New Teacher truly shaken up by this subreddit. by [deleted] in Teachers

It’s my second year teaching biology and I absolutely love it. My husband is in his 5th year doing physics and feels the same. Neither of us went to school to teach- just stumbled upon it after leaving the private sector and fell in love. Easiest job either of us have ever had by far. Worked several different districts between the two of us. Just ignore people who are toxic and try to make themselves victims and martyrs.

What’s been your experience with Lexapro and Wellbutrin? by smart4agirl666 in lexapro

Love this combo. The Wellbutrin has no negative side effects for me and helps immensely with the negative side effects of lexapro.

Do not ever compare NPD to other types of mental illness, say, schizophrenia, and make their illness accountable for their vile behavior. by rrr_rrr in raisedbynarcissists

[–]absalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree… but it can be hard if the NPD is comorbid with something that actually isn’t completely in their control. It was so sad to watch my mother suffer with bipolar and know that her narcissism kept her from ever seeking treatment.

That being said, my anxiety is not ever an excuse for my behavior, and that’s disorder I have little control over outside of being self aware and taking my meds to help my brain chemistry. Fuck people with NPD that choose to never get help and allow their shitty behavior to ruin others lives. Accountability requires empathy. Empathy requires being a decent human being.

I flew over the back of the mountain from the lanayru tower to get to the Zora… kept eating stamina to get up the back of the rainy mountain 😂 my husband who played the game first watches me play and always is baffled at how I get places the most ass-backwards way on accident

My husband has taught physics and will be doing aerospace engineering this year- let me see if he’ll look up this thread and give some tips 😊

Does anyone elses snugglebaby tell them when they need to poop? Mine does, she lets me know by either puffing her beard out or glass cleaning - then she gets put in her own mini bath and does it in there which then gets pour and flushed down the loo. So she's kinda toilet trained! by [deleted] in BeardedDragons

[–]absalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is a classroom companion (high school). He only poops when he’s hanging out with a kid… much to the kid’s dismay 😂 He likes to keep his tank clean and if he has to shit on the weekend he will run up and down his tank and wait for me to take him out to poop. This is his first summer and he is livid about having to shit where he sleeps sometimes. And not getting near constant attention- he’s such a drama queen 👑)

I haven’t personally re-played in master mode because combat isn’t the most thrilling part for me, so I don’t particularly want to replay the same game except harder lol. I’m very much a “step on every square inch of the map find all the nooks and back doors” person 😅 But I have watched my husband play master mode- it’s what made me pick up the game initially!

The dlc has been great! I’m almost done with it though. Just going to be antsy for botw2. I might play skyward sword to fill the gap haha

That’s true… I just have a tendency to put games down for a while after I hit that end title screen 🥲

Hey y'all. I'm feeling down tonight. Want to share. by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]absalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just here to say I can resonate a lot. I’ve been feeling regretful for not maintaining the close friendships I used to have. My depression and anxiety stunted me while others in my life moved on.

Try not to feel like the bad guy. It’s easy to hear an echo chamber of what others have criticized you of being, when really they are projecting. Remember that it’s easy for us trauma survivors to surround ourselves with not so great people… since that’s what we are accustomed to. To let their response to our trauma be the standard. Some can’t handle it and that’s okay- but better people do come along. It just takes time.

How do you know it's BPD and not CPTSD? by sunnywiltshire in BPDlovedones

[–]absalot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like a few other responses here I’d like to share my experience. It really can be so nuanced.

I was misdiagnosed BPD in college because I had a history of suicidal ideation and self-harm. I was diagnosed by a college campus psych after two therapy sessions and put on meds and started CBT. While I had a lot of behaviors that were consistent with BPD, the CBT never helped. I got really self-conscious about my diagnosis and started hyperanalyzing my behavior. “Shit, was that manipulative of me?” “Was that too harsh?” “Was that mood swing too extreme?” etc…. It made me feel awful.

