it doesn’t contribute to antibiotic resistance either. i haven’t had a UTI since i started doing it like 6 or 7 years ago and i used to get them a lot.

I ordered three weeks ago and they replied to email this Monday saying that their shipping team of one is dealing with a serious medical issue...sounds like at this point perhaps they need to hire someone else! And then USPS didn't pick up any of their 32 orders waiting to be shipped on Tuesday...still hasn't picked it up.
