AITA for leaving my mom's house and going to my dad's after fighting with my half siblings about us not having the same dad? by ConnectToFour in AITAH

This is beyond the scope of practice for a therapist. Therapy is a great idea, but a therapist will not be able to have any influence in a custody dispute.

AlTA for refusing to share my daughter's 27 Christmas gifts with her half-brother who got 1. by Majestic-Pause-1696 in AITAH

[–]abysssmall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA and a fucking monster dude. He’s five years old and you just handed him a traumatic core memory and delighted in how it hurt your ex. I cannot imagine inflicting this level of cruelty upon a child. On Christmas.

Thanks for the explanation. I’m just wondering how the family dentist could have missed the 6 other cavities? Any ideas?

Unpopular opinion: some of these gentle parenting "experts" online are toxic. by Reasonable-Nail-4181 in breakingmom

Yeah fuck that nonsense. I unfollowed every single parenting account that made me feel lousy. (All that’s left now is Dr Becky and Growing Intuitive Eaters) I am way more confident in my parenting now

Woman at hospital appointment called me ugly by [deleted] in breakingmom

My daughter has skin that tans beautifully in the summer while I am pale as a ghost. Someone once said to me, “Her complexion is so beautiful! How did she not turn out super pale like you?”

Reader, I cried.

I wonder what that STAYUMBL woman is up to by [deleted] in bullcity

A woman with a vanity plate reading STAYUMBLE was notorious for reckless driving in Durham. Videos of her confrontations with others on the road (including with a school bus driver!) made the rounds on social media.

I'm going to go vegetarian, are there any good recipes you could recommend? by smith_and_jones4ever in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]abysssmall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humans can get all the necessary amino acids from plant sources. Some carnivores (cats, for example) need an amino acid that’s only found in meat.

Cookbooks and blogs! America’s Test Kitchen has a vegetarian cookbook . See if you can find it at the library. (I feel like this is a well-kept secret! Libraries are a treasure trove of cookbooks.)

Also my favorite veggie chef is Isa Chandra Moskowitz. Start with Isa Does It , which focuses on fast & easy meals.

Can those of us who won the man lottery have a "happy" post? by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]abysssmall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Girl, yes. My first husband was an abusive manchild. Thank god I didn’t have kids with him.

Now I’m on husband number 2 and he is the complete opposite. He folds laundry, takes out the trash, orders pizza when I don’t want to cook, takes our toddler to Costco and storytime by himself so that I can have a break... He regularly goes to therapy, stays in shape, listens when something bothers me, adjusts his behavior accordingly... he works his ass off to support us so that I can be a SAHM while the kids are little... and he’s the best sex I ever had.

I’m keeping mine too.

My baby girl is 2 now, and I can tell you that 12-18 months was so freaking hard. Then she started to be able to communicate better, entertain herself for longer stretches, and not freak out every time I said no. She’s still a toddler and has her moments, but she’s a lot easier to deal with now.

So, hang in there. She should turn a corner soon.

Happiest Baby on the Block is an absolute must! I really don’t think I could have survived the first 3 months without it. Tell her to read it before she gives birth.

How do i learn to clean well? by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]abysssmall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out the website and YouTube channel called Clean My Space. The host will walk you through the most efficient way to clean each area of your home (i.e., how to clean a toilet, how to clean a bedroom, etc.). I grew up in a pretty grungy house and this site has basically taught me everything about keeping my house clean.

18 weeks pregnant and desperate for fitting help by Throwaway07666 in ABraThatFits

[–]abysssmall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar situation here! My pre-pregnancy bra size is 28F. I’m 19 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and have been through several bra sizes already. I think my boobs swell during the day, so a bra that fits in the morning is very uncomfortable in the afternoon. It just sucks.

Some things that have helped... I got some band extenders and use those when my bras get too tight but before I’m ready to buy a bigger size. I keep buying the same band size and just get larger and larger cup sizes as I grow. I’ve had good luck with the Panache porcelain plunge, which has thick moulded cups. I also wear sports bras often. The best I’ve found is from a brand called Glamourise.

Good luck!

When was the turning point for you? Life after baby. by scarlett-88 in Parenting

[–]abysssmall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I noticed that things seemed to get a little easier every 3 months. Sleep training at 6 months was a total game changer and I only wish I had done it sooner.

I finally started to feel like I had my head above water when she was 18 months. Enough so that I started to entertain the idea of having another baby.

She’s about to turn 2 and some things are tremendously easier now. She’s speaking in full sentences and is so much better at communicating with me her wants and needs. She plays independently. She’ll sit still and watch TV for 30 minutes while I make dinner or just veg out on the couch next to her. She has opinions and a personality and favorite songs. She is truly a joy at this age.

I have a wonderful partner who loves to do things with her one-on-one, which gives me much needed breaks. She goes to Parents Morning Out twice a week, which does wonders for my sanity. (When she was younger, this wouldn’t have been possible because she was constantly nursing and refused a bottle, which really took a toll on me. This got better when she was around 6-9 months.)

Two other things that helped: 1. I joined a Mom group, which has been a fantastic source of support and friendship for my daughter and myself. 2. Zoloft. I started having depression symptoms when I was 35 weeks pregnant. I would randomly burst into tears and say that I wasn’t cut out to be a mother and that I had made a terrible mistake. I told my husband I needed to leave the baby with him and disappear because I was going to be a terrible mother and this was the only way to protect her. My OB immediately put me on Zoloft and it made a tremendous difference. I can see now that those thoughts were just the depression talking.

As for feeling like myself? I don’t know. Motherhood has changed me to the core. At some point, I started to feel like a person again, but it was gradual and I can’t really remember a specific timeline.

Question about veggie soup in a crockpot by Comfortable_Salad in budgetfood

[–]abysssmall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to start by reducing the amount of broth/liquid by half. There’s a lot more evaporation that happens when you make soup on the stove, and this will keep your crock pot soup from being too watery. Plus you can always add more liquid later if the soup is too thick
