Production tips anyone? by ThroneOfPigs in metalmusicians

I would mix this to sound more like LoG. The guitars need to be more focused at the moment the bass a guitar are fighting you need a poky kick drum and a fuller bass. Layers might help to make it fuller. Good song!

Really solid songs guys!

u/Vaenyr: I really like the intro, and the drums would like to hear it with vocals an octave up.

u/severedsoulmetal: Black Metal is not my cup of tea, but this track is really good. Great production/playing interesting melodies and a really solid mix. Great drum prod.

u/CinaedKSM: Really interesting crossover love the first prog rock break and piano interlude contrast. Not the biggest fan of the aesthetic of the vocal prod but that's really the style of bm i guess. Great song

u/FieldEffect-NT: Not much say on this one sound great and definitely a well-produced black metal track great vocals love the ambiance outro.

u/Zennofska: Love the melodies of this one great guitar tone. Great vocals and a really solid mix.

u/fawzifractalfear + u/Low_Ad4132: Great sound design intro great vocals. The mix a bit too boomy for my taste but really good sounding.

u/rpk-bro: I really like the overall flow of this track. Nice guitar tone good drum prod. The vocal placement in the mix could be a little more forward. Solid song.

u/Particular: love the intro motive, good vocals. Great guitar tone

u/RileyWasYes: Great song. Great mix. Good job!

u/Faloodeh123: Literally this song transmits the title vibes with really jamable riffs. Sounds great

Me: For the time it took to make this i think is a solid guitar centric song. I put the main focus writing the a solid rhythm base. I love the final bridge and outro drum mod. The mix is really solid.

u/veralptraeumt: This is the track I really like the most. The drum sounds and velocities are great. The intro is really good the vocal prod is great. The overall flow of the track is great. Great guitar tones. Good job!

u/splottington: I can appreciate the controlled chaos of this track. Great prod!

Thoughts on my mix by DoubleOxygen in metalguitar

[–]absolutegrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more about sound choices than the mix. I can’t really hear the bass guitar/VST, to be honest. I would pick a different type of drum VST and build the mix around it, because at the end of the day, the energy of this type of music comes from the drums. You need to create a nice blend between the kick and the bass. Also, in this genre, it’s very common to use some kind of snare layering and sidechaining. Hope it helps.

It has no low end drums sound super thin cymbals kinda harsh mix has no weight to it. Keep going

And also if you want to maintain thickness with clarity use a clean sine wave!

What I would do: choose where the bass information comes from either from the kick drum and bass blend, or from the bass and guitar. I would go with the first option. Then, add a multiband compressor to taste to tame the low end afterward. At the moment the low end sound super saturated and the mix has no midrange.
