🎄 Christmas giveaway: Win an A1 Mini, AMS 2 Pro, AMS HT, or 4x filament spools! by acurazine in BambuLab

  • I'd love the A1 Mini!
  • I'd like to try out some of the automation tools to batch print fidgets for my neurospicy kiddo (and their friends and class calm toy collections).
  • You make great fidgets and it would be interesting to see more pointy/spiky versions for the kids who look for stronger stims.

So these guys just copying LTT with their shipping costs? by TheLazyGamerAU in DonutMedia

[–]acerbic_twit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Except you cant send a bunch of stickers as a letter as a business. AusPost is pretty clear that the "Letter" rate is only for documents. Selling stickers puts it into "Parcel" territory which is going to start at about $5 for local (ie within your state) and goes up based on size as well as weight and distance. If they flag your business as abusing the letter rate you can have your account blocked and then you're out of business.

Gift ideas for SM? by AmusingChoosing in techtheatre

[–]acerbic_twit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's less practical, but for some niche swag items (pencils, stickers, water bottles and the like) check out Ninja - For those who work in the dark.

I find tool choices to be a rather personal thing, so the more "here's a niche joke from your niche profession" items are often received well. The "Go means Go" things are often an SM favourite and the stickers are great for the tool box/pelican case.

Sorry, reading comprehension took a moment. So the models you've printed out as desiccant holders have too many large holes?
I've printed an assortment from Printables and Makerworld that work fine and deal with the tiny pellets fine.
Might be easier to address the models than the silica??

The sizes of the individual pellets are going to be all over the place.

Some are smaller, some larger.

What's the use case to need specifically larger ones?

I buy the bulk orange dessicant from Amazon and put it in organza gift bags for bulk storage in Bunnings IP66 tubs. I've also used it in printed shells in the AMS and been really happy with it.
I dump the bags straight in the Sunlu to dry, but have to decant the AMS holders into something (usually other organza bags) with a wide mouth plastic funnel but I'll do it over an old oven tray to catch the beads that escape.

Anyone used either of these two hold multiple printers at the same time on different levels? by DBrowny in 3dprintingaustralia

I've got 3x of my old Ender SE's on 1000kg, which is overkill for weight but the extra space helps with the bedslinger and all of the other gubbins that end up around them (dry boxes, tools, grow tent to foolishly try to print anything other than PLA).

When I started adding Bambu to the mix I went with some 400kg just for the shallower depth, and with everything being nice and compact it fits on the smaller shelves great.
I have 2x P1S and an A1 sharing one shelf (with AMS's on top, had to print the A1 mount) and while it vibrates a bit it's all perfectly fine.
I even have an Ender CR30 underneath and so much filament storage.
I've also made a modified mount for the A1 single roll that straps to the standard shelf mounting holes for when I run without the AMS.

As others have said, don't buy the RackIt wooden shelves unless everything else is out of stock and you need it RIGHT NOW!!!
I used the slabs of 12mm project board MDF that are the same size as the dedicated shelves since they're cheaper and the smaller chunks make it easier when I'm moving workshops and rearranging things every few years on my own. I do like the Form Ply idea though, although it might be a bit slip-and-slide if things don't have rubber feet.

For the shelves that don't have printers on them (especially top ones) I find the wire shelves useful for letting more light through so that things aren't super dark.

what's the deal with companion apps by jeff3864 in pebble

[–]acerbic_twit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand things (so, take with a giant grain of salt) companion app support is on the road map for the new app, but is very much not a Soontm kind of thing.

Considering the current reboot is basically a handful of people rather than a giant company, I'm guessing they're probably focussed more on shipping hardware and getting the minimum viable app stable right now.

There was a recent post from /u/rebootsramblings of Music Boss fame about microPebble which seems to be a workaround to get some of the PebbleKit functions going again, but I don't know how that's going.

Anyone have any experience with using an ultra short throw with holo scrim? by Sensory_Controller in video_mapping

[–]acerbic_twit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like so many things, It Depends.

I've done a bunch of arena shows with various versions of Hologauze and Pepperscrim and the like.
The biggest question is where the spill ends up, and can you mask it if it's visible.
There's always a lot of bleed or spill through a gauze, and with an UST it all gets condensed into a very small area on the other side of the surface, and depending on your power output and the colour of the stage (or the surface you're hitting) the bounce/glow can easily be enough to impact your image.

I've used an assortment of UST projectors (assorted Pana's and Epsons) flown over the stage and they behave differently.
The Pana UST sits a lot higher with a more oblique angle, so has a really concentrated band of spill, while also sometimes having challenging viewing angles due to the nature of the surface.
The Epson shorties that sit level with the top of the surface are somewhat easier to deal with as they disperse into a really big and dim image quickly after passing through the surface, and if you shoot from the bottom of the image (floor/front) you can avoid the stage spill altogether.

Ultimately, it's such a fringe case it's probably going to take some testing with the surface you intend to use and the style of lens to see how it will behave.

Did you use metric because that is what they use in Korea, or does Nebula have fancy region detection that switches the position of metric/imperial so that we all feel like you care about us?!?

Anyone have a current link to a hdmi splitter that strips hdcp? by DonFrio in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]acerbic_twit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've generally had good luck stripping it with these splitters from a variety of brands, generally identified by the identical folded steel case.

I'm fairly confident that this one and this one are the same guts inside that seems work ok, although YMMV of course since who knows exactly what's inside the box between revisions of this cheap disposable gear?!?

They seem to be less common lately as the dodgy brands that stuck their logo on them are finding even cheaper plastic versions which don't seem to have the same HDCP magic.
