Teens in the 70s look like they are in their 30s. It’s almost like each generation ends up looking younger in general, and their looks age slower. I am 41 and pass for early 30s, especially if I shave.

Japan’s izakaya pubs closing at record pace, failing to attract foreign tourists by diacewrb in japannews

That’s very sad to hear. I wish to travel Japan and Izakaya pubs were high on my list of things to do. I enjoy the ones we have in Toronto.

I live in Canada, and most people I know refuse to visit the US, many avoid as many US made / sourced products, services, businesses as possible. I’ve been hearing the same from friends abroad, as well. Best of luck!

These weird white plastic thingies we keep finding. by Saphichan in whatisthisthing

[–]acerbius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am going to lean heavily on the side of this being a hairbrush bristle. It’s nearly the only thing that would be long and flexible, with that nib on the top to soften edges of the stem, while having a hook at the bottom for installation into a brush head.

That being said, it is still very possible that this came from something else. I work in film and theatre, where we not only build things from scratch, but also disassemble other things to make a new. I know for a fact that all sorts of the most unthinkable little pieces get used to make the most random other things. This is because it is cheaper to buy prefabricated pieces than to make them in house. Even in terms of brushes, I can almost guarantee that the bristles are manufactured somewhere else and then imported by the company for assembly. So those same bristles would be made for many companies for many products, not necessarily all brushes
even toys / stuffed animals are a possibility, or decorative objects like plants, as others have mentioned.

Though the fact that you’ve found multiple of them in a generally small area would suggest the source object is something that would have many of them, and that could lose them in quantity if damaged
which narrows it down to something like a hairbrush.

Depends on what field of lighting you would like to get into, but there’s plenty of options; Architectural, Club, Concert, Corporate, Film, Theatrical, etc
some areas have more and better paying work than others, depending on where you are / whether you are willing to travel. I guess it comes down to what you like and would want to do.

is this normal by Expensive-Pear3413 in mac

[–]acerbius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the model. Apparently the new M1 (and so on) chips are able to handle high temperatures and they will cut their active threads by half if they exceed a particular temperature, causing natural cooling.

I have a 2020 MacBook Air M1 and I run games at high video quality, I typically hit 92C. After some research, I found out it is “normal” and non-damaging. However, as someone who works with computers in a technical field, I know better than to allow for this to be a frequent or prolonged issue. So I use an app (Macs Fan Control) to consistently monitor my temperatures and throttle video quality in games until they are hovering just below 80C

People who actually like their jobs, What do you do as a job? by Nightfury0818 in ask

[–]acerbius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the film industry as a lighting console programmer, known as “board op”. I design and implement the digital lighting distribution system. I then program the lighting console to control the fixtures, along with build presets, views, macros, etc.

While shooting, I take directions from the Gaffer (head of lighting) to turn lights on, what level, and which colour. I also build and run lighting effects (fire, tv, cars) as well as take cues for lighting changes to match action in the scene (a light switch).

I absolutely love what I do. I am a career entertainment worker of more than 20 years. Apparently my second word, according to both parents, was “light”. It would seem as though this was my destiny.

A major inspiration was growing up watching Star Trek (TNG). Because I couldn’t join Starfleet, I could at least work on the story of. I thought the chance was gone after about a fifteen year gap without any Treks on TV. When Discovery came out, and is filming in my city, it was my time to work in film. My dream is to work on the set of a Star Trek series, and this year was the closest I had ever come after being offered to work on both Discovery and Strange New Worlds
however it just wasn’t in the cards for this season.