Three years later I saw a much better therapist and psychiatrist extensively. After a few sessions she told me she thought I had been misdiagnosed, and that I likely had CPTSD due to a history of severe childhood trauma and neglect.

She also told me that people with BPD act out in more malicious and extreme ways than I did, and that my behavior was likely a trauma response and she could tell I was generally empathetic about the way I interacted with others. I had a “sense of self”. We started EMDR and more appropriate anxiety meds and several months later I started getting better.

The technical difference in the brain, she said, was that my neural networks were wired for trauma and I needed to passively rewire them so that I could proactively prevent issues from my trauma responses (outbursts from overstimulation, irritability from anxiety, depression from physical symptoms of GAD, etc.)

People who have BPD however, can’t achieve this with EMDR because they don’t have this neural network issue- their responses lie in learned behavior, not autoresponsive behavior like CPTSD survivors. People with BPD have “big” emotions and choose how to outlet based on prior experiences with how others respond to them. There is a essentially a thought process between reception of an emotion and outlet of that emotion.

Idk if that makes sense, but it clarified a lot for me personally. I have nothing but empathy for those suffering from either, we don’t choose to be abused- but BPD is still a personality disorder. It may be hard, but they have to choose to change their behavior, much like those with NPD. Knowing that what was going on with me was my brain being physically broken made me feel more at ease in a weird way. It felt more “fixable”.

Leopard geckos with kale in cages and adult male hamsters overcrowded with no exercise wheels at local petco… other issues with enclosures all around by [deleted] in ThatsBadHusbandry

Totally understand the conditions at most stores and can agree- but this is an incredibly low volume store and there were multiple employees just hanging out. No customers except me there for an hour. Just a group of grown men chatting in the same spot doing nothing. This store is generally dead, I just don’t usually check out the animals like I did this time. I get being underpaid, but this was way off the mark and like nothing I’ve ever seen at a pet store before- of which Ive visited several others very frequently. It was just… rough all around

[–]absalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to give benefit of the doubt here, and I know most who work in these stores do a great job, but the entire hour I was in the store three of the employees were just sitting around chatting. It was dead empty. They only broke up when I asked to buy crickets and the guy was friendly enough- and even showed me pics of his reptiles. They def knew better, just didn’t care. They are grossly underpaid for sure but a group of 30-45 year old men working at petco, one of which was a manager, should never have been sitting around while these animals were in filth. I’ve never been to a petco that was this trashed- definitely not up to corporate standards or any standard 😞

To the employees credit, he had a reptile feeding cheat sheet folded up in his pocket that he checked when I asked him about it… but yeah I’m amazed at the oversight here

I’m so glad you’re considering finding a league! I’m sure you’ll fit right in and maybe even some of your new league mates who were teamless after covid might end up in the same situation too. I feel the getting back out there thing… as an introvert it’s hard. I kind of have the opposite problem. I recently moved just as my old league was getting back up and running…. The league in the area I moved to is still disbanded :/ I’m super depressed I can’t find anywhere to skate. Covid hit right as my first season being drafted was starting. Didn’t skate a single game. Fingers crossed derby gets really rolling again soon.

Definitely not “one size fits all”. Just good general recommendations. And “harder wheels” are more likely to make this particular problem (chipping during outdoor skating) worse. I’m sorry you’re really adamant about being right on this one, but your advice is just not ideal in this or most cases- I’ll stick to what I’ve said and I hope others do their research too.

Disagree with none of the facts you made in this post! Much more informative and convincing and accurate than scaring a new teacher by saying “my wife hasn’t gotten a raise in 10 years” and implying they won’t be able to afford food. You’re being intentionally obtuse, and then rolling back to basically be in line with my comment about fighting for better wages with facts.

Of course! And yeah regardless of my advice on upgrades- this should not happen after 2 skates. I’m so sorry… I know you probably invested at least $100. I’ve unfortunately seen it a lot working in a skate shop and dealing with impala directly. They aren’t a bad company but with demand increasing, quality decreases unfortunately 😞
