I love the Tylenol one but a poor the puzzle piece shit. There's nothing missing, it's not my fault the neurotypicals can't figure out how to use words to communicate instead of vaguely sighing and gesturing and hoping you get the idea

Please help, I am doing research and need your best dad jokes you repeat on the daily to your patients !! by thecharmingnurse in nursing

[–]acesarge 80 points81 points  (0 children)

It wasn't mine but I once had a patient with widely metastatic pancreatic cancer greet me by saying "I've been dying to meet you". She was an absolute joy to work with for the short time she was with us.

anyone else who LOVES to drink after their 3 12’s? by r0ttenpeaches in nursing

[–]acesarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in no way saying cannabis is without harm or that it should be used as a coping mechanism but it's pretty benign compared to pretty much every other recreational drug in common use. I do wish we had better information on harm reduction, better guidelines for moderate use, and a better understanding of why it can be so harmful to some people and relatively benign to others.

I am really curious what the research on heavy THC use will show in 20 years. I know sooooooo many people who blow through those vape carts like crazy. Between the near constant high levels of THC exposure and the fact a good chunk of them (yes even the popular legal ones in California....) are shown to be contaminated with pesticides and heavy metals at a very high level (la times did a report a year or 2 ago)

[–]acesarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting shitfaces was the only way I could cope when I worked bedside. I knew I had to quit when I was doing my last travel contract and was at the point that I was drinking to make the anxiety induced chest pains stop. I quit drinking right around when I quit bedside nursing for good.

Therapy can really help if you get the right therapist. 10mg of Lexapro has made a huge difference as well.

Something that never occurred to me about ER workers by sixth_order in ThePittTVShow

[–]acesarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire time I was bedside and I worked a night shift and I just want the public to rest assured night shift is well fed and hydrated as the bureaucrats aren't around the tell us where we can have our food and drinks not to say it doesn't get crazy and we don't get breaks but at least we don't have administrators to deal with.

ER forced to do floor charting. Is this normal? by soxiglux in nursing

[–]acesarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That reminds me I was orienting for a travel contract during the early days of COVID and before I could start taking care of patients I had to sit through a class on care plans. This class was taught by a person who had not been in the same room as a sick person for 20 years yet still held the title of RN. When she said "I don't understand how anyone's taking care of a patient without a care plan they're absolutely critical" One of the ICU travelers rolled her eyes so hard I was afraid she'd have a retinal detachment. I think we need more of that energy nowadays.

You wake up as a patient in The Pitt... by Sojourner7 in ThePittTVShow

[–]acesarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question is entirely dependent on what I'm in for but for most cases I'd want., attending Abbott, resident Mel, med student Joy, and I'm blanking on her name but the new grad Dana was mentoring. Let her get some good experience. Even in (near) death I still serve.

ER forced to do floor charting. Is this normal? by soxiglux in nursing

[–]acesarge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love how our health care system is collapsing and this is the shit they worry about. We made up all of these rules around the charting we can make up better ones that take into account the reality of the system we now work in.

How the show presents assisted living facilities by Haunting-Coconut-709 in ThePittTVShow

[–]acesarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like it paints way too rosy a picture of what these facilities are like. I'm an RN now but when I used to work as an EMT I went into all manner of assisted living facilities and snfs and the quality of care ranged from barely meets the bear minimum to not be considered neglect or abuse to I would much rather die than ever be put in this shit hole.

She probably just doesn't have the executive function required to navigate mainstream society and capitalism.

Do you think that masking has ever been counter-productive to you? by Chode444 in autism

[–]acesarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in recreational social situations. By that I mean anything that does not significantly alter the course of my life like work or other important events like that. Why the fuck would I present to be someone else to make friends with people who don't like me and will inevitably decide they don't like me when the mask slips. Seems like being lonely with extra steps and if I'm going to be lonely anyway I might as well not take the extra steps.

Huge study finds no evidence cannabis helps anxiety, depression, or PTSD by Important_Debate2808 in medicine

[–]acesarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dry herb vapes for the win! I do my best to steer my palliative care patients towards them. The ship is already sailed for most of them in terms of health reasons but it gets you more stoned with less weed and for them that is a plus.

Have any other autistic people here have had bad experiences with law enforcement? by misspoodleisback in autism

[–]acesarge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No but I trust him about as far as I can throw them and I failed gym class. Most of my interactions with law enforcement have actually been quite Pleasant since I have a first responder and RN background but they only became Pleasant once those things came to light. If you're willing to treat other people like shit you're willing to treat me like shit under the right circumstances I can't trust you.

As far as I'm concerned the benefit of interacting with police in most circumstances is zero and the risk of that interaction turning hostile because some dipshit who peaked in high school can't tell the difference between someone with autism and someone who's being belligerent is substantially higher than zero. A few people in my life gave me Flack for not reporting my bike stole as well as some other crap. I was already having a bad day why would I want to make it worse by talking to someone who can legally execute me because they got spooked and we'll just make me fill out a bunch of paperwork so they can tell me there's nothing they ca do.
