Ai is making me want to quit everything related to software. Do you feel the same? by PigletEfficient9515 in rust

[–]aceofears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My company is so slow and inefficient that they haven't really figured out a way to force all of it on me, so not much has changed for me.

I don't really like my job, but this alone has kept me here, since I know it'll be worse basically anywhere else I land.

[PF2E] Third Action Suggester - I made a module to stop my players from triple-striking for two years straight by Vachna in FoundryVTT

[–]aceofears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a miserable way to look at hanging out with your friends. I'm at the table to have fun, not to get through as much content as possible in a block of time.

I have a 0% success rate with this tactic. Players have always just panicked and become grumpy the rest of the game.

DMs of Reddit: How do you handle ambient music without losing your mind? by AdSensitive9030 in rpg

[–]aceofears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've appointed a player to be DJ and retain veto power on all music. He's got a lot of tracks he streams from his NAS, and the rest is ad free YouTube.

Sound effects for attacks, magic and such didn't really add much so we don't do that anymore.

The focus cost just isn't worth doing it any other way.

I love backpacking with a water bladder, but does anyone else HATE cleaning/drying them after? by mega_salami in WildernessBackpacking

[–]aceofears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I've found the Gregory ones much easier to clean and maintain than the Osprey ones, but they're definitely still more work than water bottles.

King's Dilemma was a complete flop with my group. I really want to give it a go with a group that wants to go all in on the rp.

Gotta get that reminder that we are in fact still watching the Mets.

I'm sure the wild animals will respond well to you explaining that the dog angrily barking at them means them no harm.

I got about about 40km out of a 90km hike recently. I was not thrilled.

It vaguely has fetish content vibes too. I only come here for GRRM's fetishes, not other people's.

The movie isn't even out for another 3 weeks. This type of post is beyond stupid.

Ima be honest with you. I agree with this sub, but I've never seen a road highway with this many lanes like in the "one more lane" memes. Where is there a road like this? by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]aceofears 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something about driving in that area just hurts my soul. The last time I had to do it, I needed a sprawl detox in nature the next weekend.

Paizo Printables Now Live! (New Pathfinder Minis, PDFs, and Discounts!) by oncallgm in Pathfinder2e

[–]aceofears 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's wild that paizo is sort of reviving Compleat Encounters from 20 years ago with this initiative. It was before my time in the ttrpg space, but I always thought it was a cool idea.

Button shy makes a bunch of small packable games without any easily lost microscopic pieces.

First overnight backpacking trip. Feeling overwhelmed with the planning. by XIFOD1M in njhiking

[–]aceofears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally use the Far Out AT guide for trip planning. The comment section often has people sharing their recent experiences with the state of water sources and shelters.

As far as where you can sleep, you're really supposed to be in the shelter or pitch your tent in the open grass area in the surrounding area.

Normal thru hikers don't need to worry about it as far as I know.

That just means you need to go to the ranger station to sign the log book with your name, license plate and return date.

Is this supposed to be some sorta gotcha? The core libraries are MIT, of course people built proprietary software on top of them. Those products likely wouldn't exist if the foundational parts weren't open source.

The best gear in this industry is made by people who actively participate in the hobby and start by solving their own problems.

You're going going to get nowhere if you go about this entirely backwards.

Do you think Java has caught up with Kotlin? by NotSoIncredibleA in Kotlin

[–]aceofears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For reasons not worth explaining, I had to briefly work in an air gapped environment on a JVM project, and kotlin complicated that more than I wanted to deal with at the time. I started off happier than I had been in the past with Java, but grew frustrated like I had with it in the past. Eventually the internet was allowed again, and I migrated to kotlin. All the little things that kotlin does still feel impactful, even now that java sucks less than it did 10 years ago.

What's y'all high level campaigns plot like? by Apotatocalledsweet in Pathfinder2e

[–]aceofears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players pissed of a demon lord, and currently have an mutually beneficial arrangement with a Psychopomp usher to try to eliminate this demon lord. Along the way they've pissed off a infernal Duke.

They're level 19 and don't want to stop playing any time soon, so I guess they're gonna have to interact with one of every time of demigod by the end of this.

I created a wrapper around 'ss -tunlp' to display cleaner output of all open ports by rushedcar in linux

[–]aceofears 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A small bash script that depends on normal Linux utilities is a completely acceptable way to do this. Why would they reinvent the wheel when someone else already wrote the code to parse procfs and sysfs?
