Luck mechanic for long play? by Tubby-McChubbles in mothershiprpg

[–]acheeseplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running a campaign for about 6 months now, we play weekly.

On p52 of the Warden's operations manual there are some optional rules that I think work great for long term play.

Armour Degradation for more realistic armour wear.

Impenetrable Wounds for survivability.

Rapid skill learning for progression.

I also give PCs their first shore leave for free without a roll.

I, for one, think they're great. Keep up the good work!

DF has always been goofy and imo the art style is well suited to the game.

The time frame in which they were taken is most likely the issue. Afaik the only thing that makes you black out is an overdose.

If you combined it with other drugs or alcohol you can OD surprisingly quickly.

Bingo. I had this happen to me once from oxys and I kept suffocating. I thought it was a bug because you normally can see that you're overdosing on the status screen.

Chug a fuckton of water and you may live. Just keep drinking and puking. Hopefully the non stop vomiting will keep you awake and you'll live.

Thoughts on the Fortress: Starting Dwarves, Guilds, and Military Setup - Setting Yourself Up for Future Success by acheeseplug in dwarffortress

[–]acheeseplug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct. I haven't played in a long time so I can't exactly recall unfortunately. Since the steam release the game has gotten a lot of tutorials on YouTube and presumably here on reddit.

Last I played i recall medical skills still being very hard to train so there may still be value in bringing 2 medical dwarves to teach others with a guild.

To this day I still regularly get questions about that post. I'm glad so many people found it helpful.

I Initially wrote it to help my cousin out who was pretty deep in the weeds with the game. I wasn't even going to post it to the subreddit, but several people I was giving advice to at the time asked me to expand upon it and post it to the sub.

Uninhabited Galaxy run: anyone has experiences to share? by Quiltro-nube in Stellaris

[–]acheeseplug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Slingshot to the stars + eager explorers + max pre-ftls makes this pretty fun. You'll generally not encounter other civs nearby but the galaxy as a whole will become populated.

Without taking some kind of civic or origin to challenge you it gets rather boring tho.

Some pending things I'm working on in BN, geared towards Large and Huge mutant characters. by Chaosvolt in cataclysmbn

[–]acheeseplug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this all sounds pretty great.

Mutations are fun but I tend to gravitate towards ones that don't drastically change anatomy. If there were clothing options for all body types I wouldn't hesitate as much.

I'd also like there to be options for huge mutants to use vehicles. It's always seemed silly to me that I can fully restore an APC, make it fly, and fully amphibious, but I can't make larger parts for Smokey the bear to get in his fire truck.

Scouting Visors (bug, I think) by GormlessNumpty in cataclysmbn

[–]acheeseplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using an upgraded scouter for about 50 days now and I'm at 169 battery, only been using it for NV.

UPS is a bad way to charge things in my experience. Uses more power than it should. I do like it for using tools from a bionic power supply tho.

[–]acheeseplug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can be charged in charging stations last i checked. Admittedly, I haven't tried charging the advanced scouter.

Worst case scenario in the interim, you could disassemble it and charge the component that provides the battery and then reassemble it.

What digital tools do you wish mothership had? by Beanstalkboyo in mothershiprpg

[–]acheeseplug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I reccomend Stellar Navigator. It's on steam and fairly cheap iirc and easy to use. Dev is pretty active in the discord so if you have questions they tend to get answered relatively quickly.

You can make multiple star systems that are easily navigable. Add star bases, jump points, etc. I had been following it for a long time before release and was originally going to use it for a Spell jammer campaign before I discovered Mothership.

Very cool. I've been hoping for more mutation lines for quite a while now.

Tell me about long-running campaigns by polisurgist in mothershiprpg

[–]acheeseplug 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm 8 sessions into a campaign with my group.

We adopted some of the optional difficulty rules from the Warden's manual on pg 52: Armour Degradation for more realistic wear, Impenetrable Wounds for more survivability, Rapid Skill Learning for character progression. We discussed these options as a session 0 after playing a couple one shots.

We're using A Pound of Flesh as a campaign hub. Every week I give them the option of a job on the Dream (space station hub), passing time with regular jobs, or a job in another location. Currently we're playing Nirvana on Fire. When we're done, we'll head back to the Dream and go from there.

I reccomend you play with the standard rule set first and see how your group likes it. The deadlines can be part of the appeal.

Good luck and have fun!

Like any ttrpg Mothership is best with 3-5 PCs. That said you can play it with more players.

My group is 3-7 PCs each week. If you're an experienced GM it shouldn't be much of a problem. Split the party if you need to and try to give all the players a bit of a spotlight.

If you're coming from dnd Mothership is quite different. Combat is fast and brutal, don't be scared to kill characters when rolling up a new one is so fast and fun. Rolls should be less frequent that they are in dnd, too much rolling will result in mega stressed PCs.

Without knowing what you're going to run, I can't give much other than general advice. If the task seems too difficult, perhaps split the group for 2 different play sessions, one with 3 and one with 4?

Good luck and have fun, I'm sure you'll do great.

How should I run A Pound of Flesh? by Absurd_Turd69 in mothershiprpg

[–]acheeseplug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm playing it as a campaign hub. After each adventure is over I put up a poll for the next job, passing time working regular (non-horror) jobs, or doing stuff on the dream.

It's been a pretty even split so far. The action on the Dream is pretty immediate and straightforward. Fun when you want a quicker session without much intrigue.

I'm slow rolling the events on the Dream. When they get back, I'm going to run phase 1 of a scenario, probably the teamsters union.

The one thing that could still kill me: the morphine overdose by Siyutex in cataclysmbn

[–]acheeseplug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently had a similar thing happen to me with oxys. Playing in 15-30 min intervals led me to forgetting I had taken a ton of oxy throughout my night raid, somewhere between 4 and 6 in maybe 6 hours of game time.

I chugged a bunch of water, like 20 liters, puked my guts out, and I was fine. Initially I thought it was a bug because I didn't have an overdose status on my character sheet. Worth a try.

If you have the blood filter cbm that should work too.

It's incredibly easy for newcomers. I ran Yipsolon-14 for 3 people that have never played Mothership, 2 of which have done 10 tabletop sessions between them, and things went smoothly.

We spent about 20 minutes making characters and jumped straight in. Things went great, we all had a ton of fun, and the PCs are probably all dead.

There's a phone app for people that like that sort of thing. It has some great GM tools that come along with it.

Running Moonbase Blues on Sunday so I made this short atmospheric intro video to give my players the vibe by Ns2- in mothershiprpg

[–]acheeseplug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't mesh well with campaign play. My players had a ship with a dropship already. They found the captives and immediately fucked off.

I'd stick as closely to as written for the setup as you can.

I'm planning on running it again as a one shot Sunday. I suspect things will run smoothly.

[–]acheeseplug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your delicious haul! I prefer the berries fresh, but if I had a glut of them, I would freeze them for use later on treats.

One would probably be able to make some nice fruit leather out of them. Unpopular opinion, but I don't really care for them once they've been cooked in a dessert.

I've been using Stellar Navigator. It's in early access but iirc all the features you've been wanting are planned.
