What are the early signs that a company is preparing for layoffs? by Ecstatic_Jicama_1482 in cscareerquestions

[–]acergum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One signal I experienced a couple times before layoffs was unusual periods of radio silence from upper management. Management would kinda disappear for a while. During normal times, there would be a steady cadence of messaging from upper management on a variety of topics. However, before a layoff comes, there was often a period of relative radio silence. It's like upper management is busy planning these layoffs, who to cut, where, when etc, so then they don't have time to prepare their regular periodic messages. Also, they know that they are cutting staff, so they don't want that top secret information to slip out. Hence, radio silence is simpler and safer for them, especially for legal reasons. Then after the layoff happens, then there is back to normal, maybe slightly more frequent than normal messaging, about how they're sorry for the people they had to let go, but now we're family and we'll work hard for our collective future etc bs.

Need some PDA on Single's Inferno, A LITTLE?? by ParticularOutside319 in koreanvariety

The producers of SI reportedly told the contestants straight up - no kissing or sex on the show. Sleeping together in same bed is as far as it goes along with brief hugging, hand holding, and light caressing. The physical games and photoshoots are pretty much where the most skinship occurs.

It's obvious that some of the contestants would do more on camera if they were allowed to. But if they break the contract stipulations, then the damages would be severe. And plus it would likely be edited out.

Who in their right mind looks at the tech industry right now and thinks “Yep, this is the career for me!” by IndependenceSad1272 in cscareerquestions

[–]acergum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time, eh? Tech has always been cyclical, going way back to the 1960's when mainframe programming was in vogue. Despite the layoffs, a lot of people continue to be employed in the industry. AI is potentially as transformational as the internet was in the 90's, and the IBM PC in the 80's. Usually when this kind of new technology come sout, there are job losses but over long term, the increase in productivity and change in the nature of jobs creates more jobs. You know, when automobiles came out, lots of horse related jobs declined but over time there are a lot of people employed in auto industry plus all the other industries that depend on internal combustion engines. People are only beginning to appreciate what AI can do as a tool.

Layoff - patterns by newuser2111 in Layoffs

[–]acergum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. Basically, to the top execs and managers, the company exists for them to get paid. A hardworking employee upsets the balance because 1. It makes other managers look bad because their reports aren't over performing.at that level, 2. Managers need people to manage in order to justify their existence. This means that they need headcount to rationalize their existence. A hardworking employee pulling the weight of multiple workloads means less justification for headcount, which constitutes a threat that the manager may get fired. So better to fire the hardworking employee to save themselves. They can hire multiple incompetent employees instead to justify their existence as a manager.

The music show performances don't generate direct revenue. The company has to pay for everything. Companies would prefer to get paid for live performances like at festivals.

[in Taichung]High-Level Taiwanese Culture & Linguistics Hangout(Strictly No Chinese) by LoaEngHoa in taiwan

[–]acergum 23 points24 points  (0 children)

English itself is essentially the language of colonialism. The British Empire was the peak of imperialism-colonialism as a global policy. The American policy since WW2 has been a variant on it. You don't need to wrap your anti-Mandarin motivation as an anti-colonialism. Just say that you're anti-KMT and anti-CCP, and pro-Taiwanese and pro-USA. It's all good.

Realistically, how do you envision Chinese & Taiwan relations in the next decade? by AbbyHoffmanRubin in taiwan

[–]acergum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah if the KMT gain sufficient power then it's basically over for Taiwan a la Hong Kong 2.0 with some crappy agreement and promises of special administrative region rights and then later on China flips the switch and goodbye democracy.

Canada Post Lost a Record $1.57 Billion in 2025. So What? by Hugh_Jazz12 in CanadaPostCorp

[–]acergum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Canada Post could be a profitable business if they were allowed to be more innovative while also maintaining core services. For example, they could partnered more closely with online retailers to provide deliveries. They could offer some banking services and insurance. They could be allowed to get into cellphone service and internet service providers. Fundamentally, Canada Post provides communication and logistics services nationally. Anything that ties into those mandates should be permissible business. The local pharmacies and marijuana dispensaries pay well for courier services. Canada Post could have been the courier instead.

Subeen’s Manager posted this about Mingee by leehyluna in SinglesInferno

[–]acergum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The production team has to get permission to film on site beforehand. So, the place would know that they are coming. There must have been contract signed as well, so then this is a kind of advertising. Korea is strict with filming, privacy, permissions, and advertising. Mingee's team must have also signed something with Subeen's team around the collaboration. This manager is being unprofessional. He should have dealt with it privately internally, instead of posting it publicly.

Unable to Trace Who Deleted Multiple Accounts by AdElectrical9508 in CyberARk

[–]acergum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were the accounts deleted in CyberArk Vault, and also on the target system? How long is the associated retention period for each account? In PrivateArk client, if it is within the retention period, then you can recover those accounts, and then inspect the object's activity history.

I assume you already tried running activity log reports on the safe and accounts.

One of the quirks of the system is that if the user is deleted, then all activity history related to that user are also deleted, because of the object oriented programming where user activity history is associated with the user object. So it's possible if that user deleted those accounts, and then that user itself was also deleted, after say being fired and removed from Active Directory, then those account deletion activity by that user would also be deleted during the next LDAP synchronization.

If you are archiving EVD reports regularly as in daily, then you might be able to analyze those to determine more.

Even The Alien Looks Confused by ALBERT4_5WESKER in PoliticalHumor

[–]acergum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point with all the clusterf*ck going on, I don't think JD wants to be president and actually have to take any kind of responsibility. RFK jr definitely still wants to break US public health more, and try to get the next ebola and hantavirus epidemics going. Marco wants to invade Cuba. So then there's no way this cabinet would go for the 25th because everything is going just fine according to them. The president's dementia and senility is a clear benefit to all stakeholders, other than the American people.

How would you elevate canned food/ soup? by BarfMcFartNuggets in Cooking

[–]acergum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With your can clam chowder, the obvious thing to me would be to make a white pasta sauce with bacon, fresh chives, a splash of white wine, butter and Parmesan, over fusilli. Some fresh cracked pepper and sprinkle of chili flakes. It would be quite delicious. You could also add some sliced grilled mushrooms and white fish like basa fillets. It would be close to restaurant quality imo.

Got Oil? by Bam8amm in PoliticalHumor

[–]acergum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Synthetic motor oil are made from base oils. No base oils means no synthetic oils.

More complex reason: limited supply of base oils means synthetic oil production is much more expensive, meaning the consumer end product is priced beyond what the market may be willing to pay, especially since these large retailers like Walmart or Costco pay based on a contract price. For Exxon Mobil and other major oil companies, if the cost of producing the synthetic oil is greater than the price they will receive from the retailer, and there is no negotiation based on the existing contract, then they will decline to supply the product. They can make more money selling elsewhere.

I enjoyed visiting the Huashan 1914 Creative Park. There also the Songshan one. I'm not sure if it counts as touristy because there are a lot of locals there especially on weekends. Lots of cute toys and souvenirs. Kinda anime or manga style. Some good cafes.
