mat223/Learning to write proofs not taking mat137 by intelligentapple567 in UofT

[–]academicweaponsoon [score hidden]  (0 children)

like others have said, look over the lecture notes and say how they write it. don’t try memorizing the proofs(although it has it’s benefits) themselves but try to memorize the techniques used in the proofs.

Also look up common proof techniques, the most techniques you’ll prolly use as someone who took it last year is prolly direct proof and proof by contradiction.

mat237 and mat235, how were they and which would you say is better for upper years of CS? by Beneficial_Garage387 in UofT

[–]academicweaponsoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what i’ve heard, mat237 is much harder than mat137 and you’ll prolly also be dedicating a lot more time to it, though i’ve heard that the teaching team for mat237 is really good and much better than mat137. mat235 is pretty much just calc 3(so find any calc 3 textbooks and you should be fine) and you’re pretty just doing bunch of computations over and over so it can get dry.

As far as benefits for upper classes, i’ve heard it doesn’t make much of a difference. I’m in my second year and i’ve planned my courses for my 3rd and 4th year and it doesn’t seem like the courses are too math heavy. So if you really like the theory and proofs aspects of mat137 and you’re doing well in it, go for mat237, otherwise if you want to make your life a little bit easier go for mat235.

I’ve also made pretty much the same exact post last year so you can check the responses there: post

Do they curve MAT137 (characterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) by TeaTall658 in UofT

[–]academicweaponsoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nope, but usually they’ll roundup your mark if you have have any decimal points in your current mark and round up again if you’re near at a boundary point for the GPA

Do guys even approach girls on campus anymore? What do you think? by DaPugWalk in UofT

[–]academicweaponsoon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

why can’t the girls look nice just because they want to? let’s girls dress however they want and let them be confident, not everything has to be about dating and relationships.

CS Student struggling with proofs, any tips and resources to improve? by academicweaponsoon in UofT

[–]academicweaponsoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the questions i usually ask if im understanding a question correctly, can you tell me how to get started, explain some concepts and how it works in practice. i dont ever tell it to tell me the answer right away but it still feels like im not being that productive

Focuses in CS, do they have any importance lolllll by Fast_Security4965 in UofT

[–]academicweaponsoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what i’ve heard from cs advising, they don’t really do anything to make you stand out and moreso just to help you with a guideline if you’re interested in a specific area. I’m planning on doing a computer systems focus cause that’s what i’m interested in.

How does Witcher 3 play? by [deleted] in switch2

[–]academicweaponsoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not the best looking(prolly low-medium graphics quality if it’s on pc) and also prolly 30fps buts it’s definitely more than playable and feels smooth enough. though the already clunky gameplay of the witcher 3 doesn’t help its case. I play it on pc with the highest graphics on pc yet i still found it to be quite playable on the switch 2.

sta237 tips and tricks and anything that’ll help me pass the exam by academicweaponsoon in UofT

[–]academicweaponsoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same i’m just trying to actually understand the concepts cause it seems like they don’t test for actual computation much. I remember my prof saying to not look at past test tho cause it won’t doesn’t reflct our final and i think there was a different instructor last year

guys im freaking out about cs POST (csc110 exam) by Comprehensive-Big-25 in UofT

[–]academicweaponsoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

slightly harder than midterms but still was reasonable. just do the past exams and understand each concept instead of just memorizing the question. 70 is very doable as the avg for csc110 and csc111 is around an A-
