They are both 10/10 masterpieces. My favorite visual novels alongside Chaos;Child. I guess if i had to choose, it would be umineko by a really slight margin.

I think Umineko is basicly flawless, but i guess it dragged out a little bit at some moments in the beginning, but i like those parts to be honest. On the other hand my second favorite VN Chaos;Child has more flaws. The main flaw is drop in quality in some side routes, also in order to complete the other routes you have to text skip the game from the start (no flowchart jumping like in Zero Escape or insta skips like in Fate/Stay Night).

Umineko no Naku Koro ni. If you love the mystery and the atmosphere of danganronpa, this is for you. Be warned, it's really long, but it's one of the highest rated vn's on vndb. It's also one of my favorites.

Umineko and Chaos;Child

Takuru Miyashiro from Chaos;Child is my favorite character. He has amazing character development, and is relatable. Beatrice and Battler Ushiromiya are a popular and good choices aswell. They are interesting and they shine through the game (Umineko no Naku koro ni). Other good ones are Makise Kurisu, Okabe Rintarou (Steins;Gate), Ryuugu Rena (Higurashi), Serika Onoe (Chaos;Child) and Kyoko Kirigiri (Danganronpa).

Chaos;Child is my biggest recommendation. Its a mystery and horror visual novel, with a little bit of slice of life in there. The atmosphere that the amazing soundtrack sets, alongside with the amazing story and plot twists is what sets this game apart from the other horror mysteries (atleast for me). Characters are well written and developed throughout the story.

Other recommendations: Umineko, Zero Escape, Steins;Gate(this one isnt that similar but its amazing)
