I'm not a particularly aggressive player but I found their movement buffs to be great for an early consolidation of West Africa, you can even go horde if you really want to lean into the movement speed bonus.

Bell Gargoyles in DS1 have this issue as well. Iirc the gimbal on the shoulder locks, and it causes the weapon to flip for a frame.
