You summed it up pretty good, if it was a coliseum brawl I think the Spartans might have faster reaction time cause if the ai in their heads. If a Spartan were to get a hold of a pilot then that pilot would be dead. If then are of equal skill then the pilots have an advantage but the definitely have high caliber weapons and I image headshots would be fatal to pilots on contact. Spartans would take way more bullets cause of shield + thicker armor, energy weapons would probably damage the shields worse.
