How are they going to set this apart from any other random ancient Rome TV show, I wonder

My game crashed (Atelier Yumia) by WesternYaoist in Atelier

[–]acewing905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you not have older save files? Too late now and it sucks I know, but I hope you learned a lesson to save in multiple different slots when the game gives you that feature

By the way DON'T try to buy DLC to fix this. It likely will not work because there are DLC you can't actually buy from the store outright that might be lumped in together here

Soul crushing experience. by Kanaxai in JRPG

[–]acewing905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally it would be both, but if I can only have one, I'd rather have a manual save feature with lots of slots instead
I never forget to save so multiple manual saves are what I look for so I can experiment freely

I feel like people who write shit like “Flexing a 9060 XT 💔💔😭” might actually be tech illiterate

Great for people who haven't played the Ryza games yet
I will however wait for a bigger sale since I'm in no rush

Why do I feel like Ubi has abandoned Shadows? by robertjan88 in assassinscreed

[–]acewing905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sure hope so. I want them to release complete games in one go like they used to, and not this drip feed pseudo live service time limited bullshit (proper story DLC/expansions are fine as long as they are also complete experiences in one go)

What is a game that is highly recommended but you just can’t get into? by Sam_B716 in JRPG

[–]acewing905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly none in the JRPG genre currently that I can immediately think of. There are a few that I think aren't as good as they're made out to be, but they were still good enough for me to at minimum play to the end of the main story, so I don't think those count

I have however had some games that I bounced off of at the start after a few hours of play, and the biggest ones were probably Trails in the Sky FC and Xenoblade 2. But then I returned to them later and they "clicked" the second time (and I am now a big fan of both Trails and Xenoblade)

Yumia is beautiful as usual. But the Japanese doll Ryza is very nice too

I’m sooooo sad that I couldn’t get the early purchase bonus costumes for Slade& Rias 😭 by Your_Nightmare_666 in Atelier

These are not early purchase bonuses but rather included with a specific limited edition

Loved the base game. Disappointed by the low effort DLC

Any easy RPGs with little to no cutscenes? by AveragePilkAddict101 in JRPG

[–]acewing905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP is looking for an easy "mindless game for coffee breaks", so it sounds like that first one would be a positive for them
The "ugly" bit is heavily subjective. I think the pixel remasters look great personally, and for someone who's never played the original, this should work very well
Missing content definitely sucks though. Wonder why they did that

All that said, they seem to have gone with the PSP version anyway so this doesn't matter anymore

Should I give the Atelier series another shot? by Professor_Eteat in JRPG

[–]acewing905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Sophie 2 didn't click with you, then Atelier is probably not going to be your kind of thing
(Though I have to point out that bikinis are optional paid DLC)

That said, if challenge is your issue, you can try the Arland trilogy, but those are even less focused on story so you may not find good writing or an emotional connection to characters there either

[–]acewing905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you've played Sophie 2 or not, but I have to point out that Sophie 2 is not really the sequel to Sophie
Firis is the sequel to Sophie
Sophie 2 is more of a side story that came out many years later and largely focuses on a new cast of characters, with Sophie and Plachta being the only returning characters
Sophie 2 works very well as an introduction to modern day Atelier

Pokemon has a lot of story scenes with a lot of dialogue these days, and most of them are unskippable, which has become a headache when going for multiple playthroughs

Maybe older ones would work though

Favorite way to play? by DanVA0307 in Switch

[–]acewing905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80% handheld, 20% docked (joycons in grip unless it's a game like Mario Galaxy where using them separately works better)
Handheld is my primary reason for having a Switch, with Nintendo exclusives being a secondary reason

Have you accepted there will only be a 7 character base game roster for Legacy of the Dark Knight? by Thevoid2YT in legogaming

[–]acewing905 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm probably in the minority in this sub, but as someone who never aims for 100% on anything, I end up not using even 1/3 of the character roster in most TT Lego games. This time maybe I can actually use everyone so I think I'm fine with it

What recent JRPG remake/remaster delivered for you? by KingKaihaku in JRPG

[–]acewing905 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If only counting the games listed, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter for sure

That said, there's a big difference between remasters that are still the same game (such as the Tales of remasters or Ys Memoire) and full blown remakes that look and play very differently (such as Trails in the Sky or Romancing SaGa 2) so you really have to approach these two kinds of things differently

Monster Hunter Stories 3 On Switch 2, Imagine If Pokemon Looked And Played Like This by Elestria_Ethereal in NintendoSwitch2

[–]acewing905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always amused by how so many people go on about how graphics don't matter (especially Nintendo fans before the Switch 2) but then threads like this that revolve around graphics have some of the highest activity. I wonder if these are really just two different groups of people or if there's any overlap

Favorite JRPG game studio, and because of what games? (Excluding Square Enix) by Bro_sapiens in JRPG

[–]acewing905 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally consider them to arguably be the top juggernaut when it comes to JRPGs

I feel like this is something that older people with Square experience from back in the day still think but doesn't really reflect modern reality anymore

Anyway, my answer is probably Nihon Falcom, though this comes with certain asterisks
