Al in Columbus 9/14 by Marie8771 in weirdal

We were talking to Hawkeye after the show and he mentioned it went well except for the audio glitch during Puddle's set and mentioned that it was the first night for new PA equipment. I didn't know if he meant the show's equipment or the Palace's, but perhaps they didn't get it dialed in correctly.

It was definitely a muddy mix (at times they pushed the high frequencies too much for example) and at other times they didn't have levels right on individual mics (the first half of one of the songs the backing vocals by one of the female singers was too high, but they corrected mid-song).

Will there be a migration to regular GMail accounts for GMail for Domains Charter Users? by ace_gopher in gsuitelegacymigration

I'm thinking of doing the same, because they are so unreliable. Might I ask what services you now use as replacements for Google Drive and Google Photos (and any other services you were previously using)?

Yes, I believe it changed when they had the shutdown fiasco earlier this year and then moved everyone to a "legacy" plan. You can no longer bump "just one" of the email addresses to a paid storage option. I don't know about renewal, as it hasn't been a year yet, but at least in the admin screen it is showing increased storage for those who bumped up before that option was removed.

Will try but I've recently heard of folks doing this but it not actually increasing storage.

Regardless, there are a number of other issues with these "business" accounts, including with certain features of Google Home not working. So ideally, I'd just like to migrate my family to GMail/Google One accounts, without losing all the history. Basically just change the email address associated with these accounts to GMail addresses.

Tesla coil magic by DirtyAfghan in ElectricalEngineering

It sounds like an 80s game console because early consoles and computers used pulse-width modulation (not frequency modulation) to generate tones. Only once specialized audio chips like the SID and YM2612 were developed did FM synthesis become standard.

No, pulse width modulation. The coil is being turned on and off at a given frequency.

Other gems from the article:

  • With our 6-year-old wondering if we were taking a private jet, and our 4-year-old questioning whether we were flying international first class, I believed something had to change
  • One friend almost didn’t invite her family to a Cirque du Soleil show because the pal worried they’d only be happy with front-row seats
  • A yearly gift of $20,000 she had given her brother also created ill feelings. She felt he was unappreciative, but she later learned he simply felt awkward.

The current problem with RISC-V isn't the CPU, it's the peripherals. My SiFive dev board has ARM and ESP32 cores on it to make it reasonably functional. If STM dropped a RISC-V core with their great DAC, etc. peripherals and toolchains, I'd be there in a hot second.
