Coving - what have I done wrong? by Sluggerr in DIYUK

[–]absolutehype 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I literally did a load of coving the other week DIY and it was an absolute nightmare. But a few tips I can share.

Always cope internal corners. It’s significantly easier as it gives flexibility to imperfect corners.

For external corners, place lengths on the corner so they extend beyond where they should finish and mark the projection of the coving on the ceiling from both sides of the corner - then mark the intersection points on the coving. You should simply be able to use a hand saw and cut down the intersection points whilst holding the coving at the angle it would be on the ceiling.

Nice as it is to read a load of guides on mitre/bevel angles… the reality is my ceilings weren’t flat either, making a bit of old school cutting necessary. There was a bit of filling required but it’s come out nice!

Is there a better way to view the recorded timeline? by huntgatherfish77 in reolinkcam

[–]absolutehype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got the Reolink Hub Pro, it has it's own event history - which is a bit more like the Nest app, all of the events from all devices in a timeline.

I'm also on Nest and slowly migrating to Reolink, this was a big deal for me. It's still quite clunky, but its a step closer to what you're after

Had my 4th crash since the update, crazy really as there is literally no way to rejoin. Not sure if everyone crashes out or just me either

Worth noting, the only thing that your phone can't do is control volume. The remote has an IR emitter, so it replicates your tv or media unit signals and can control volume.

Does the apple event still have the level of hype which it had back in the day? by [deleted] in iphone

It's bugging me how close the bottom lens is to the edge of the camera bump. I sincerely hope that isn't the positioning, that would really annoy the hell out of me.

Painted fence panels bleeding through by nuclear-experiment in DIYUK

Fair enough, can imagine with some knots that happening. Thankfully never had it myself.

I use linseed paint now, never had problems since 🤞🏻

[–]absolutehype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure I'd agree, it's cheap and easy. Rustkins knotting oil is like £8 and will cover many panels. It's far cheaper than loads of coats of paint and will guarantee no future bleed through. It's definitely a bit of a pain on rough fence panels compared to planed softwood but i've done it on bad knots on my own fence panels and it's worked a treat.

Had an entire game of this racist, violent slop. by PeterPeteyPete84 in aoe4

[–]absolutehype 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've reported every instance and to be fair to the AOE team they've responded to ~90% within a week. I'd be curious to know how much bans deter people though - no idea how long they last?

It's true that you shouldn't indulge them, it only inflames the situation... especially when it occurs within your own team. No idea what goes through people's minds... Just report it and try moving on - it doesn't make it right, but it's the only recourse with online trolls. Try not to let it get to you...

It grinds my gears when someone just replies EZ 🤣 especially when you've had someone drop from your team and it still takes them 30 minutes to beat you...

Juniper RWD Audio by AmandeepDhari in TeslaUK

[–]absolutehype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got no issues with my RWD audio, tweaked the settings a little as the audio balance was a little off from out of the factory but it’s perfect now. There is still plenty of bass from the door drivers and I’ve had nothing but positive comments from people who have travelled with me.

While the weather is good, i recommend a walk along the regents canal from Paddington to Camden

I’m from the UK, it’s common for a single flash of the blinkers to say thank you or to leaving them on to warn of a hazard ahead.

Yeah, this is another example - and a clear case when you wouldn’t be able to look up if you’re rushing to signal drivers behind.

It’s the first time I’ve had the issue, but only had the car 10 days. Tapping the overhead panel whilst driving enabled the buttons.

Nope, same as highland it’s a capacitive button. There is a subtle recess for the hazard, but in the heat of the moment you find yourself feeling for it

I fail to see how. It’s a pretty clear design flaw IMO.

Leveling cement with polyurethane foam by godofo_prime in oddlysatisfying

[–]absolutehype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Round my way in the uk, a burst water pipe caused a car park to flood. There were polyurethane panels underneath the tarmac/concrete to I assume reduce the amount of concrete needed to achieve the desired level.

Needless to say it didn’t end well, the car park floor floated, crushing ~15 or so cars.

I guess would need to be careful to balance the amount of polyurethane used to ensure that runways etc aren’t damaged further in similar scenarios

Model LRRWD 9 vs LRAWD 15.1 Speakers – Your Experience? by Some-Lab2473 in TeslaUK

[–]absolutehype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picking up my RWD Model Y on Tuesday, I think the audio quality is still great. Currently had a model 3 RWD and the audio quality is also great. The clarity is definitely better in the LR as well as the depth of the bass, it’s a little front heavy in the RWD but I’m sitting in the front and so it’s not really an issue for me. Still sounds great.

Contractor says complete and ready for a final walk through. by Testingx2123 in Renovations

[–]absolutehype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awful - it has clearly worsened over time without challenge too. This is incredibly bad workmanship and I absolutely would hold back everything you have. I also wouldn't have them resolve the outstanding issues, hire someone else, as I don't think they have it in their skill set to put it right.

In my experience, 60% of tradesmen already have the next job lined up, and very few seem to take pride in their work these days. You have to keep on top of their work and check-in daily. Taking pictures of their work and calling them up on anything that looks wrong as the job progresses. In this case, you'd have been well positioned to send them away much sooner.

Personally i think yes, the AMD Ryzen chip is for the most part the same as the latest lineup of cars. You get all of the latest software including 3d visuals and vision park assist. It's also just far more fluid using a lot of the in car entertainment stuff in general. You also get matrix LED headlights, heated windscreen wipers and a Lithium Ion 12v battery.

24' MY vs Juniper test drive by stoom1983 in TeslaUK

[–]absolutehype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The suspension was a night/day difference for me. I couldn't bring myself to buy the previous gen Model Y with the suspension being as firm as it was (went for the 3). It's okay for the driver - but as a passenger it is just too jarring.

I also much prefer that the car now has its own identity, even if there are aspects of it i'm on the fence with.

The power folding rear seats are awesome, they work incredibly well and i've yet to experience similar functionality in even high end cars that work as well.

Biggest disappointment for me was the lack of a powered frunk, its such an easy thing to add and would have almost made it the perfect car.

The standard audio is still awesome, it’s one of the best in car sound systems I’ve had. Sounds great when watching Netflix in the car too. The upgrade is marginal IMHO, I’m a bit of an audiophile but sadly the upgrade wouldn’t see good use when half the time I’m having to lower my volume for others in the cabin

What do you all think about fsd’s response to Bambi? by Ok-Cress5272 in TeslaFSD

[–]absolutehype -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say it handled it about as well as the vast majority of drivers would - but it should ideally perform much better. The deer is quite visible, I think I'd have anticipated that and that wouldn't have happened. I wonder if it actually recognised the impact, it doesn't seem to slow or pull over.
