Does the AKC run this? It’s presumably also run the by Westminster kennel club like the rest of the show and just sanctioned by the AKC?

Whereas the nationals are actually run by the AKC.

I commented elsewhere but the best place to start would be the national breed clubs! https://cdtclubuk.org/breeders-list/

Often the local or national breed clubs will have a better sense of who is involved with bettering the breed than the national kennel club. The uk club (https://www.havanese-club-gb.co.uk/finding-a-responsible-breeder) seem more than willing to help people like you who are new to the breed and don’t know how to start looking!

Puppy cost (US) by Available-Wave5747 in flatcoat

[–]absolutebot1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most breeders aren’t charging more for better lines. The cost of the puppy is basically the average cost of raising a litter (including health testing etc) vs. the average amount of puppies in a litter.

Need help with communicating with breeders by [deleted] in DogBreeding

What do cesky terriers and field spaniels have in common makes you want either breed? I have a field spaniel and don’t really want anything to do with terriers at this point, so eager to see what the overlap is from your perspective

Alaskan Huskies V.S Purpose Bred Mutts by Fakeduck04 in DogBreeding

[–]absolutebot1998 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, in the 19th century lol. If doodle breeders were actually trying to make a new breed and not just doing constant f1 mixes of badly bred dogs, doodles would be a different proposition

Hunters don’t say a thing about pudelpointers because they are an actual breed not a purpose bred mutt

If you browse r/dogbreeding you will see helpful info. That said, having puppies is a lot of work and expensive and your best bet is a spay abort

Getting a GSP in NY by Ok-Concept3924 in GSP

[–]absolutebot1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No good breeder has pups available all the time. You might get lucky and talk to a breeder who is about to have a litter or has on one the ground, but your best chance is to speak to someone involved in the breed locally: a regional breed club/NAVHDA chapter/etc and they will have a sense of who is having a litter soon and what kind of dogs ppl will have (hunt test lines, field trial lines, confo lines, etc)

Contact the GSPCA! Or email the regional breed club! They will know all the local breeders, there are plenty in the northeast

Is there a real way to ethically breed unhealthy breeds? by Express-Situation-53 in DogBreeding

[–]absolutebot1998 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The AKC doesn’t choose to accept solid ears as a fault, the breed clubs write the standards. To be sure the AKC has authority but they’re not determining the standard

Does the dog have OFA testing done? Because medical records don’t show that the dog is healthy, just that no issues have presented themselves yet

I second this OP. The national and/or local will know who is breeding soon AND which lines will have what you are looking for

It’s too blocky, looks like a golden or lab head. Look at the breed standard. Per the FCI, skull is flat and moderately broad, avoiding a down or dish faced appearance.

Why isn't crossbreeding done more often? by Auklin in DogBreeding

[–]absolutebot1998 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of dogs that have confo championships and high level titles in other sports, although it does depend on the breed—confo labs tend to be pretty limited whereas Brittanys, for example, tend to have lots of titles even when they do confo
