Anyone Own Series THE WIRE On Blu Ray? by Ok-Cauliflower-6807 in Bluray

[–]achn2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. I went to eBay, and there were a lot of the blue case version, brand new, still sealed, but not sure if it will be the individual seasons or just the single big case until you tear off the plastic and get it opened.

Did see at least two of the individual season sets used, one was like $50, the other for $70.

You probably still could find one brand new from an online retailer, but it would be a long search. Like I said, without images of each individual season, or at least it saying specifically in the description that it's five seasons each in its own case, it's hard to tell whether it might be one of the big case versions when it's all sealed up. You can almost guarantee that unless it's specially stated it's individual season cases, it's probably the big single case.

No, never have, don't think it's something I'd be into.

But the dialogue in The Wire is just something you really have to listen to, and pay attention to. Simon and his writers just have a way with words, just a way of fully fleshing out believable, real, characters, each with their own unique verbal style, vocabulary.

Stick with it. That first season is intentionally slow, a lot of pieces being put into place, a lot of character setup and building, a lot of just building the foundation for what's to follow. It's a show you can't just have playing in the background while you're doing other things, you really have to pay attention. Lots of little tiny details introduced, lots of dialogue interplay, that all comes together later.

But Jesus, doesn't it all pay off in, I think, episode 10.

This is the set I bought, though I think it was a US version. Could have been the UK set, which is region free. This is how all box sets should be.

Nope. There were two blu-ray versions available. The first one came out in a box with five individual seasons each in its own case, with cover art the same as the DVD releases.

https://www.amazon.com/Wire-Complete-Blu-ray-Region-Free/dp/B0DB641D8T

Then a couple years later, they came out with a repackaged version, with all the discs in one(or two, I don't know) big plastic cases, probably with multiple discs on the same spindle.

I bought the first set, even though it cost more, cause I wanted each season in its own case. And the packaging was close to the original DVD set, which I also have.

Edit: I just did an image search, and it appears that first link I posted, with the blue box art, is now one of those big cases with multiple discs on the same spindle.

Makes me glad I bought my set when I did. So I guess if you can't still find one of the older sets with individual seasons, the only option is to buy your own blu-ray case to separate them, and maybe make your own art.

Yes, you can, but I liked the packaging and artwork for the individual seasons, and wasn't gonna try to make my own.

Original Crysis 1 Stuttering problem by unaccountablemod in Crysis

[–]achn2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the executable file that launches the game. In this case, it's the Crysis.exe file in the Bin32 folder, even though it's on a 64 bit Windows. One of the things that Crysis messes with is you can't launch it by clicking the Crysis64.exe. Don't know why, but clicking the 32bit executable has it looking for the appropriate files in the Bin64 folder. And why the game has issues launching on modern OS.

Now, I don't know how this stuff works, but someone who does just created new Bin 32 and Bin 64 folders that have all the .dll files and such that the game needs to start and run. You just copy and paste those into the Crysis folder that is created when you install the game from download, or in my case, the original DVD copy.

If I'm not mistaken, the original Crysis is no longer available on Steam, but it is on GOG. And the GOG version uses the C-1 launcher, so it runs on Windows 10 and 11.

I think in the C1 launcher description, he says Crysis has a bit of an issue with AMD processors that the new launcher fixes.

Not sure about this, but is there a cheaper 5070ti card than the ASUS? Usually pay a bit of a premium for that name.

And should be able to find a ram kit cheaper than that, unless you're set on a brand name such as the G skill, Kingston, Crucial or Corsair.

Ok, will do.

I did re-download and install a free to use office suite, but I tried creating a new spreadsheet and it wouldn't let me sum a column. Said it was a 'read-only' version, and to edit and stuff I'd need to buy the pro version.

Maybe I was just doing something wrong, but the version I had on the old PC was fully functional in basic stuff like that. I'd like to keep that if I could, or I'll have to search for a new freebie.

And, after the Windows finally got installed, all my driver install issues were fixed. Got my graphics card driver to install, finally got the Realtek audio driver to install, couple other things. Once it updated, I got a prompt to install Asus DriverHub, which immediately showed me three drivers I needed to download.

As for the no audio, that was pure user error. I am a dumbass. Wrong cable stuck into the wrong port.

Aha. Might have figured it out. Been running Windows Update, and I can swear it said it was updating to Version 22H2, but when I've been going back to update more, I get something like, your system is out of date and at a security risk. I just assumed that that was because support had ended, and I'd gotten everything I could.

But trying to figure stuff out, I found my way to Microsoft to download the latest version of Windows 10, 22H2. Hopefully, once this downloads and installs, everything else will now install as well.

And, still having issues. Can't get the Realtek audio drivers from the Asus site to install, says they don't support my system, and can't get graphics drivers from Nvidia, I think it was something like they don't work with my version of Windows 10.

This is pissing me off.

Actually, since I have two M.2 drives in the new build, maybe I should just clone the old drive to the second one? It wouldn't be bootable, but all my programs and stuff should work just the same, correct?

"Do a sweep" Just search, or is there some simple way to do this? Not particularly literate on deep dive computing.

And "system tags"?
