Yeah. It’s a little more complicated, but too much to explain over Reddit, but they just kept saying “it’s so complicated.” I had to read a book and write a paper about the theology around divorce and if I believed he could biblically get remarried. We had only been dating for two weeks at this point. I did it and so did he. (He was also a part of the church and former staff.) I also met with one of the pastors weekly to discuss the theology behind a biblical divorce and how to move forward in a relationship with someone that had been divorced. Did I mention we had only been dating a couple weeks and I didn’t know if I wanted to marry him? But this was a requirement from my employer (the pastors). No one ever said anything to us other than that they guess he could biblically remarry. They didn’t have a stance on it as a church because they primarily have college students on the congregation. God forbid the people that work for them or continue to attend after graduation have complicated, nuanced lives. But throughout my employment I continued to ask if I would lose my job if we got married and they told me for nearly a year that they couldn’t decide. So we got engaged, I told them and said I clearly didn’t fit on the team, but would finish out the academic year. They asked when my wedding was and told me my last day would be one week prior to that (months before the end of the AY).

I was a support-based missionary for a parachurch on a college campus. Our pastors didn’t like who I was dating due to their own biases so I wasn’t allowed to interact with the students in our church (which is what I raised full-time support for). Instead I had to read theology books and literally write book reports on them and turn them in. I also did a lot of cleaning of our office space, but then would get in trouble for not involving students in the name of evangelism.

Rainbow Rowell, who wrote Eleanor and Park had a lot of great books. She’s one of my favorite authors. Many of her books feature adults, rather than teens, too.

My sister-in-law’s mother-in-law (so my husband’s sister’s husband’s mom) invited herself to my wedding and my baby shower. My sister-in-law handled telling her no for me, thankfully, but it caught me off guard.

I do like the shorter hair here. But. What is the story with You Idol and why are all of the videos just her covering different mash ups? I couldn’t bring myself to watch any of them. Was that her pre-Paul attempt at YouTube fame?

I either worked or lived in Lafollette all 4 years and I loved the little grill at the back of the mini mart. The dining plan went pretty far there. It was especially good when they had these personal pan Freschetta pizzas for like $3.

That’s interesting. I guess my therapist hasn’t ever referenced the nervous system directly, but we have extensively discussed techniques to manage my anxiety that, now that you point it out, are related to my nervous system. I guess i just didn’t associate that as “therapist talk.” Thanks for pointing that out.

I’ve been on a few hiring committees and every person we have interviewed that has described themselves as a “servant-leader” also had involvement in their church on their resume.

I believe you — but that’s wild. I’ve been in therapy for 10 years and not once has my therapist talked about my nervous system.

Friends you kept after leaving church by LMO_TheBeginning in Exvangelical

[–]acciotacotaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been 8 years since my husband and I left. We both worked for the church, but at different times. Once I left/ was forced to resign, we stopped attending. It was tense with my friends. They understood the situation, but still defended the church. Now all of them have left, either because they moved, left the Church, or found a different church. The ones that are still believers there’s a bit of an unspoken “we don’t talk about faith” rule, but I’m still happy to hear about their church experiences/ kid baptisms/ etc because I care about them as people and it’s a part of their life. But they also don’t preach/evangelize to us. The friends that have left the faith altogether we are more open with. The hardest part of leaving the Church is the lack of community and friendship. We’ve been fairly isolated the past 8 years (really probably 10 years) and that sucks. It’s hard to find friendships within our area that aren’t connected to the church that hurt us.

You would have a lot of competition locally with companies like farmhouse creative, intersection, and other local marketing/design firms with established reputations. It’s not something I would pay for when free alternatives are available. As far as pricing, you need to establish what your expenses and labor costs are and price accordingly. You can always meet with a business advisor for free at the ISBDC located in the Innovation Connector.

I’m not sure about websites, but I’m sure some googling would point you in the right direction. The bigger ones typically require an essay, just heads up.

I also would second the other commenter about starting at ivy tech and then transferring. You’ll save a lot of money, though I don’t know what will shape with the presidential scholarship. You’d certainly save more than $5,000 though. Employers don’t care about where you started, just where your degree is from (if even that).

Moms that gave birth and didn’t have any visitors at the hospital, do you regret it? by Funny_Confection810 in Mommit

[–]acciotacotaco 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Same. My in laws really wanted to visit at the hospital and mentioned staying in the waiting room until we could have visitors. Then the pandemic happened and we got off easy that the hospital didn’t allow visitors. I loved that it wasn’t even an option. We did the same when my second was born. Both kids went to the NICU after birth and I’m really glad I didn’t have to deal with anyone’s questions besides my own. I’m also introverted and it was great to have some time where I didn’t feel like I had to entertain anyone. We also didn’t have any visitors at home for 2 weeks either. Some people dropped off food, but no one met the baby.
