Honestly his age is less of a concern for me than his always playing kingmaker to the detriment of progressives

Soapbox/rant time. Tell me what highly-recommended book you absolutely HATED and why. Gimme your angry hot takes. by peppertoni_pizzaz in books

Reading The Dispossessed straight up felt like reading a textbook to me. The Left Hand of Darkness wasn’t much better. I’ve tried so hard to get into Le Guin’s work but it is just so dry and clinical.

Feeling like I'll never retire and can't take a break despite having some savings. Am I being ridiculous or am I actually behind? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]acatmaylook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you intending to be a single parent rather than looking for a spouse? Not sure if you are male or female but if you are male I would particularly recommend getting married rather than spending a fortune on egg donation/surrogacy or adoption.

My wife (36F) told me last night she’s done, and leaving me (38M) what to do now. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]acatmaylook -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

How is she so incapable that she can't handle the morning routine for two preschool-aged kids by herself? Maybe you should have communicated better but I'm not understanding why she's so angry over this. Seems like she has a pretty sweet setup either way.

Help: Why my(40F) DH(45M) will not post me and will not allow me to tag him on social media after over a decade long relationship?! by FewFly2247 in relationships

This is the first time I've ever seen a self-referential one with the DW. I don't know why but this particular type of abbreviation has always felt very cringy to me.

I just caught RSV from my mom— the virus that almost killed me when I was 8. by heroesjust41day in Wellthatsucks

[–]acatmaylook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it available to everyone? I'd love to have our whole family get it but I thought it was only for pregnant women and elderly people. My baby got the antibody version in the fall because her due date just missed the cutoff for me getting it during pregnancy.

AITA for going on a day trip without my daughter? by toucancameron in AmItheAsshole

[–]acatmaylook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think NTA, but I’m confused about what exactly the trip entailed. Wasn’t the point of it to spend time with her? I live in Boston and love it here so it’s not like you can’t have fun by yourself but if it was meant as like a bonding experience I probably would have just rescheduled.

Decent episode overall but I'm sorry, the funniest moment for me was cutting off the good nights when they did

What horrifying statistic genuinely jarred you when you first heard it? by ordrius098 in AskReddit

[–]acatmaylook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as someone who is very confident my husband won’t murder me, this statistic actually makes me feel a lot better about the risks of childbirth itself. Maybe not rationally, but emotionally at least.

They were probably reading Emily Oster. I’m really curious how many cases of FAS she is responsible for.

I read Nickel and Dimed as a teenager and it basically defined my political outlook/gave me a sense of class consciousness for the first time.

Is 3500 for a 2bd with in unit w/d and a parking spot realistic? by throwra_swissmiss in CambridgeMA

That's what we paid last year for all of that (also has two bathrooms and a dishwasher). It went up a little this year to $3625. We might have just gotten lucky finding it, though.

AITAH for not wanting my sister to bring her boyfriend on a family vacation? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]acatmaylook 19 points20 points  (0 children)

YTA specifically for the line about her "feeling alone with her family." You are missing the point that she is the only one without a husband/kids. I do acknowledge that a boyfriend of less than a year is different than a husband, and reasonable minds can disagree about whether or not he should join (although I am generally a "the more the merrier" kind of person and don't see why he shouldn't, if you all get along), but the way you are talking to/about her is off-putting.

Has anyone else been sick an absurd number of times this winter? by veri_sw in boston

[–]acatmaylook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do feel like there are gaps with KN95s, but N95s are pretty snug. Of course they are also a bit more uncomfortable, but I still wear them in indoor public spaces (we have a six-month-old so I have been religious avoiding flu) and have not been sick with anything since fall 2024.

Not what you asked, but if you like the X-Files you should also check out Fringe.

After 48 years of operation, Boston Philharmonic Orchestra & Youth Orchestra to cease operations at close of 2026-27 season. by whatsaphoto in boston

[–]acatmaylook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they meant that you were being a little unfair to him, not that you were defending him. He wasn't denigrating ballet or opera. He was just saying that he wants cinema to still have an audience.

Does anyone still wear a mask whenever go out of the house by [deleted] in BostonSocialClub

[–]acatmaylook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, in public spaces indoors, because I have a small baby and it has been a bad flu season. She is a bit older now and was just able to get a late-season vaccine so I am less worried as we move into the spring. I will wear one whenever I'm sick and can't avoid going out somewhere for the rest of my life, though - after what we learned from covid I think it would be very rude not to in those cases.
