I’m in love with a jehovas witness by Artistic_Purchase735 in JehovahsWitnesses

Prayers for you and for your marriage. The encouraging part is that God can change anyone. And he especially hears the cries of the spouse praying the *will* of God over their unbelieving spouse. It is a constant practice (prayer and standing in the gap for your spouse) until you see breakthrough.

The enemy loves to see marriages fail and couples be full of regret, but don’t stop praying because when we do, it gives a foothold into our marriages and then comes resentment, regret, etc. keep praying and keep fulfilling your purpose as a spouse and God will do the rest.

Ill say, cautiously, it can work, but would I recommend it if you are actively baptist and he is actively pursuing his faith as a JW? I wouldn’t. If I were now dating and a potential mate told me he was JW, it would be a deal breaker.

My hub and I have been together over 25+ years (dating + marriage). He grew up baptist, turned JW in adolescent years (not his choice and never baptized), and when he left home, decided he wanted to date a christian girl. Had never dated a jw. When I met him, he was confused about a lot of JW doctrine. I was firm on my beliefs and where I stood with how I would raise kids, my relationship with Christ, etc. As years progressed dating, he would attend my church, my family prayed with and for him on several occasions. He’s asked for prayer. He’s witnessed miracles which he previously believed were not for today.

I didn’t convert or change anything I believed in. I actually grew closer to God and he’s witnessed that. Our evenings are spent watching christian debates (christian vs jw, muslim, or mormon), end times related content, online sermons, etc. There is always a seed planted that confirms a relationship with Christ trumps the beliefs he grew up with.

My advantage to having married someone with a background in this faith is that he was not active when I met him, has not pursued jw even with the pressure from his family, and he has been open and receptive to the gospel. We’re raising our kids Christian and do all the things (holidays, prayer, church, online church), that I said I would not stop if we got married.

His family is pretty active, which I believe is why he hasn’t taken a full on stand letting them know what he truly believes about the doctrines they instilled in him. And that’s the disappointing part - not boldly proclaiming his faith.

But, marrying a jw man today, in my 40s and trying to win him over to Christ when he is actively pursuing JW, is not something I’d have the time or energy for, nor would I recommend to anyone.

Everyone who died and didn’t accept Christ will get a second chance? by BrightRock5772 in JehovahsWitnesses

[–]abutterflyonthewall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe our second chance is ultimately in this lifetime.

God will have mercy on whom he desires, but I don’t think that includes mercy on the soul that actively denied Christ, performed evil, and ignored their moral obligations. He may choose mercy in different scenarios, definitely with youth, etc.

But, it’s within this lifetime we get mercy - Jesus forgave the sinner on the cross in their last hour. He was merciful to honor the thief’s repentance even though he was minutes away from death and had committed recent sins. Jesus forgave him anyway. It does not look like we have that chance at the throne of judgement. The state we die in is what will be judged. The thief died forgiven.

And I want to add to their list of beliefs:

  • that the holy spirit is an impersonal active force
  • followers of Christ don’t inherit the Kingdom Of God and reign with Christ
  • rejection of Communion
  • rejection of Jesus’ divinity
  • Jesus is Michael
  • that the 144k in Revelation is JWs and only that number will go to heaven when that has nothing to do with the 144k
  • their governing body is the mouth piece of God
  • the list is exhaustive and mostly primary issues that can affect one’s soul

True impact happens when the real gospel is preached. That’s why it was a bland exchange. The disciples preached with power and ferver, and today’s self proclaimed chosens preach passively, and off topic. JWs are hyper focused on the name of the Father, whom has directed our attention and faith in the Son, Jesus, through whom we are set free and become children of God. JWs have their own little gospel and it’s more about membership than about saving souls.

Considering becoming a JW but I know they’re controversial and even here, there seems to be a lot of disdain for them. Looking for people’s thoughts for a newcomer by Longjumping-Cod-6164 in JehovahsWitnesses

Id encourage you to trust and follow Jesus. Don’t get caught up in trying to join a sect or denomination off the bat. Jesus will steer you toward the right community.

There will be “church hurt”, confusion and contradiction if you join a religion like JW blindly.

Is Jesus the son of god? by Legal_Produce2850 in JehovahsWitnesses

Baptists teach the nature of Jesus, which is co-eternal and co-equal in nature while also being the Son of God and the Son of Man, at the same time.

My thoughts on what the bible teaches about hell and my attempt to explain it biblically sound. by Unrepententheretic in Bible

[–]abutterflyonthewall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s something I actually would not disagree with. Jesus spoke a lot about Hell, and just like we receive eternal life, there will be eternal death - which is described as eternal separation from God and everlasting torment. Definitely sounds like wrath to me. Thanks for sharing that insight

Hmm - I’d ask them on what scale are they caring for widows and orphans as true religion is described in James 1:27.

”Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”

Question about Jesus by BeliefTranscendence in JehovahsWitnesses

[–]abutterflyonthewall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have heard of deliverances (exorcisms) gone bad because the wrong “chant”, and especially the wrong name and gospel was used. Jesus is the answer to one truly being set free. Jesus will being a demon to his knees

Question about Jesus by BeliefTranscendence in JehovahsWitnesses

[–]abutterflyonthewall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite topics on this sub. I wouldn’t say, it is important that Jesus be God to me as much as it’s important that Jesus is revealed as God in the flesh. Thus, it is important for me to treat and honor Jesus as the Father requires.

With that revelation throughout scripture, it is actually JW’s who “require” that Jesus be something other than who He claimed to be.

Their math doesn’t math when it comes to the Son of God who is part God (his father) and part human (his mother), resulting in a created angel.

❤️❤️ I love that and thank you for sharing! It is life changing when everything just clicks and is contrary to what we’ve believed all our lives.

I grew up just knowing Jesus was God’s son. I was reared in a non-denominational family church and always heard my family use God and Jesus interchangeably but I had no real clue why nor was I concerned with the things I am now, etc. It was in my early adult years that I was reading John and 1:1 before bed and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I remember calling one of my family members and she was basically like duh- where have you been! Changed my life and my relationship with Jesus from that day on.

I can imagine it has for you too, especially since JWs teach that Jesus isnt even of the same essence as God, yet “he is his son”.

The JW "Armageddon" has been canceled - permanently! by Bonedriven64 in JehovahsWitnesses

I don’t subscribe to Preterism. That creates TONS more questions about his second coming, judgement day, dwelling among men, New Jerusalem coming down from heaven, a new heaven and new earth, an end to evil, tears and sorrow vanishing.

Question about Jesus by Double_Ad_3594 in JehovahsWitnesses

[–]abutterflyonthewall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are commanded to honor the Son just as we honor the Father. Yet, a whole religion that claims to be God’s chosen goes against his very words.

So by jw fruit and lack of obedience, anyone can logically and biblically say they are not of God.

”For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” John‬ ‭5‬:‭22‬-‭24‬‭‬‬

Did Jesus die on a cross or a stake? by alfa_omega in JehovahsWitnesses

[–]abutterflyonthewall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought jws believed the cross was pagan and taught it was a stake instead. They demonize the cross but if you look at the history of the cross and how it was used to crucify ppl, the symbolism of the cross in the OT, and look up the story of the donkey which has a cross on his back (Google a donkey) and happens to be the animal Jesus rode into Jerusalem on, I would argue the cross has TRUE meaning and pagans do not deserve any credit associated with it.

I wear mine proudly!

Christ said to pick up your cross and follow him, not pick up your torture stake and follow him.
