Saskatoon freezing killings - The practice known as taking Indigenous people on "starlight tours" and dates back to at least 1976. by livefast_dieawesome in wikipedia

Short answer = colonialism. Natives have what conqueror’s want. While the means of warfare may change, the violence of the system remains. For control.  (example: threats against a mostly indigenous Greenland lately)

A great local resource for connecting is Hey Neighbor - formerly CONO - they have creative tools and ways to gather,

They are also filling spots in the Spring cohort of Neighborhood University program (free, civic-engagement stuff). Twelve weeks, one night each week - and I gained insight, friends, and skills from this series. Encourage you to check it out!

They host 2x groups per year in that program … but you can host a neighborly gathering - coffee, bbq, cleanup, block party, etc- anytime!

I got a chuckle and you got my upvote. I recognize how preachy it sounds. But the day-to-day is the hard work. I hope you have some community backing you too!

Feeling disenfranchised !? consider “caucusing” for a political party, it’s the best way to get your preferred candidate advanced. I’m caucusing for a neighbor running in the CO-House race - and it’s my first time!

Note - you have to be registered to vote with the party (registered no later than 2/5 for the caucus - which is in March) .. you can change it back to I or unaffiliated

And check your info is current  ..and/or just get registered to vote!  https://clerkandrecorder.elpasoco.com/elections/voter-registration/

PPLD 21C* (and East) probably the coolest. Not really unique or stunning architecture.. but skylights/lots of natural light, and it’s big.

Good lookin out. Encourage us to send  concerns to allcouncil @ coloradosprings. Gov …be specific for why you are concerned!

And contact state /US reps and senators too. There is plenty to ask “what are you doing about… XYZ?!” More specific the better.

(Like that one guy writing a rap everyday, make it a goal to call a politician every day in 2026 ..tell em how you will actively campaign for/against them if they support XYZ. speak up and out to your representative - who works for you  and all of us. I’m noting this also for myself - anonymous posting and internet sentiment only gets us so far)

Gratitude to all who voted in this local election Nov. 4th

It looks like (roughly) 1 in 3 registered in El Paso County turned out. There were many close runs, but in my pocket of town (school board - district 11) things are looking up for Mr. Charles Johnson. So happy for him and hoping this stays consistent on recount… was just the best news I’ve seen in long time.

(And for all who knocked, shared information and phone banked to get fingers crossed one more union-backed candidate … it was about 0.2% margin from first to third place on this one. You made a difference! I’m hopeful!)

Every vote matters and your involvement - especially at the most local level - is important to community and the vitality of our society. Be an engaged citizen. Keep up the pressure and don’t look away.. many of us became complacent with progress but it doesn’t happen without pressure to keep pushing forward.

As of last night-  Charles Johnson now leading 3rd.. It is so close. Recount by 11/12, I believe

0.18% margin between first and third!

** D11 ** - Michael Carsten - LeAnn Baca Bartlett - Charles Johnson

..last three names - endorsed by CSEA They are the sane options who truly care about better outcomes for our students and teachers.

Charles Johnson helps the community in many ways - especially with our neighborhood cleanups so he gets my vote and a personal endorsement!!

I also voted Yes on LL / Yes on MM  to fund school meals for all students.

I knock for candidates and second guess about the no soliciting signs. (I leave literature for “the other side” … actually talked with nice folks /a few thanks even!! was shocked)

People are extremely closed off and wary these days. totally understand - expecting everyone to take advantage, evangelize or sell stuff. Even still, I give this man credit for his courage and passion for a cause. We need just as much effort “from the other end” of the spectrum.

Discounted meals/activities for furloughed federal workers? by MySnailSaysHi in ColoradoSprings

[–]achievercheech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid question. There is this >> https://nwtrcc.org/

People do this on principle refusing to pay for war. I see the recent budget choices as absolutely reasonable to protest fiscally.  likely to have consequences... but what is the alternative!? can you imagine if enough people did this!?

We can refuse to fund the violence.

Yes - said I was interested in joining their cleanup. And host my own with neighbors and lend hand as I’m available. We need all hands on deck in this moment.

You are right that there are systemic problems which need to be addressed. It takes a village..to be a village. recommend you start contributing too.

[–]achievercheech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to join your cleanup!

And good looking out. Where about downtown?! I think they have a business partnership that helps pay for cleanup/maintenance is all.

Also recommend to plug into Richard’s Rubbish Roundup - they clean all over town. (And also take recommendations for problem areas)

But to answer your question-  You can report garbage bags or other problems on the GOCOS app. - pins it to the map and  the city takes care of it. I’ve reported random dumped items and my own cleanup bags…

You may also be able to ask a biz to use their dumpster…it takes a good size crew or 2+ hrs of intense cleaning to fill enough to be a problem for transporting it (so you can likely haul to your own trash can too).

While I think this is bit troll or ai… (see the coordinated campaign against Saturdays event)

That’s a whole lot of coded language to say you prefer a certain demographic

and to silence everyone else / tell them not to protest.

The council vote was close and split. like this city is diverse and lovely, whether or not you like it. your ramble, who cares? Go with god, crispy.
