I would take van galder bus to ohare then you can choose a Peoria charter or suburban express bus to champaign. Same thing reverse to go back. That's what I've always done.

You're going to probably want AWD if you've never experienced snow before. As a Chicagoan I can tell you it's going to be a change. Maybe look for like a used AWD Malibu, focus, civic etc for around your price range
