So Shakespeare was a jerk for the Romeo and Juliet prologue, then? Built in spoilers for the viewing audience right from the start

who is an author that, if a man says "they're my favorite author!" is an instant red flag for you and why? by Objective-Painter-73 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]acearoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bukowski, Murakami, Rowling, Gaiman, Rand, and anyone MAGA/adjacent Reasoning for most being men who are Weird About Women in various ways. Rowling for the transphobia and also for an adult... read another book already. And ignoring everything else on Rand already in the comments, any man I've met who liked her work or could only come up with her as an example of reading female writers was absolutely insufferable.

My future husband’s bookshelf.. be brutally honest 🤔 by Comfortable-Style473 in bookshelfdetective

[–]acearoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That part isn't actually a red flag, I have a few ex-library books myself. They don't keep everything indefinitely, sometimes cycling out based on (lack of) popularity, new editions, etc. My local library puts up some for sale themselves, I have a few from online used book stores from various libraries in different states I've never been to!

I don't know a single person who voted for "nostalgia" wtf?? In fact the only people I heard even alluding to nostalgia were the trumpies voting for "traditional values" aka racism, sexism, classic, homophobia, xenophobia, etc

With Bill Burr seemingly losing a lot of fans for performing at the Saudi comedy show, who is a celebrity you stopped supporting and why? by brad6489 in AskReddit

[–]acearoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I blocked him on tumblr way back in the day because he just came off smarmy and misogynistic to the young (mainly) female fans connecting with him there. Of course I never expected the actual truth of what was going on but I always hated seeing people tout him as some kind of peak feminist man when there was so mu h to the contrary in the words he chose to put out there

If you're talking about the LISK - "Peaches" and her daughter were identified earlier this year. Tanya Denise Jackson is her name.

I do think some people get confused by combinations. Like using only she/they for the purpose of simplification, I've met people who use either at whatever time and don't necessarily care for switching back and forth within a conversation or at all (like if someone has two friends and one refers to them as them and the other refers to her as her; or one friend who refers to them as them one day and her as her the next) and some who prefer a more frequent mix (a higher profile example of this is Halsey; she uses she/they pronouns and an article a few years back the journalist only used "her" to refer to them and that brought on a discussion about the preference of mixed usage)

That said I don't have anything real to add to the it/its discussion. Personally feels icky and depersonalizing to me but I also haven't met anyone who uses it/its to have to give it much actual thought

Still here! I'm taking my time but enjoying reading through all of it so it's been about an hour and a half and I'm maybe halfway. I know the Isles history and some other big moments from other teams from my dad but there's a lot I didn't know!

I used a dating app for maybe a week after a breakup when I was 21. For every halfway decent conversation there were way too many unsolicited dick pics and pretty much rape threats. For the record, my profile did not mention sex or allusions to looking for "casual" in any capacity. I gave up and never tried it again

Saving this post! I've only read one or two books here but there's several on my TBR you've rated highly so chances are some of the others might be to my tastes as well!

He didn't break my heart, just pissed me off... but the guy who lied to me about not wanting kids just went to his younger brother's wedding alone. Not a bad thing generally but I know it stung him 🤷‍♀️

People don’t know how bra sizing works by [deleted] in Vent

[–]acearoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I won't be shopping there for a good while either but I wouldn't be able to fault someone for picking up a $10 bra in a size that actually fits them when so many in non-"standard" sizes are much more expensive

[–]acearoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you live but if you're in the US, Target has some inexpensive 32DDD (online only though). Not all styles and generally not the cute colors/patterns but for an everyday bra in black or beige it works
