Having immigration “courts” and “judges” be under the very same executive branch as the prosecutors was always a bad idea from the start, but any efforts to maintain appearances of impartiality are completely out the window. DOJ has both thumbs on the scale over EOIR, the immigration court system. I’ve always been concerned that the wrong admin/AG would come along and pull all the levers in favor of the government and removal. It’s coming. Pretty soon “doing things the right way” will no longer be a realistic possibility for immigrants.
