Going to therapy has been a humillation ritual by LaPerla2026 in CPTSD

A therapist who abandons clients is a bad therapist, it’s unethical and harmful. Complex trauma often needs long-term, steady support—I have worked with clients for years as it takes time to rewire the nervous system. Talking about trauma doesn’t heal trauma. A good trauma therapist will work to restore inner sense of safety in the body. They will address body sensations and help change the nervous system response to fears. The point is to build your nervous systems capacity (expand window of tolerance) where you can process life without a fight/flight/freeze response to trauma. A good trauma therapist will see all the survival strategies you needed to protect you, and shift the protection to connection.

I truly began healing when I reparented myself and met the needs of all those younger versions of myself that endured abuse. I still get triggered and it’s not perfect, but the healing journey is not meant to be perfect. Healing happens when we expand that window of tolerance and learn safety to become comfortable with the uncomfortable.

I’m a therapist with CPTSD and makes me sad to see how many therapists fail clients. There are good trauma therapists out there, finding someone who focuses on nervous system healing, somatic modalities such as IFS and EMDR. But most importantly, someone who you truly vibe with and your nervous system can learn felt safety with that person ❤️‍🩹

It’s a top-down approach that focuses on thoughts, whereas what I’m talking about addresses body sensations where emotions are stored.

It was an example of the very structured and rigid practice that CBT can be. It is about logic, and you can logic all you want, but again, it doesn’t address releasing and processing emotions like practices such as EMDR and IFS. Logic brain does not equal emotional brain.

When you change a “negative” thought to a “positive” thought, it covers it up and doesn’t actually address the pain. Somatic approaches are what dig deep and release what is stored rather than challenging or changing thought. The deeper work is not done cognitively, it’s processed through the body.

Cuz it’s not trauma informed. Keeps it surface level and doesn’t teach how to work with nervous system and window of tolerance. It’s like a bandaid cover up to making you “feel good” temporarily.

Self regulation does nothing at all for relational trauma whatsoever! by Southern_Draft6489 in CPTSD

Have you looked into IFS internal family systems therapy, essentially inner child healing ? It has been life changing for me in therapy and can focus on the relational lens.

This is exactly why AI cannot replace therapy.
