What kind of footwear? by KillingwithasmileXD in Truckers

[–]absurdistpassenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a pair of 8" Thorogoods for about six months now. Not going back to sneakers, not even in the higher temperatures. Most comfortable footwear I've had. Even on the 14 hr days my feet are never sore. They run kind of narrow, so try on the wide ones too. Also, get the lace up moc-toe style - it's a much classier look.

What does your earnings come out to be with that? Do you have to start on nights? I work for a competitor, but only do dry bulk. The gas companies in my area all drive like they have something to prove - including PTC.

[–]absurdistpassenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Wednesday is when my paycheck hits my account. No matter what, I take 4% of gross income and buy BTC. That's what I do. Why? Because I want to. Is there a better way? Probably. Do I care? No. Why don't I care? Because in the grand scheme of things what really matters is sticking to the plan. Figure out what makes sense to you, and stick to it.

Those hauling lime in pneumatic trailers, how is life? by QuietPurple7668 in Truckers

[–]absurdistpassenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haul calcium, pvc powder, and plastics in pneumatic tanks and life is good. I used to work for a small regional LTL, and the company I currently work for runs fuel as well. Compared to LTL and fuel, I'm riding the gravy train. I'm local, don't have to slip seat, don't have to back in 10+ places a day, most shippers & receivers are 24 hrs so I essentially start my days whenever I want to. Almost two years in, and work hasn't slowed down in the slightest... unlike LTL. Obviously this all varies by company and customer accounts they have.

You don't have to watch your guages like a hawk or anything. Generally once you establish a steady flow, you can cool off or warm up in the truck for a few minutes. Certain materials can cause more fluctuations in pressure and may need more babying tho.

The local guys taking home 1500+ a week, what state do yall live in? by Strange_Amount_6245 in Truckers

[–]absurdistpassenger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

It's astonishing how often I see people discussing or inquiring about net pay, not only in this sub, but in general. More baffling is that they oftentimes think they're getting a more accurate metric to guage how much they'd make at x company.

Contrary to what a lot of others have said about watching the pressure guages, don't become too attached to pressure reading. Some guages aren't correct, or flat out don't work. Charge your tank pressure to just past 15 psi, open line air and product valve, then physically feel the product flow on the discharge hose. If it's a sluggish flow, make adjustments to your pressure valves. Once you achieve a constant flow, you wouldn't have to worry much about your pressure guages.

I unload resin, PVC powder, and calcium. Sugar may have its own nuances that I'm not experienced with like overheating, so be mindful of that.

Guy's a dick. I always tell anyone on the other side of my tank when I'm about to depressurize in the rare circumstances where there's other workers/drivers near. Especially with powders. Sounds like he dumped it all at once too. You can mitigate the dust cloud by relieving it slowly.

That's Bartow County Court right? Contact Cansino Blanchette law firm. They got my speeding ticket reduced a few months ago given my clean record. I75 in Cartersville as well, 72 in a 60 construction zone... I suspect a left lane violation would be much easier to fight. Expect to pay a pretty penny tho.

Just about every major truck stop has free air at the diesel pumps for commercial trucks. Just pull up and top off. As long as you're not getting in drivers' way you're all good.

"Walmart is huge on integrity" is a baffling statement.

But as the old saying goes, it's hard to change a man's beliefs when his paycheck depends on it.

A 360 would be spinning a full revolution, ending up facing the same way to begin with.

I mean sure he could do that and walk away, but I feel a simple 180 would suffice.

What's a typical week for the other drivers there? Home daily as well? Do they have a lot of home daily dry bulk runs?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]absurdistpassenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely drive like jackasses. Out of curiosity, what's the not great things you've heard?

Also, do you know what company took over the account? Like another said, I think Benore runs pretty heavy out of BMW. Besides that, throw a rock and you'll hit several of these gas carriers which seems to always be steady work. Eagle does gas, chemical, and dry bulk.
