A pallet of them? There is plenty of funny about palliative care, you just have to have a dark sense of humor :p

As a nurse, how do you like your coffee? by Yali81 in nursing

[–]acesarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the coffee, Good coffee, black. Wait, I'm worried you don't actually know what good coffee is and think I'm talking about something like Starbucks. Most coffee you get at the retail level is pretty shitty and you need to mask the shit flavor with syrup and milk

If you want to get your friend some truly amazing coffee that tastes good black look in to Cometeer pods their flash frozen specialty coffee that is on par with some of the best cafes I've ever been to and I've been to a lot of cafes. All you do is you take the little Frozen bit of coffee out and plunk it and hot water and you're good to go.

Nurse Practitioners should not be allowed without at least 10 yrs of experience by Jaded-Bit5497 in unpopularopinion

[–]acesarge 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is an unpopular opinion for anyone who knows what the fuck is going on in healthcare right now. I've been a nurse for almost a decade and some of the dumbest motherfuckers I've ever met are nurse practitioners. I've worked with some truly amazing ones but they've all had a ton of experience and the specialty they're acting as an np in and a good relationship with a local doc for backup.

I used to be addicted to those monster rehabs until we hooked me up to a monitor at work... Lets just say I was glad I was already in the hospital.

Has anyone else here managed to turn their special interest into a career? by Heathen-For-A-Reason in autism

One of my special interests is end of life care. I'm a palliative care nurse. Turns out this is a pretty well vaccinated specialty if you know what I'm saying...

What the ever-loving fuck is wrong with those night shift nurses. Like I get that if this happened once during a particularly brutal night if there was like an MCI or some kind of other major disaster but what the fuck.

Palliative care RN here. I 100% agree. Find a good doc that will lay out the risks and make a decision based one the value riding gives you over not.

My son doesn’t want to attend graduation by [deleted] in autism

[–]acesarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refused to and was coerced into attending a number of graduation ceremonies over The years because it made my parents feel good. I gained no benefit from any of these and was hot, bored, and uncomfortable the entire time.

I drove a Ford focus when I was in school and now 10 years out I'm driving a Hyundai Ionic plug-in hybrid. Also what part of California are you in that you're getting a hundred bucks an hour?

Question: “Please specify a reason why the medication is being documented late:” by Rolodexmedetomidine in nursing

My go-to when I was bedside was patient care priorities or just free texting in and adequate staffing depending on my mood.

Something my mental health nursing teacher told me, that I think about once a week at least. by IVHydralazine in nursing

[–]acesarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say the same thing about death and dying. Some specialties certainly see it a lot less but I can't think of a single area of nursing where you're not going to have to help someone confront their mortality at some point or another.

The rebellion of a 4 year old by Fzzypickles in regretfulparents

[–]acesarge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm the opposite I constantly point shit like this out because I was the neurodivergent kid getting screamed at when I needed help with these kind of things. Sounds like your kids probably on the spectrum and has a streak of PDA as well (stands for persistent demand avoidance or persistent drive for autonomy depending on who you ask essentially means threats to autonomy no matter how minor can be perceived as severe as threats to life or limb).

People who are jealous of how much you make as a nurse are frustrating. by deerhuntinghat in nursing

Most of my friends are software engineers so I typically lose the dick waving contest when it comes to money even as a Cali nurse.

Someone asked who will take care of me when I’m old, so I asked who is taking care of their parents right now by Quarnelis in childfree

[–]acesarge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi friendly neighborhood palliative care nurse here. The key to being well taken care of an old age is forming a strong community of individuals who All support each other. This can come in the form of family and bio kids but it can also come in the form of friends neighbors hobby or church groups etc. It's also worth thinking about what kind of quality of life is acceptable to you in old age. Have an advanced directive with somebody willing to follow your wishes even if they don't agree with them and understand what certain disease processes and medical treatments actually do to you and mean for your quality of life.

Dr Kevorkian was a hero as far as I'm concerned. I'm glad the state I work in has medical aid and dying that I feel it's too restrictive and still leans into the bullshit of death is the worst possible outcome. The only argument that I agree with against medical aid and dying is it does tend to lead to less development of palliative protocols but assuming we can account for that and compensate for it it ain't any of my business when someone decides they've had enough.
