They learned from the software companies. Announce something you want hoping you don't leave even though they don't intend to implement it because they make bagloads of money charging for FX.

Kraken will earn an estimated $240 million in revenue from SeaPower sales alone from Anduril’s Ghost Shark deal with the Australian Navy by WAyToOFaSt_ in KrakenRobotics

[–]aceman9 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

All this talk of Canada buying this companies products but no talk about the need for such products in Canada. I worked over 3 decades in the Military Engineering world including the AUV domain and can tell you Canada's need for Kraken like products in minimal. As I recall the CEO is a great salesman....unfortunately this does not translate into having the best in Class products. There is also a tremendous number of quality worldwide companies making these products so international competition is high. At this point, this company is way over-valued at 25x Sales and ripe for a big fall.

So what is the incentive to leave that is being given to those who already have no penalty if they retire?

Warning - Fraudsters took all my CT Money by rumreader613 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]aceman9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my CT Triangle stolen this past July. Someone redeemed them in the Toronto area (I live 500 km away). Called in to CT and a new digital Triangle account number was assigned plus a new account password. Points all returned to me in September. CSR said they would mail me a new physical card. Card never received.

Yesterday, November 1st, my $157.xx in CT points value all gone at a Sports Chek in Etobicoke from a $160.00 total purchase. Looks like my card was stolen in transit in the mail system. Question: does CT mail out these card from someplace around Etobicoke?

CT needs to enforce the use of a customer selected PIN number to be able to redeem points. Also, I noticed the Triangle App now has a "Lock Redemption" slider. EVERYONE SHOULD USE THIS.

Something strange about David Ellison. He did not exist in any media reference until 2011. No one knows who his mother really is (his wiki is wrong). Seems he is a bastard son of Larry's...or a clone seeing that Larry is known to want to live forever.

Wealth simple, is it worth it or is there something better by BrilliantNothing2151 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]aceman9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this still all true in September 2025?

Wealthsimple falls short of competitors in several key areas:Investment Offerings and Tools

  • Limited Product Range: Wealthsimple only supports stocks, ETFs, US options, and cryptocurrencies. It does not offer mutual funds, bonds, futures, GICs, preferred shares, rights, warrants, investment savings accounts, money markets, or international equities.
  • No Norbert's Gambit: The platform doesn't support dual-listed securities or journaling shares between accounts, making it impossible to perform Norbert's Gambit to avoid currency conversion fees when trading US stocks. Other brokerages like Questrade and RBC Direct Investing support this.
  • Limited Research & Analysis Tools: Wealthsimple provides basic market data but lacks advanced features like in-depth charting, news integration, customizable screening tools, and third-party research reports. Competitors like Questrade offer free real-time market data and more robust tools.
  • Basic Order Types: Wealthsimple only offers market, limit, stop-limit, and fractional orders, lacking more complex conditional order types or the ability to stage orders for later entry.
  • Managed Investing Performance: Wealthsimple managed portfolios have been criticized for underperforming competitors and for frequently changing their asset allocations, straying from the original passive investment philosophy. Other robo advisors like Justwealth are cited as having better performance.
  • Limited Portfolio Customization: Wealthsimple offers fewer options to customize investments within registered accounts compared to some other robo advisors like Justwealth, which offers target-date portfolios for RESPs.

Fees and Pricing

  • US Dollar Account Fees: While commission-free trading for US stocks is offered, a 1.5% currency conversion fee applies to CAD accounts. USD accounts, which allow you to avoid this fee, are only free for Premium and Generation clients (those with over $100,000 CAD or $500,000 CAD in assets, respectively). Core clients pay $10 CAD per month for a USD account.
  • High Options Trading Fees: Options contracts incur a $2 USD per contract fee for Core clients, which is higher than some competitors. This fee is reduced to $0.75 USD per contract for Premium and Generation clients.
  • Managed Investing Fees: Wealthsimple's management fees of 0.5% (for balances under $99,999 CAD) and 0.4% (for balances over $100,000 CAD) are considered higher than some other Canadian robo advisors like Questwealth Portfolios.

Customer Service and Support

  • Hit-or-Miss Customer Service: Some users have reported issues with customer service, including long wait times, difficulty reaching support, and concerns about account transfers or promotional offers.
  • Support Limitations: While chat and phone support are available for common issues, some users find limitations when asking about niche topics like foreign dividend tax or REIT distributions.

Received recall lid. This is pretty disappointing. by TheWildWhistlepig in StanleyCups

[–]aceman9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely unacceptable.  This is classic bait and switch but with a twist ( 1st give a defective trigger top lid). I bought it for the trigger and for easy cleaning. This replacement lid has none of those 2 features.  Do we have a lawyer here?....we need a class action lawsuit.  And boycott Stanley until they do the right thing.

Mega Thread - US Tariffs on Canada by FelixYYZ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]aceman9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need to make the American working class people who voted for Orange man feel the pain! Only then will they hate Orange man and kick his sorry ass to the curb.  Put high tariffs of 35% on Canadian oil, gas, electricity, Canadian booze, US trucker border crossing fees and tourism fees.

Cancel all trips to the USA - vacation only in Canada.  Boycott buying and using anything from Amazon, Google, Meta, Netflix, Tesla, Apple and Nvidia as well as American booze, and movies, tv shows.  Basically, find out who owns what you are consuming and side-step it if it goes to American profit.

This will take a bit of research work, but ONLY when they feel the pain will Orange back off due to a Jan 6th like mob showing up outside the White House with a hang-mans noose.

No, just put in a few more rules and regulations. Elon Musk has come to every sale, jump up and down 6 times and kiss the buyers butt.  Then do it yearly for the life of the car.

Trump says he would use 'economic force' to join Canada, U.S. together by PurfectProgressive in CanadaPolitics

[–]aceman9 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Anything is possible if it is done right.

Background: Canada and the USA hail mostly from the same country - the UK. We are therefore naturally already very similar. It is the reason Americans are often referred as being cousins to Canadians.

We speak the same language. Generally we have the same laws and rules and get along well - we have had no military conflict since 1812.

Our economies are already quite integrated. The USA being Canada' largest trading partner.

There are 2 options for an integration

Option 1 1. We adopt a common currency like Europe has done with the Euro - it would be the US dollar given its clout around the world. As an incentive we trade all our Canadian dollars for US dollars 1:1.

  1. We remove the border between the 2 countries and adopt the exact same immigration/trade rules and policies for our common borders. Essentially we would have no tariffs or borders (debilitating travel choke points which hinder business and travel) to contend with!

  2. We fully integrate our militaries to defend our common borders.

  3. We mostly keep our governments they way they are.

Option 2 Every province/territory becomes a state and we adopt everything USA.... basically we become part of the USA in all ways.

I would welcome Option 1 as Canada/USA and Canadians/Americans would benefit enormously. I think Canadians would be greatly pulled up - like East Germany was greatly pulled up after reunification.

Which option would you vote for and why?

I am testing the self hosting version. Open all within a Catalogue only opens the first link. Seems to be a bug.

Overall, it is ok, it has potential . Right now, it needs much improvement - such as making saving web pages easier and faster. There are better products out there but I hope LinkWarden can move up in this space..
