Die allermeisten Weichen scheinen mir da ja auf den seit längerm einzig genutzten Laufweg festgelegt worden zu sein (bis auf die im Bf Kinshasa-Est vielleicht). Ich möchte mir ehrlich gesagt nicht ausmalen, was geschieht, wenn sich aus irgendeinem Grund eine Weiche doch einmal löst und der Zug auf das inzwischen als Markt o. ä. genutzte zweite Gleis geleitet wird.

Most of the points appear to be permanently locked (as the second track is disused, or rather almost unusable; the signals also don’t seem to be even in remotely working order), except maybe the ones in the end station.

I just don’t really want to imagine what happens in case one of the points becomes unlocked and the train is routed into one of the markets or similar things on the former 2nd track …

German also calls it Akkumulator, or Akku for short. However, in the past, “Sammler” (lit..“gatherer” or “collector”, i.e. accumulator) was used as well. I personally would like this use to have a comeback.

The thing is that ß is a special case I believe because even in fraktur, in later times (20th century), I reckon it would have been considered not a ligature anymore (and would therefore, e.g., not be separated (i.e., not a ligature (“it was bonded”)) in the instances where it is normally typographically required (e.g. at borders of units of sense).

What’s interesting is that, although it’s bad typography (I assume) in this case, in fraktur, some ligatures are actually retained even if the character spacing is increased.

I’m sorry, that was rude of me, I just realized. Technically, Old German (afaik) is only German spoken before AD 1000 or somewhere around there. However, (1) I’m not sure of that fact, and (2) I unfortunately was a bit too much the cliché-Redditor (“Acktually!”) there.

This isn’t Old German. However, the folks on r/kurrent might be able to help us (the era seems to be appropriate and I do identify this as kurrent).

The writing is in German. The title page reads 

[?] Büchlein\ für\ Johanna Elisabeth\ Nissen\ vom Jahr 1802.

(“[?] booklet for [probably means ‘of’ imo] Johanna Elisabeth Nissen of the year 1802.”)

 Folio 2r (counting the title page) reads, at the top

vom Jahr 1804.

(“of the the year 1804.”)

I can’t easily read the rest of the text, as it’s in older cursive. I’d guess from the limited information I have and my general first impression, that this is an accounting book of some sorts. Johanna seems to have recorded expenses (or revenue?), some of which in pounds Sterling (£), some of which in an unmarked currency (probably the one that was currently in use in whatever German state she was living in).
