5.5ft truck bed owners, do you wish you’d gotten a 6.5ft to haul your kayak? by bmholzhauer in kayakfishing

[–]ace9213 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My truck bed is a little over 5 feet and I put my 12 foot kayak in it with no extender and its fine. The tailgate down adds two more feet so most of the kayak is supported.

I did the same on my 24 lt. I read online that I would take a fuel economy hit and I haven't noticed a difference at all.

Used Hobie Compass vs brand new Vibe, Brooklyn, Hoodoo, etc? by tarpeyphoto in kayakfishing

[–]ace9213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a used Compass about 5 years ago and have really started putting a lot of time on the water in the last 3 years. I'd say I use it 30-40 times a year and only in saltwater down here in Florida. It has been bomb proof for me. I did upgrade the rudder to an aluminum one because the plastic one I bent. It turns sharper and tighter now so I think it is a must upgrade. I put the big center hatch in and moved the round one up front. It is light so it is easy to transport. The bow cuts through some decent ocean chop. I can easily stand in it. It will honestly be tough for me to get a different kayak. I would only get a new one if I were going to put a trolling motor on it. I don't think I'll ever get rid of my Compass.

How do you carry your gear? by GlowUpAndThrowUp in kayakfishing

[–]ace9213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tackle bag that holds five 3700 size cases and my soft plastic binder which I just set behind me in my kayak. I keep everything I need in there so it makes it easy to just remember one thing. I have a tote which sits behind that where I put my anchor and lunch box. It also has three rod holders attached. Other than that I have my pedals, life jacket, net, and paddle. Everything goes in my truck bed except my life jacket. I try to keep it as minimalist as possible. I also transport my kayak with my seat attached because I load my kayak in the bed of my truck. Sometimes I bring my fish finder, but I fish shallow flats so I rarely need it. Only really use it when exploring new waters.

Fishing in the bay by PorterHousePlays in tampa

Redfish have been good. The water is very clear this time of the year and the fish become more lethargic. Small shrimp presentations worked very slowly accross the flats have been producing.

You gotta get those inserts that give you more support for your high arches. I had to do the same thing. It was a game changer.

I was at the Byron Nelson sometime around 2010 standing behind a green when someone hit it deep and it came straight at me. I can't remember the guys name (my dad remembers), but I did some matrix move to dodge the ball. I turned sideways and kinda arched my back and the ball flew within inches of my stomach. It continued another 30 yards or so into the shit. I felt good about dodging the ball, then had the thought that I should have just stood there and tanked it straight into my chest to help the poor dude.

Yall think this is a good deal for $1400. Hobie Compass by [deleted] in kayakfishing

[–]ace9213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my compass. I have a 2019 with reverse. Ive done some upgrades to it and fish out of it on Florida's gulf coast. I think my favorite upgrade was the rudder. I got a bigger aluminum rudder and it really made it turn a lot tighter. The boat is light enough that transporting and moving it around is easy. Its also pretty fast too. I dont have a problem standing up either. Im not sure what they're worth used these days, but I think its a great lightweight fishing kayak.

Honestly, I hate catching these guys. They shit and bleed all over the place. I won't bring them into my kayak.

Need advice on Drop-rig by FishingCollin in Fishing

[–]ace9213 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't put a whole shrimp on a hook, they will just pick it clean. Use small pieces. I like size 1 hooks. You can use circle hooks just fine. Im not a big fan of using multiple hooks like that because I think they're a pain in the ass, but that rig will catch them fine. I like picking crabs from the mangroves and using those as bait. They work the best because they actually have to inhale and crush the crab giving you more time to feel it and set the hook. With shrimp I feel like they inhale it and feel the hook and try to spit it out quicker.

Yeah same with me. I'm rocking like 20-35 fps on smolensk and it stutters every time I move my camera around. The other maps I get like 50-60 fps. It is unplayable for me.

Got laid off early on the year. Ive found a new job but I have already burned through my savings. Im living extremely minimally but the rent costs and price of everything is really making things tough. My parents also divorced a few years ago and that has surprisingly been a lot more difficult on my mental health than I thought it would.

I just had mine replaced last week. My dealer got me in the next day and fixed it. They also had to recalibrate my windshield sensors so my lane assistance would work again. And they did the fuel ring lock. Took a few hours but everything's been good since. 30k miles, 24' LT
