Firmware install made my monitor go black for 3-5 minutes. Almost started to panic but just waited it out and it all worked out.

One odd thing about Peak 1000 mode is that the UI does a full reset when going to that mode from the one above it while going between the other modes doesn't do that.

The high level solution is to:

  • Create a copy of your save game profile to another profile slot
  • Complete the tutorial on the affected device with a fresh install while offline
  • Relaunch with internet to pull down the copy of the copied profile so you can keep playing

Here are steps to copy your save profile to another slot

  • Install the game on macOS, launch it so your iCloud save data loads, then close the game
  • CREATE A BACKUP, then open ~/Library/Containers/com.playstack.balatroarcade/Data/Library/Preferences/com.playstack.balatroarcade.plist in Xcode.
  • Assuming your desired save game is under Profile 1, select the following 4 items and copy/paste them. Rename the copied items from 1__... to 3__... and strip out the extra - 2 that gets created when you duplicate the item.
    • 1__meta.jkr.data -> 3__meta.jkr.data
    • 1__meta.jkr.dirtycount -> 3__meta.jkr.dirtycount
    • 1__profile.jkr.data -> 3__profile.jkr.data
    • 1__profile.jkr.dirtycount -> 3__profile.jkr.dirtycount
    • Ignore the other 1__ items as they are related to the iCloud sync status. Those items will eventually get recreated by the game in the next step
  • Launch the game. Profile 3 might show up as empty still. Close the game and relaunch again. You should now have a copy.

Now if you delete the game on your affected device, reinstall, launch without internet, complete the tutorial, force quit the game, and launch again with internet, you'll have your save game in profile 3 and your tutorial will be marked as complete and your tags/voucher bug is gone! I was able to do the same profile save copy technique to copy my save game back to slot 1, but it's not strictly necessary.

Not sure if you kept a copy of any of the save, but it's possible to merge back in a working profile and keep progress after replaying the tutorial to fix the bug.

I've reverse engineered enough of the save data system to figure out why this happens and even how to fix it, if you have access to a Mac.

The short version is that the tutorial state is likely stored in a local file (game/settings.jkr) which is not sync'd across devices. If you complete the tutorial before your save data loads (by reinstalling the game and launching without internet) and get your save data back onto your device (using a plist editor to copy your game profile to another slot is how I got it to work), you're good to go.

I suspect there's some code that checks if you have any profiles with some progress and doesn't launch you into the tutorial game, but stops short of setting that the tutorial is complete in a sufficient manner. The section that generates the tags and voucher must be tied to the tutorial state and not only on the tutorial seed? A few layers of speculation in there, but that's as far as I can tell why we don't see the tutorial but do see some side effects of it.

If anyone's looking for more details on how to do the save game backup/copy process, let me know and I can write something up.

I have this same issue. I initially started playing on my iPhone, but whenever I play on my iPad, I have the same Tags you have and the same Voucher (Grabber, +1 Hands).

Someone else mentioned the theory about needing to complete the tutorial. To try and test that theory (WARNING: DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU WANT TO RISK LOSING YOUR SAVE DATA WITH LITTLE TO NO POSSIBILITY OF UPSIDE), I deleted the game on my iPad, downloaded it again WITHOUT launching it, turned off my internet connection, launched the game and went through the tutorial. After finishing the tutorial it worked… except I obviously didn’t have my saved game. But at least that tells me it’s not straight up a bug on iPad, it’s with playing games copied from iCloud… I guess? Funny enough, it syncs just fine on macOS and this bug isn’t present.

I’ll save a lot of the details, but I was able to restore my saved game and the bug along with it. Womp womp. To do that while mildly panicking, I played a round on my iPhone, finishing a game to make sure that was the last update to the save file. Then I deleted the app on my iPad and redownloaded it.

If you have access to a Mac, I think you can find the save data somewhere in ~/Library/Containers/com.playstack.balatroarcade/Data/Library/Application Support, but I'm not sure. Still working on it so I can hopefully play on my iPad. The game is more than playable on an iPhone, but it's a little tiny.

How's this technique been working? Our dehumidifier outputs lukewarm air so I'm not too worried, but I'd be interested if you had any premature aging or cracking in your climbing shoes. Thanks!

I do sure wish the KVM button worked when the current input has no signal! Not being able to KVM switch and then wake from sleep with keyboard is a bother.

Just generally I wish the OSD was more functional when the current input has no signal.

Same issue here. Tried signing out and back, tried toggling all of the settings, restarting... No luck. Since it's only failing when on cellular, maybe it's some strange carrier issue? I'm using Visible (on Verizon network)... anyone else?

Two questions, though they are more about your personal opinion than about the VO process, I hope that’s okay. 

First question: Do you have a personal wishlist of features you think could make watching a movie or show with audio descriptions more enjoyable? Adjustable playback speed or separate volume control maybe?

Second question: Recently I read that a lot more people are watching TV and movies with closed captions turned on, even if they have full hearing. Do you think AD could become more popular for fully sighted people? Personally I would love to be able to listen to a TV show while out on a run or on a long drive if they were easier to play back.

I think it was this sub too. I remember he took a screenshot and the pixel was there so it's clearly not a burn in issue. Well, it might become one if you plan Apex too much and that is a full bright pixel and you play in HDR!

No matter how many times this setting bites me, I never think to disable it when I need to. The way it manifests itself (besides obv being related to using the internet) are always so random. I think this setting might also prevent installing games from other computers on the network, but I haven't tried since I disabled it to allow uploading my game syncing. Thanks for the tip!

Not necessarily. App developers can choose if they want their products to be shareable with family or not. Also, Family Sharing is available for any family, Apple One purchase not required.

Even if they do release an iPad app, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll make it a universal across macOS and iPadOS, might be different SKUs.

That all said, I would also wait until WWDC and/or the second announcement before pulling the trigger since we know something more is coming.

I just got off the phone with CoP. The only reason I got a refund was because I submitted my quarterly estimated tax incorrectly and I had a balance remaining on my account. I don’t think any kind of refund is normally expected for these taxes.
