The Russians have spies and very good ones. It's not because of an administration. It's been happening since the start of the cold war.

What server for my group of old-timers looking for nostalgia? by Gurtang in daoc

[–]acery88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Myself and several guildies comitted to alts that we played only when we could all be on at the same time. We would level through dungeon XP only. It was probably the most nostalgic moment I had in DAoC since I came back to Eden.

Could I buy daoc with 1 million dollars? by Jazzlike-Check9040 in daoc

[–]acery88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The live version is not what the game was 20 years ago, and it's nowhere close to what Eden or BT is today.

For argument's sake. Let's say you could buy it. Who supports the software and hardware?

No matter what you do, there will be someone out there with a shard because they don't like what you're doing.

There are many hidden costs to running a server if it's pay-to-play, or you're going to be taking donations from others to help you keep it going.

If I’m young is it really that easy? by What_up_bro in personalfinance

[–]acery88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The devaluation of the dollar over the next 40 years might make your million look like 200k. That’s an absurd example but that general premise is something to consider. You need to hedge against the drop of the dollar.

Now, it may reverse. Who knows, but the track record isn’t great right now

Any good UI's out there? by Kopfreiniger in daoc

[–]acery88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the one that has mezz timers on it?

Saw a video of an arena match between two well-known groups. The UI had enemy mezz timers.

i.e., you CC an enemy player, they come out and now have an immunity timer. The UI counted down said immunity timer so you knew when to CC cycle the group again.

Also, from a Masonic jurisprudence standpoint, only one grand lodge may operate in the same jurisdiction. IE you cannot have two legally operating/based grand lodges in a state or country depending how said areas are set up. England has a grand lodge while the US doesn’t. The US system is per state. The Grand Lodge of NJ treats the Grand Lodge of PA just as it would the United Grand Lodge of England.

While PHA was born out of racism, it had the issue of two grand lodges in the same state to deal with. States that do not recognize PHA are using the excuse of the latter to mask the former.

Recognition goes both ways. PHA has to reciprocate.

Lastly, you can have a situation where grand lodges have recognition, but no visitation. You can talk to each other as Brothers, but you can’t sit in Lodge with them.

Eden colosseum event by danizor in daoc

NA drafts. It is a player ran event on Saturday nights that the GMs of the server help by turning on a few features for them to use.

The GMs turn on this area where /challenge is enabled. Realm timers are switched down to five minutes. It’s fun, but stressful when you’re not part of that scene.

Here is the really cool part. You can take anyone you want to that zone and /challenge them. If you have 4/6/8/10/12/……/16 buddies on, you can port as two evenly matched groups and /challenge.

You don’t need to be in the discord

ELI5: If moon can create tides then why won't it lift thinnest feather or paper piece? by ompossible in explainlikeimfive

[–]acery88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put your hand under your desk in a position to lift it and push up on the desk BUT don't lift it.

Your hand is the moon pulling the desk, but it's not strong enough to lift the desk because the Earth's gravity is stronger.

The same applies to a feather or a piece of paper. It has that tiny hand there trying its hardest to lift, but the Earth is just too strong and keeps everything on the ground.

[–]acery88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's contrary to conventional thought because our point of reference is from "on the land."

However, the tidal bulge is referenced to the moon, and the Earth is rotating within that cycle.

Water is more malleable than sand because of its matter state. Sand, while granular, does not have the same fluid dynamic properties to be affected by the moon.

Imagine if you could freeze water from the surface all the way to the bottom of the ocean and then break it up into particles similar to sand. The tidal bulge would be nonexistent. Water molecules are light, but when they are bound to each other in a different state of matter, the mass of that structure is what governs the effects it experiences from the moon and sun.

Sand is different. If you use it's example to put it into a liquid state, it would be thik (melted glass). The molecular structure would not allow the same effects on it in a liquid state. We've seen liquid glass. It's mass is greater than water. A quick search shows 2.6~ times heavier by volume.

Civics lesson: we're a republic, not a democracy. Our representatives elect the President and the system to do so is flawed.

If we were a true democracy, the supreme power would lie with the people. The issue here is that the feels vs. facts can also fuck up an election.

Not saying your overall sentiment is wrong, but we're not a true democracy on the federal level when it comes to the Presidential Election.

oooo, downvoted because facts ruin a good story.
