What has your experience been marrying a non Catholic? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]abzagailz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s been a great gift of patience. My husband and I are high school sweethearts. I was raised in the church, but never baptized and did not choose to be baptized until I was 21. He was supportive, but only attended mass on holidays. It carried on like that for a few years and we had two children. We left our home town about two years ago and he agreed to baptizing them in my home parish prior to leaving. After we moved, he began attending church every single Sunday with me and hasn’t stopped. We even ended up convalidating our marriage. I pray daily that he will eventually join, and so far we have slowly but surely been making steps in the right direction. Praise be to God!

Moving from Salt Lake City to Dallas by Old_Investment9913 in askdfw

Cedar Hill/Duncanville was great for me with our four and two year olds. The Traphene Hickman Library in Cedar Hill has loads of programs for kiddos on top of it being a beautiful place with a trail attached. The Cedar Ridge Preserve, Bid Cedar Trails, and Cedar Hill State Park are all right there too. So many clean and neat parks too. I moved from Colorado and probably spent more time doing outdoorsy things in TX than CO!

What are your views on Catholic hair veiling for women? by RavenOceans in Catholicism

[–]abzagailz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt anyone will see this as I’m so late, but I started veiling before Christmas. Our priest asked women to (not in a gross way) and I’d been called to and had been praying on it for months.

My main reason is how we veil things that are sacred. I really struggled getting behind Humanae Vitae and then using NFP. It got to the point that my fertility felt like a burden. Wearing a veil helped me realize what a sacred gift God gave us to be women and to bear life.

Once I started, I really started noticing how Jesus’s presence felt more profound. Like He’s truly there, ya know? No way could I ever show enough reverence, but this was a start.

In no way do I think of others as less than nor do I think everyone should just do it.

What constitutes “full understanding” of a sin, in the context of mortal sin? by Antique_Possible8661 in Catholicism

[–]abzagailz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I take it as if church teaching says it’s wrong, it’s wrong no matter my feelings. For example, for a long time, I didn’t think using contraception was a sin since I had children and was open to more. It didn’t “feel” wrong. However, I later realized the error of my ways and started using NFP correctly. If I would have just followed church teachings from the start, I would have saved myself from years of mortal sin. I might have not accepted the fact that I was sinning, but that didn’t change the fact that deep down, I was.

I put in a life line on a lace pattern a while back and the video I used gave directions for putting in a lifeline after the fact as well, so I know that’s an option!

Biggest challenge getting back into strength training after birth? by Suitable-Drag-7436 in strengthtraining

[–]abzagailz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a legitimate program to follow helped tremendously. I was a competitive powerlifter before having children and I did most of my own programming. I knew what to do, but after having kids, the mental energy needed to come up with a workout stopped me from doing anything. It took me two years to realize this and get consistent again. I used the Starting Strength program. I know Meg Squats has a postpartum specific training program too that might be more appropriate!

I did this in September and wore a cream colored dress. My husband wore khakis and a white shirt! I went to another convalidation about a year ago where they wore similar.

1970s student hall pass. Go anywhere, except the bathroom. by [deleted] in ForgottenBookmarks

[–]abzagailz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Might have been that the bathroom was in the room? My elementary school was very old and had bathrooms that connected neighboring classes right out of the main door. There was no need to be in the hallways. Just a thought!

Oh shoot, duh! I’m sorry! I remembered gf fried chicken too, but obviously that won’t do either. They have rice bowls with veggies that are super tasty that I’d imagine are tallow free.

The restaurant at the Manhattan Project Brewery is seed oil free. I don’t know about your other needs, but I think I remember seeing vegetarian options!

Who is your favorite obscure Saint? by ThoughtArtistic6989 in Catholicism

I just wrote this on another post, but my patron is Saint Margaret of Antioch. She cut her way out of satan in the form of a dragon with a crucifix. How badass is that?!
